Small attendance at this match, less than 9000, if I heard properly. That type of gate certainly doesn't help Parma much in the money-making department.
Im assuming the fans look at it they dont want to pay a Uefa Cup ticket price, to see the primavera team play. Even though Parma lowered the prices, but oh well, they've made it this far.
Parma seems happy with the 0-0, even thought it's a home game. Well, this is the same recipe they used to ko Stuttgart.
Typical Parma UEFA Cup performance so far. 0-0 is a good result. Although Italy's UEFA coefficient could really use a Parma goal in the last 5 mins.
right, there is a misconception about the uefa cup. Its not a money maker, save for the small prize money. often teams play their B sides and the opponents are not marquee Euro names...
the announcer said it best at the end of the game "a morfeo or gilardino could have been all the difference" I wonder how they will set up in the return leg.
0-0 Genius. Parma has perfected winning by away goals. Next game will be what 1-1? I'm thinking if CSKA score first it will be over for Parma, the other way around will see CSKA tie at best.
Man, how times change....I remember when the UEFA Cup was badass. Now it's all about the "Champions" League...
yeah the uefa cup was cool back in the day....even the year Liverpool won it was a good tournament. And our last run, when Porto mauled us in the SFs was at least decent... its hard to get excited about this yr when Parma keeps trudging through with boring soccer...not that I blame them under the circumstances.
My sentiments exactly. European competition in general seems to be more about the physical/compact sides then ever before. How else can you explain quality sides like Udinese bowing out soo early?
Sporting atleast make things interesting. The Newcastle 2nd leg was a goalfest after NUFC scored first and Sporting needed 3 to win and scored 4. Today's game saw Sporting on the constant attack which led to some good counters by AZ. The Pinella winner was a great shot from 35 meters.
Parma are in the driver's seat. Hopefully, if they get to the final, Parma will paly exciting football with Gilardino and Morfeo on the field...
Parma's remaining schedule: May 1 - LIVORNO (home) May 5 - at CSKA (UEFA Cup) May 8 - ROMA (home) May 15 - at Juventus May 18 - UEFA Cup Final (potentially) May 22 - SIENA (home) May 29 - at Lecce I hope they'd put their best on the field - it'd be crazy to get to the final and not do so. Plus, I think those players would be angry to not get the chance to shine on what is a pretty big stage. It all depends on how Parma does in their next two matches, both at home. If they can get 6 points, they should stand in pretty good shape heading into the last 3 games. Otherwise, that Siena match four days after the final could loom really large. Of course, they still have to get a result in Moscow. I wouldn't go as far as to say they're in the drivers seat. We'll see.
I wonder if Gilardino and Morfeo or even Bonera will play in Moscow. Parma would be crazy to risk them, I think, given that they're in second to last place now. And the UEFA Cup has become such a passionless competition.
Today Carmignani said that he isn't sure if Gilardino is coming to Moscow. He's going to bring Morfeo though...
Gilardino is definitely going to Moscow, but he will still probably start on the bench. Here is the full travelling squad: Bucci, De Lucia, Frey, Bonera, Bovo, Camara, Cannavaro, Cardone, Contini, Gilardino, Galuppo, Bolano, Bresciano, Dessena, Furlan, Grella, Morfeo, Savi, Simplicio. Although there should be 23 there and I only count 19 .... Anyway, the game is on Setanta Sports in the US and will also be shown on La7. Kickoff is at 12:45 pm Eastern US time.
