I used the app on my phone to buy a spot at the ATT parking deck. Tried using MARTA for the first game and was stunned by how many people packed those trains. Don't want to fool with that again.
Took MARTA to/from the game and loved it. If you aren't bringing the tailgate supplies it's a great way to go to the game. Loved a lot of good talk on the trains.
Paid $40 to park in the Ponce/West Peachtree area at the first match. Short walk through the 3rd Street tunnel to the stadium and the lot next door is also where the supporter's groups tailgate. Unfortunately this week they're going to make you hang out with the Southern Poverty Law Center and try to solicit you for cash.
I lucked out and got on train right after I got to the station. Was home about 30 minutes after the game.
I got caught in that logjam at the top of the stairs. Called my wife, who was visiting her mother in Gwinnett. She drove and picked us up and I was still home faster than if I'd taken MARTA It's a great problem to have, though - sell-outs are amazing.
The southbound train was not so bad. Crowded, but we (just) managed to get on the first one. What a great day - wonderful experience all around.
I try to take MARTA, but last game I parked in home park between 10th and 14th. A bit of a walk, though they were people paying $25 bucks literally right across the street.
I've had no problems with MARTA. Then again I get there hours before to tailgate, go back to the tailgate after the match to grab a few things and hang out and the crowds are gone by then. Don't be in such a hurry and enjoy life As for parking our group snagged the grass lot just south of BD across North Ave as soon as it was available for all 8 games at BD.
That first game I WAS in a hurry to leave because it was late on a Sunday night and I had miles to go. Have to get up at five thirty daily for work.
Centennial Olympic Park. The grass lot is on the corner of COP Drive and North Ave. It's also where they put the away supporters so we get to meet them too.
The northbound MARTA trains are packed after sell outs, but they did add extra trains so if you are patient you might hang around long enough for one that isn't so crowded. Obviously, as the crowds get smaller, there will be fewer people trying to cram themselves onto the trains. But for a $5 round trip, MARTA still beats driving for me.
I've decided to continue to park - for the time being - at the ATT lot. When the Benz opens, and the crowds simmer down, I'll take MARTA. I know you were all curious as to my plans and I apologize about not making them clear earlier. I'm only human . . .
