I'd really like to see Koo and PCY together.

It'd be more appealing to see Park/Ji combo. :D

Once the old-timers are retired, i'd like to see a 4-1-3-2 formation:

I didn't have room to add in pictures for sub spots, & I should've put Hong instead of Kwak

By 2014, PJS will be pretty darn old... maybe I'd like 4-2-3-1 (sorry I dunno how to Photoshop like is so popular here) with a slower Park focusing on defense / field general with the occasional run up.

    PCY
    Son - Koo - LCY
    PJS - Ki
Whatever 4 warm bodies we can find who can play defense less bad than our current.

PCY is very comfortable with his back to goal or timing offside-trap beating runs. Having Koo in the middle would alleviate the need to score.

Anyway, I hope PCY gets back in form soon. So I can blind myself with more horrendous ASM football.

Next time, can you add a bench on the side with the subs? :D

Not a big fan of the lone striker formation unless we don't really expect that striker to score and expect the midfield line to do so.

that's exactly what CGR expects though I think.
its pretty effective since PJS and LCY are very capable of scoring and PJY's movement is so good that he can play the role really well in CGR's formation, dragging defenders sideways to make room for the two.

We have to play a lone striker formation... Our strength is in midfield. Plus, if all the other countries are playing with five in the midfield, we can't afford to give up an extra man in the midfield either. We'll be overrun...

PCY allows us to play long ball a bit with his heading ability and is really best on the counter. He's less ideal for the buildup play but given the quality of our midfielders, it would play to our strengths... provided Koo stays in goal scoring form and Son continues on his development pace.

I didn't like the one top. But Koo restored my faith.

If our KooKi meet our expectations, we can may possibly have 4-1-4-1.

    Assuming PJS heroically return,

    PCY
    PJS-SHM-KJC-LCY
    KSY
    Defense
    EvolvedGorilla

And both SHM and KJC will come up to score goals like you guys mentioned.

I disagree. Ji Dong-won's movement and ability to link with teammates are excellent as well, but I see Park Ju-young as an upgrade version of him with better passing skills. I actually think our build up would improve even further with Park Ju-young in the line up.

Just curious - how in the world does this formation work? We'd get killed if we played this...

How do you rate his speed/accel and finishing ability compared to PJY?

I said in the future. I agree Korea would get run over like that right now. It's a more offensive version of 4-5-1 basically. By then we'd have more stamina to track back to defend but if CKR gets what he wants we should be camping on the other end of the field.

I used to think he was comparatively slow for the KNT's usual standards, but he did tear down the pitch in transition on more than one occasion against Bahrain and Australia. I don't think he's anywhere near as fast as Park Ju-young, though. I think I've said this on here a few times already, but barring Cha Du-ri, Park Ju-young is probably the fastest player we have. Even faster than Lee Chung-yong. I would dare say he's faster than Lee Chun-soo as well.

hmm PJY accelerates very well since he's a striker but I'm not sure that he's faster at top speed than LCY. They're both very fast and in recent years, I haven't seen anything to warrant that PJY is faster than LCS.

It's likely because, at least with Monaco, he rarely gets an opportunity to accelerate except when he beats the offside trap. But how often does that happen? Most teams are aware that's his bread and butter, so to speak.

I think he is faster than Lee Chung-yong, though. He's very fast.

When you get a chance, take a look at him at full speed in the second half during the Uruguay match... He tracked back at full speed on one play, and it reminded me of Euro 04 when Henry tracked back and outran a full speed Rooney barging in on the French goal. Anyway, PJY was jaw-dropping fast (and strong)...

PJY is fast but tends to lose sight of the football sometimes it seems.
I say its his hair, always in his face. In the air no one on the KNT can match him IMO. Also we need his Free Kicks!!

KSY should be a sweeper/defender, He is way too slow to be in the midfield.
I think if Nam Tae Hee develops he would be a clear better bet for DMF.
NTH seems quick and can hold possession.

KSY is playing exactly where he belongs. At first, I thought he could play more of the Zidane/Kaka position. But now I think he's perfect in the Xabi Alonso/Pirlo role. Let's leave him where he is and not mess things up...

As for PJY, let's hope he stops getting injured so damn often! :(

I didn't even bother to ever rewatch the Uruguay match.... I just remember he was excellent in that game.

I still haven't been able to bring myself to re-watch that match either. Considering how emotional it was watching it live, I probably missed out a whole lot on things like that. One thing I do remember is him hitting the post and the Uruguayan keeper kissing it to say 'thank you.' Imagine if that had gone in....sigh.
