Okay, retried the classic neopolitan style last night. Had to buy the prepared pizza crust from Whole Foods, but it was really good. Tomato sauce, fresh basil, fresh mozzarella. I think I could eat this every night.
well forget about the other junk you have eaten. Today I went to Grimaldi's under the Brooklyn Bridge.. group of 6 waited about 10 minutes to get in pizza #1: red pepper, onion, black olives - excellent + Pizza # 2: pepperoni and ham - excellent +++ pizza #3: sausage and red pepper - excellent Great crust, fantastic sauce. its what I imagine pizza tastes like in heaven
Y'know, it really is about the crust and the sauce. The toppings, while important, are secondary. Tonight I had a buffalo chicken sandwich at the Famous Pub and Sports Palace whilst watching something called a "basketball game" between the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.
Today: Spinach and cheese calzone at Fellini's. The little lady had a slice with mushroom and a slice with feta. I never order calzones, but I was feeling a bit crazy today. I like places where you can order pizza by the slice.
Frankies firehouse in Enfield is pretty tasty. Wooster st pizza in manchester, Lena's in Hartford. Not a real pizza place but Spri's in Hartford has a traditional brick oven and make a good traditional italian style pizza
Enfield: Sort of far away, but I'll have to check it out. Wooster St: Is this Randy's Wooster Street? Spri's in Hartford: Where? Lena's in Hartford: Heard of this place, where?
Lena's first and last pizza is on park st. i believe its voted best pizza by the advocate every year.....forgot to add vito's to the list too in hartford and weathersfield on the silas deane. Spri's is at constitution plaza i think on kinsley st off columbus... of course you can't go wrong with Bertucci's either
Dude, we need to get you ITP (inside the perimeter) next time you're in town. Fellini's, Oz, Grant Central, and Baraonda are all worth checking out. I quite like Johnny's too, and there is a new place called Nancy's Chicago Pizza that I would like to check out to see if its real Chicago style.
I like Bertucci, and will add those other places to my list of places to try. I'm going to contact the Courant and see if I can do a column on pizza.
Had pizza at Grant Central ...I think. was a long time ago. I was in Marietta a lot back in 2000 so Vito's was the place.
Randy's wooster st. is opening up a new place in enfield. That make three i think, southington, manchester and now enfield. would interested to read the column. Frankies is an interesting story. Burnt down several times and is now in a new location,,owner was finnally arrested for tax evasion....I think, might have even been insurance fraud. thats what the rumor is,,,anyway the pizza is still good, but not as good as it was before the last fire
I think The Courant needs a pizza column as well. Randy's in Southington was pants. Service was awful, sauce had too much sugar, pepperoni was plastic. I never leave pizza behind, but did that time. Frankie's: I'll have to check this one out.
2003 advocates best pizza in the hartford area: 1st: Luna's in glastonbury, west hartford, plainville, simsbury and cromwell 2nd: Harry's, west hartford 3rd: Lena's first and last, hartford
half marinara, half pesto w/ chicken, pepperoni and onyuuuuun btw, pizza in atlanta is quite underwhelming... the best place closed down a few years back, can't recall the name at the moment - there were 3 or 4 of 'em, the one i frequented was in a roswell rd. strip mall in sandy springs. right next to that insanely curvy road that comes out in marietta near the ice rink
This from a guy who thinks Avril Levigne is hot! Hmmmmm....I work right there and can't recall the place...unless you're thinking of Mellow Mushroom which is in the neighborhood and is quite underwhelming (though I like the whole college/slacker/stoner vibe.) Like usual, I find myself defending the ATL on all fronts. No, this isn't NYC, Chicago or Naples, still there are plenty of fine pizza places in town.
1-avril is smoking, don't punish her because she hides that sweet body 2-nah its not mellow mushroom, it'll come to me at some point 3-i forgot athens pizza, they were damn good too 4-you shouldn't take offense if someone suggests that atlanta is lacking in the pizza/italian food department... i mean what do you expect? it's not like one should go to brooklyn and expect the finest grits, greens, chicken fried steak and cornbread, right?
Weeeeellllll....she's not my cup o' tea, but I don't think she's "disgusting." I'm sure you wouldn't throw her out of bed for eating crackers.
Can you tell I'm not at work today? Here is Atlanta's best pizza of 2003, per Creative Loafing: Critics' Picks Best Pizza New York has its gooey, zesty slices and Chicago has its deep-dish tradition. It seems Atlanta, though, has become a city where you can get a darn good pizza in the style of Naples: thin, crackly crust sized for one person, with a restrained amount of pedigreed toppings. FRITTI started the trend, and they're still unsurpassed. Top variations on our list include the basic margherita with buffalo mozzarella and a sprinkling of basil; caramelized onions, pancetta and red pepper flakes; and slightly aggressive tallegio cheese with apples and pears (sometimes we eat this one for dessert). Start with some of the nibbly fried appetizers that lend the restaurant its name. 309 N. Highland Ave., 404-880-9559. www.frittirestaurant.com
last comment on this i promise: for the record i wouldn't let her anywhere near my bed even if she brought me the gyro meat pizza i just ordered... that qualifies right eddie?
