Been sitting on this thread for a bit. They've played two games so far in their regular regular league so far, first drawing 1-1 against Napoli (La Gumina with the goal), then drawing 0-0 with Lazio. Neither game had anything exciting enough to start the thread.

But today they opened their campaign in the Coppa Italia Primavera against Livorno. After being deadlocked 0-0 at halftime, they came out and won 4-0.

17 year old Vincenzo Plescia had a hat-trick, scoring his first in the 53' and his last in the 90+3'. In the 90+5' Ferdinando Maniscalchi (also 17) converted a penalty to cap off the victory.

As I mentioned in the matchday thread, its interesting to me that Cassini is being placed on the bench for the first team rather than being used in the primavera which had been mentioned before

The empty set is still a set. Indeed perhaps the most real set of all, given its the only one whose existence is axiomatized.

The nightmare is over. After two losses (6-1 against Empoli and 2-1 against Frosinone), the kids have their first win of the season, 4-1 over Latina.

However, they still sit in 10th place out of 14 in their group after 6 games. The top 2 teams after the full 26 game season qualify automatically for a playoff between the best teams in the 3 groups, and 3rd and 4th from each group plus the 2 best 5th place teams (for a total of 8) compete for the remaining two spots.

Palermo advanced in the primavera cup again, this time 1-0 over Frosinone.

Cassini scored the decisive PK in the 87th minute.

Next up in that competition is Bari in the 3rd round (16 teams)

I guess I haven't been paying attention but Cassini also played in the two losses in the regular primavera season a few weeks ago, and scored Palermo's only goal in each.

The quicker he becomes a star striker, the better.

After tying Roma 1-1 last week, Palermo continued their cancelled match against Crotone yesterday, which had made it to the 11th minute before the fog set in.

    They won 4-3.

Crotone went up 1-0, but saw a red card at the end of the first half. The resulting penalty from La Gumina tied it at 1-1. Palermo midfielder Marco Toscano then scored twice in two minutes early in the second half to make it 3-1. Palermo and Crotone then exchanged goals until the end, going 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, with the final Palermo goal coming from Paolo Grillo, a right winger.

Cassini, the main player I'm paying attention to this competition for, wasn't even in the squad.

In any case, Palermo's 2nd win in the last 3 sees them go to 10 points in 8 games, level on points with 8th place.

Palermo beat Bari in the 3rd round of the primavera cup 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals

La Gumina once again with both goals. He seems to be doing really well this season.

The second was a penalty that reduced Bari to 10 men. Down a man, Bari scored just before halftime, and the second half seems to have been a comfortable game of keep away.

Next up for the cup is an away match against Lazio on January 9th

Another win for the kids, 3-0 over Avellino. Goals from Pezella and Cassini in the first half, and an insurance goal from La Gumina 5 minutes from the end.

They now have 5 wins and a draw in their last 6 games in all competitions.

They now sit in 5th place on 13 points, ahead of 6th only by goal difference (+1 vs 0). Only a point behind 4th, but 5 points behind third.

Assuming the second tiebreaker is goals scored, they would be the last team in the playoffs at this point (still 17 games to go though....)

unbeaten streak finally snapped against Virtus Lanciano back on Saturday, losing 2-1.

Cassini put home a rebound to tie the game 1-1, then missed a penalty that would have given Palermo the lead. Lanciano then scored in the 89th minute to win it.

The senior team may be no good, but the kids keep powering on, winning 2-0 over Bari today. Bonfiglio scored both goals, starting up top in place of La Gumina and Cassini who are set to be on the bench tomorrow.

They are now in 6th place, just a point behind 5th place and the all important playoff spots.

Missed a couple of updates here.

Two 1-0 victories in the league over Ternana and Ascoli.

Cassini with the goal in the first, one of the midfielders in the other.

Their next game is Jan 9 when they take on Lazio in the Cup quarterfinals.

A few days late, but the team fell 1-0 to Lazio in the Primavera cup.

Scoreless all the way through the 85th minute, and Palermo gives up the heartbreaking goal. Still, all things considered, not a bad finish in that tournament.

Now on to ensuring a good finish in the league.

2-1 win over Napoli today, La Gumina with both goals.

Palermo took the lead towards the end of the first half, gave up the equalizer, then won it with a penalty kick in the second.

Cassini not in either this or the main match squad this weekend, which is odd. He played a full 90 in the Cup match back on Monday though.

    Double update

Last weekend, the kids got an inkling of revenge over Lazio after being knocked out of the cup by them, beating them 2-1 in the league.

With Cassini out on loan not sure who to be watching now. La Gumina is still there, with 5 goals in 7 matches. Pezzella in the midfield has made the full matchday squad a couple of times, as has Pirrello in defense.

Today, while the full team fought to a draw, the primavera came away with a 2-0 win over Pescara. wins by both teams ahead of them mean Palermo stay 4th, but first place Roma drew, so now sit on 36 points, just 5 points ahead of Palermo (4 points ahead of second place).

Two straight wins for the kids, 2-1 over Empoli last week, and 1-0 over Frosinone today. Those were previously the 3rd and 2nd place teams in the group. Palermo is now up to second, only behind Roma. Top 2 spots are automatic qualifiers for the playoffs.

They have won 9 of their last 10 league games.

La Gumina with the goal today, 19 year old striker Francesco Bonfiglio with both last weekend.

These games have taken on somewhat less importance as many of the important youth players have either been loaned out or are spending time with the full team. La Gumina is the main important player in the team still, along with the defender Pirrello who has spent some time with the first team this season.

In happier news, a couple weeks worth of updates here.

On Feb 20, Palermo beat Latina 4-1 (La Gumina with a brace), and a week later beat Crotone 1-0 to extend their league win streak to 10 straight before finally falling 0-1 to Roma last week.

They however returned to victory today with a 5-0 victory over Avellino, La Gumina scoring a hat trick. The match was moved forward so the team could be ready for the Viareggio Cup which begins monday, an important youth tournament.

Palermo thus remain in second place, but move (at least temporarily) back to just 3 points off Roma, and 7 points ahead of Lazio and the play-in spots.

Despite having the lead three times, including once in extra time, Palermo lost to Inter on penalties today in their first game (quarter finals) of the Primavera championship.

Somewhat tragically, Simone Lo Faso, who scored all three Palermo goals, also ended up being the one Palermo player to miss his penalty (he hit the crossbar) which ended up deciding the match.

The Primavera season has been going on for a while, probably should update this...

They are still managed by Bosi, who had his 15 minutes as manager for the first team last season.

Currently they sit in 12th place in their group after 5 matches, with just 2 points. They have managed just 3 goals, 2 from 19 year old striker Francesco Bonfiglio, and an own goal.

They will enter into the Primavera TIM Cup in the last 16 at the end of November, playing Lazio.

Simone Lo Faso is probably still the player to keep an eye on. He debuted for the Italy U19s in August, and has since made three more appearances with them, including last week. He had a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over the Turkey u-19s last month, but has yet to find the mark for the Rosanero this season (he has played just 180 minutes, 2 90 minute performances, spending most weeks on the bench with the senior side).

He also made his senior debut in the 3rd round Coppa game back at the start of the season, coming on for 20 minutes.
