And the Revs are full of players who have been instructed to foul. Which is really neat...if your idea of neat is watching the Steve Martin & Bill Murray portrayal of the Ultimate Sadist meeting the Ultimate Masochist.
Didja hear the one about the Sadist and the Masochist? The Masochist says, "Beat me!" The Sadist says, "No."
Yes. And on the shot I mentioned, he was pretty much flat-footed before the ball came to him. He just doesn't seem to have a pro-active mindset - he waits for the game to come to him much more than he seems to be trying to make an opportunity. Every team fouls tactically - I don't think the Revs are any different. Did Friedel want them to play physically against LAFC? Almost certainly, and, for the most part, they did it well and it was effective. I don't think there was anything that approached thuggery - and in fact, I thought the Revs' yellows were pretty soft. When Nguyen played for us, he was among the most effective at drawing soft fouls - and that hasn't changed. But, in LA, he's among a few others who do it as well. I'd be surprised if the fouls suffered by LA in this game was out of the norm for them.
Revs fouled 27 times this game. Average fouls suffered for LA th season is 12.9 so more than double. See https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/2...3/TeamStatistics/USA-Major-League-Soccer-2018
Revs also have committed the most fouls in the league this season. This isn't a one-game thing since Friedel took over. They're second in yellow cards, averaging 2.3 per game.
