Well, my stated hopes for this game were "continuing to show some improvement in our midfield understanding and team defensive shape. oh, and not losing this game." And the 2017 Galaxy not only failed to deliver, but did it in a demoralizing way, being completely played off the field by a team that has been dismal for the end of this season. Thanks for nothing boys. This pretty much puts the exclamation point on it.
It ended as it began. The worst, neither result was a surprise. Perhaps the only real surprise was not we would be bad, but just how atrociously bad it was destined to be. Raze it to the ground, while there’s a player or two I wouldn’t begrudge seeing the field next season nor do I mind Sigi returning I’d be fine starting from a blank sheet of paper from Klein on down.
Thank you, Romain, for showing heart and character through this turd of a season. I hope the rest of your teammates show up next season. Nowhere to go but up, right? Bring on LAFC in 2018. G's for life.
It’s not Diops fault - just a language problem. He misunderstood and thought the gk coach has been telling him to get small as possible when facing shots. Seriously I can of at least 7 goals he’s given up by going down way too early and the forward just takes advantage of the path to goal that he’s left wide open. This game would have likely been a 2-1 loss with a decent keeper. Ciani was terrible as well other than the goal. He tried to get cutesy and the chaotic result was their free kick that yielded a goal. Then he was too casual and underhit the ball that ended up with a pk and Diops ejection. Plus so much ball watching in the box, leaving opp wide open. If either of those guys are starters next season then I will lose faith in Sigis player evaluation. But I’m optimistically assuming they won’t be.
He's been told not to be aggressive challenging for balls in the air, to avoid potential concussions. He's never going to be a complete player.
One more thing on Diop. That two footed long jump thing he did for the red card. What the hell was that?
I wonder what our first moves will be. We need to make a lot of changes and the MLS doesn't make it easy to make a lot of changes.
That's a good question. I'm pretty sure I've never seen a keeper do that and I've been watching soccer for several decades.
I couldn't make it through all of that - had to bail. Agree with @ShortyMac , no where to go but up now. A horrible season. Sigi has a rebuilding project, almost worse than an expansion team. I don't expect miracles next year, but would like to see improvement, maybe playoffs if we're very lucky. I'd like soccer to be fun again someday! Will tune into the playoffs, hope they are entertaining.
Cobi tried to sell this as a meaningful game to players who wanted to make an impression on the coach as to why they should be here next year. Well, they certainly did that.
Possibly, but I don't believe any of us were defiant enough to believe the Gs would amount to anything this year. So it's all good!
