Yeah, I think we were just a better version of current Seattle in 2013. Very reliant on Keane and Donovan, who were bottled up pretty effectively come playoffs.
And our Death Star has an omelette bar - a straight up omelette bar! *Maybe that's why the team struggled for the first 15-20 minutes on Sunday. Post-brunch coma.
I like to think of us as the monolith … Full of stars, dragging less evolved lifeforms (e.g., Chicago & New England) kicking and screaming in to the future. Equally feared and awed. Oh and occasionally changing the rules by exerting enough mass on a nearby planetary body to enabling creation of a second sun and fostering a new life form … I don’t know something about LA making up rules and having the first USL team.
Yeah, I think the cup was more nervous/excited. This was more "wow this is really cool and going to be entertaining" excited. When we were knocking on the door in first half before the goal was maybe as into it as I've seen the crowd in a long long time. It was proper spur the team on and ratchet up the intensity kind of stuff. As far as visitors coming back, you hope so. But the fact is (this is a pet theory of mine) that for a decent segment of the American soccer audience, especially ones who follow the EPL only, it's literally just a television show. Actually being at a match has never been part of the reality of watching soccer for them...so this might have been a fun day out, but they've never really thought of soccer as a "go to the game and support your local team" product. But maybe my favorite part yesterday was the city "fans" behind me. Well one fan, one guy in a Chelsea jersey who was obviously new. One asked the other at one point who the "not as skinny white guy, #10" is...that's Mix Diskeruud, national teamer, supposed star for your team. The "knowledgeable" one also spent a decent chunk of the 2nd half explaining how LA spent "by far and away more than any other team in the league," (at which point i would have pulled up a league pay table on my phone if i had any signal) and how the league created a new rule for us to be able to sign Dos Santos.
Maybe he meant spent by far and away more wisely than any other team in the league. 1. Toronto FC $20,401,075 - Struggling to make the playoffs 2 LA Galaxy $18,820,008.08 3 New York City FC $17,347,421.04 - Not going to make the playoffs 4 Orlando City SC $10,577,597 - Not going to make the playoffs 5 Seattle Sounders $9,866,048.04 - Struggling to make the playoffs Meanwhile at the bottom of the spending table … 18 D.C. United $3,851,509 - In the hunt for the Supporters’ Shield 19 FC Dallas $3,669,999.92 - Going to make the playoffs 20 New York Red Bulls $3,437,738 - In the hunt for the Supporters’ Shield
I agree with what you are saying about the faux fans. But the guy I met was a transplanted Brit who missed going to White Hart Lane. So I still have hope for him.
I think this is pretty much dead, but worth pointing out Lleget did that “money” celebration at one point with AJ and they both laughed. Might just be an inside joke.
That was the most complete game I have seen this team play...EVER!! There have been many excellent excellent performances over the years, but none I can recall where every single player had a standout game. And as far as being entertained....off the charts!! That was frickin fun!
Ha ha. I saw that and laughed too. It was clear it that there was some joke there or the celebration was subdued in some way that made it seem he was self-aware of the silliness or something. I thought Lletget had a very good selfless game and i dont recall him killing any counter attacks or getting tunnel vision at all. It was a good atmosphere but very much different from MLS cup. All of the new fans not attached were there to have fun and all of the knowledgable fans were fairly confident we would win. But call me sadistic, but I also kind of enjoy the playoffs which at best can bring a packed crowd sharing an overwhelming feeling of and anxiety, following every play closely, and cheering in a way that ranges from a bit muted to overally emotional.
I’ve been on the Giovinco for MVP this season, but then I saw this Code: GP GS MINS GL AS SHT SOG PKS G/90 SC% SG 24 24 2081 17 12 132 54 3/4 0.74 12.9 RK 17 15 1429 15 07 055 29 4/4 0.94 27.3 Keane’s goals per 90 minutes, shots to shots on goal and goals per shot are remarkable. Gio has been great for TFC and he obviously doesn’t have the supporting case Keane does, but Robbie is just head and shoulders better than Giovinco at this stage of the campaign. I don’t think Robbie can sustain these numbers and even if he does he probably won’t repeat as MVP, but he should.

Thought this would pull more than the Seattle game but 452 is not that bad considering the rest of the season's numbers.
I think I read that the game was aired in about 100 countries. Some of those had to be Spanish language broadcasts I would think. Don't know if ESPN Deportes carried it, but if ESPN had the rights unlikely any other domestic channel was broadcasting.
Anyone make a gif or vine of Leonardo's step in of Villa? That was sick. If my wife hasn't deleted the recording I'll see if I can.
So did the commentator, actually, remember him shouting "Keane!" Only to correct himself when they zoomed in close.
