Motm for me was Gerrard, closet second was Robbie Keane, third was Leonardo.??? He was solid all game, Gerrard was the lone bright spot in the middle third the entire match. Leonardo was the best defender all match....
Yeah another win!!!! Unfortunately SKC just scored three goals to win 4-3 against the Caps. A tie would have been perfect.
To quote Vin diesel from the OG fast and the furious, it don't matter if you win by an inch or a mile. Winning is winning!
A few observations from a Liverpool Fan 1. I know I sound like a broken record, but Gerrard MOTM. His best defensive performance BY FAR in an LA Galaxy shirt. Barely misplaced a pass. 2. What the absolute Larry-Hagman-F**k is with the diving and play acting by Dallas. I've seen less cheating in an La Liga game. Every slight tap they tried to get an LA Galaxy player sent off. In England, they'd need a f**kin police escort off the pitch. Disgusting bunch of cheats. 3. There were moments watching that where I was as frustrated as SG and that's the first time we've seen him berating his team mates. And they deserved it. He was by a distance the only one putting in the effort in that first half (mopping up Juni's multiple mistakes). In the second half, he was free three times on the counter. As good as Lletget is, he was wasteful a few times and solely to blame for LA not extending their lead. 4. Leonardo is a headless chicken who let Perez get away from him far too many times and seems to have gone to the Carragher school of defending but instead blasts every ball into touch even when he has time to control the ball and play out. But, a win is a win as they say.
So Omar. He did some good things during that game, don't get me wrong, and the defense was under a lot of pressure. But wow he made a lot of gaffes too. I'm worried. Entertaining game. What I like about watching the Galaxy right now is that it's nice to kind of count on the ball skills. The boys are good. Good game and effort from Keane and from Gerrard. I thought Juninho was good too. Lletget didn't have a magic goal or assist moment, but he is battling hard on that left side and I love it. High five to Leonardo. Also, Rogers, who did very well against the speedy Dallas wingers.
I have to agree with everything this Liverpool fan has said, spot on with everything mate. Good to have you watching our football.
That cost me a $500 parlay in Laughlin all I needed was a tie or win from the caps smh. Them improving their PPG on us is the final nail in the coffin.
Thanks, 100fyers. I should say though, whilst Leonardo did have a slight headless chicken quality to his game and did blast the ball into touch when he didn't always need to and did lose the flight of the ball with Perez behind him a few times, his performance was a damn sight better than the last two games. Slight amendment. The rest I stick by. Particularly Dallas cheating. That was ridiculous and I still think refs should give straight Reds for simulation designed to get an opponent sent off.
So according to their scoring system, Gerrard was the sixth worst player for LA Galaxy and Juni played better than him
I agree with most of your post. Gerrard's defensive effort was great, and Lletget definitely needs to get that ball off his fee sooner and find his teammates... especially when he has quality like Gerrard to pass to. However, let's take a look at the weaknesses of Gerrard's play as well. He was not anywhere near the best player on the pitch for LA. In the first half I thought he did a good job trying to conserve his energy, but as a result he failed to show for the ball over and over. When Zardes got the ball in wide midfield positions Gerrard was not there to give him an outlet, and it killed our possession. In addition, Gerrard had five turnovers in the midfield in just the first half. The two worst were in the second minute and 42nd minute. Both of them were unforced, and gave the ball directly to Dallas in our half of the field with space to run into. We were actually lucky that neither resulted in a chance against us. In the second half, Gerrard's great recovery run into the penalty area right before the second LA goal (where he took the shot off his chest and then cleared the ball from his butt... a GREAT play) was only necessary because he made a horrible give away in the midfield precipitating the entire sequences. Gerrard is a great player to have on this team, but if I'm honest, I believe we play almost as well with Husidic out there instead. With Lletget, Zardes, Gio and Keane in the attack, and Juninho patroling the midfield, what Gerrard brings isn't nearly as critical to the team as what Keane brings. Let me just finish up by saying, I am glad to have Gerrard on the team. He is definitely a great option to have. I don't want to always seem to be on here talking about his mistakes, but I just feel like some of the over-the-top praise is factually inaccurate. EDIT: In response to the post about the rating of Gerrard... having watched the match that's about where I would put him.
On the downside...Rogers had an outstanding game...if he wasn't jnjured I'd give him motm. And we lost Rogers and Juninho to injury... Hopefully it's just straining in the heat and they will recover...if not...
Actually Juninho stayed on. They thought he was going to come off, but he didn't. Let's just hope that he's available next week.
They should be given days off to recover and or just to receive treatment. Match fitness they don't need but treatment, rest and recovery time they do.
I'm not the only one on this thread who gave Gerrard MOTM and almost everyone commenting has referenced or alluded to him being in the top three. Check back. Also, I actually thought he showed for the ball pretty much every time and only noticed him drop off towards the last five minutes of the first and second half. And part of the second half non-show for the ball was while he was recovering from two lungbusting counter attack runs that came to nothing due to lack of vision on the team mates part. Once when Keane fluffed a chip going for his hattrick when Stevie was free and the Lletget curler that was a lot harder to pull off than the simple pass into the run of Gerrard. And the suggestion that ANY team in the world would play almost as good without Gerrard, let alone LA, is questionable unless his replacement was Zidane. I'm happy to admit that Gerrard isn't quite playing to his full potential yet, but the suggestion that you'd play 'almost as well' with anyone else in the squad is off. To say the least.
Oh, also with regards the above, in the match I watched Gerrard mainly occupied the left side of central midfield. Which bears up if you check that (ridiculous) player ratings graphic. So if Zardes didn't have an outlet, it would be because Juni on the right of central midfield wasn't showing for the ball or was out of position, killing LA's possession and leaving Stevie to mop up for him as he did most of the match.
