TV: Spectrum SportsNet, SpectrumDeportes By a result of 0-0, last night's contest ended in a draw, therefore STILL #MLSTitleBelt Champions, @NERevolution! They will defend the Belt against @LAGalaxy Saturday, July 14 at 7:30 PM ET.— MLS Title Belt (@MLSTitleBelt) July 8, 2018
The whole "MLS Title Belt" thing, just makes me feel like the referee is going to award Zlatan a potentially game-winning penalty in injury time, then hit him with a steel chair before he can take it and blow the final whistle. To add further spice, he should then stand over the prone Zlatan and issue a yellow card for time-wasting.
Mr Fuji managing the monstrous 505lb Sigi Schmid. (this thread may constitute the most interesting things written in relation to a NE Revolution match in quite some time)
It's super silly, but also a bit of cool trivia, tracing all the way back to the very first MLS Game. Basically it traces victories from the very first MLS game -- the winner of that very game (SJ vs. DC) got the belt. So SJ got it first, then defended it in their second game, and so on, through 23 seasons of league action, to this weekend, where NE defend the belt against the Galaxy. https://twitter.com/MLSTitleBelt?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^author And we can have it back in our possession if we win this Saturday!!!
I believe there's also a national team version too. EDIT: Here it is... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unofficial_Football_World_Championships ANOTHER EDIT: And apparently Croatia are current holds it and England play them Wednesday! :O
We've only lost 1 game since early May. That really surprised me to read. It helps that we had a lot of June off though
Just win by any means necessary, we all want the playoffs anyway. Rack up the points and let's get to MLS cup.
Next four games: 7/14 @ NE 7/21 @Phil 7/26 @ LAFC 7/29 Orlando What's a reasonable haul from these games? I think 6 points and up is respectable but since we gave up points to SJ/DC we need 7+ The most winnable game is on very short rest (Thur/Sun)
All of those teams minus LAFC are on a poor run of form and form doesn't matter that much rivalry games. I think 8 points is doable; but 12 would be ideal.
We steamrolled Orlando 4-2 at home in 2016. Interestingly, in that game unretired, Donovan came on and his lax defense lead to them scoring their 2nd goal in garbage time, but otherwise we dominated. We nearly tied them in Orlando last year, but they scored a goal in stoppage time.
In playing New England you will face a team that has been refashioned into a poor man's version of the Blackburn teams that Friedel used to know. The players are now on average taller, stronger, more athletic. They are also less calm in possession and less creative with the ball. By Friedel's design the team plays a far more direct style than the last couple of years, and physical play combined with long passes which bypass the midfield can be expected. The one genuine improvement the current Revs have on the past half decade is the new young keeper, Matt Turner. He is very promising.
If so, that actually helps us, as our midfield is routinely overrun. Think of how teams like Atlanta and Dallas carved us up in the middle of the pitch. Vancouver plays a similar long-ball-bypass-midfield style and we were able to go on the road and hold them scoreless while missing a bunch of starters... At least, that is my optimistic hot take....
I think we're beyond what's a reasonable take from particular fixtures. We need every point we can get if we're going to put ourselves in the playoff berths.
We'd offer you a scouting report in return just to be friendly, but none of us have any idea how this team is going to play.
I'll try: In playing the Galaxy you will face a team that has been refashioned into 11 players placed at various places on the field. The players are now on average different than the players we had before. They are also less calm in possession and less creative with the ball, by a lot. Perhaps by Sigi's design (although we really don't know) the team plays with far less style than the last couple of years, and half-comical play combined with long passes which bypass the midfield and require a moment of brilliance from one of Ibra, Kamara or Alessandrini is usually the only way we can score a goal lately. The one genuine improvement the current Galaxy have on the past half decade is the new bigger Jumbotron TV screen at the stadium. It is very promising. Unfortunately, we won't have the Jumbotron with us on the road, so he will be sorely missed in this game.
Zlatan did not travel with the team. Keeping him off the horrible NE artificial turf (smart). So same lineup as last week except Alessandrini in place of Ibra. #LAGalaxy look to extend their five-match unbeaten streak in @MLS play tonight: https://t.co/5KqwaiYJpU pic.twitter.com/rtIZvH6pia— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) July 14, 2018
Really great build up on that Allesandrini shot. Looks like with Ibra out, Gio is the focus of our attack. Seems like the team is looking to get him the ball.
