Broadcast: Univision, MLS LIVE, facebook.com Even if we had lost the last two and another loss would guarantee Onolfo got fired, I never want to lose to these scum. Round 1 of the Cali Classico.
How on earth did I not know this game was this weekend? I'm on another planet right now between work and home, so totally missed it. Sheez. EDIT: Know why I missed it, was waiting for the annual near 7/4 game at Stanford...
Curt has a chance to win me over. Irrational, but an away win, especially on the back of a spirited performance, against San Jose would show this team has the soul of a Galaxy team.
Can someone explain to me what exactly this graph means? Does it mean the Galaxy are most likely to get 43 or 44 points and therefore miss the playoffs this season?
Yeah, I think, our current form of 1.27ppg is not even good enough to have a 50% chance of getting in the playoffs compared to other point totals. If we can bump our ppg up to 1.55 or 1.6, we'd be very likely to get in.
Exactly. If we continue our current form, we end up at the tallest part of the curve. The lower the curve, the less likely we are to get to that particular point. As the season progresses, the curve will get more and more narrow. The percentages take into consideration the current form of every other team in the Western Conference, too. In other words, if we end the season with 36 points, we won't make the playoffs. The area under the curve gives an accurate visual of what our likely outcomes will be. If you print it out and throw darts at it, darts that land in the blue area hit point totals at the same likelihood as the Galaxy hitting those point totals (as of today).
Just to add to the other explanations - the graph* is predicting two separate things: a) The # of points we will end up with: 43 or 44pts +/- a few points. b) The # of points needed for a certain probability of making the playoffs. Current predictions are that: 36 pts will definitely not make the playoffs, 45 pts has a 50% chance of making playoffs, 53 pts will certainly make the playoffs. If you combine the 2 pieces of information you can figure out that we have less than a 50-50 chance of making the playoffs. I don't think this surprises anyone. More interesting is how the graph changes over time. Has our expected # of points changed? How have the playoff probabilities associated with different point values changed. We are hoping for the 50% cutoff for example to go down. Also as the season goes on the Galaxy's expected points graph will get narrower and narrower. At the same time the 0%, 50%, and 100% cutoff values for making the playoffs will get closer together. *I am curious what goes into making this graph. Is it mostly pts per game? Or does it factor in home vs away, strength of past and upcoming schedules?
Maybe the league should employ the college football BCS system It would definitely determine the best team(s) much better than the current system.
It's a graphical representation of data found here, which is a simulation that plays out the season 265 million times or so (via a weighted virtual coin flip.) The weighting factors in home vs away and opponents' records when simulating results.

And the eternal Univision question: Do I watch the Spanish language feed which I hardly understand or the English language feed with Ramses Sandoval that I don't understand at all.
Yay! I'm finally going to get to see a game on TV. Hopefully, no interruptions. Don't let me down, boys. Keep up the winning ways!
Lets get it on! #LAGalaxy Starting XI: Rowe; Diallo, Steres, Van Damme, Cole; Garcia, João Pedro; Alessandrini, Giovani, Boateng; Zardes #SJvLA pic.twitter.com/l5e1RwjJEE— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) May 28, 2017
Kinda mad that I didn't get my act together to get a ticket, but then again, didn't have anyone to go with me this weekend. Whatever, just win, boys!
Line up as expected, and looks like Pedro and Van Damme are good to go: #LAGalaxy Starting XI: Rowe; Diallo, Steres, Van Damme, Cole; Garcia, João Pedro; Alessandrini, Giovani, Boateng; Zardes #SJvLA pic.twitter.com/l5e1RwjJEE— LA Galaxy (@LAGalaxy) May 28, 2017 Garcia in for an injured Husidic of course, so we should expect to see a bunch of this.
Nooooooooo damn it Ramses Sandoval doing Spanish commentary!!! I'm going to have to watch it in English so I don't go mad.
