Correct spelling actually, but the wrong version of the word. Or perhaps they were describing the sophisticated and discriminating taste of the crest colors?

So I had to go check the Cincinnati logo's symbolism. My God, it's awful, and a real stretch.

My gripe isn't that it's about Park Rangers, it's that yet again that organization is ripping off another footballing name to try to create some sort of authenticity. It's blatantly ripping off Queens Park Rangers, just like "Sporting" is a rip off. It's just cringe-worthy.

They will officially be known here, and elsewhere, as the "Spork Rangers."

That's not really true. The fans have called the KC Wizards/Sporting KC reserve team the Swope Park Rangers since the inception of the MLS reserve league, so this is more a nod to the fans than a Euro-ripoff.

Well, they can call themselves what they like, and we'll sit back and make fun of their silly-arse name.

Perhaps "Mini-Sporks" would fit as well.

    @Elninho is right.

I think Swope Park Rangers is a good name for that team, and the right name for that team.

Spurs Sports & Entertainment announced an USL franchise in San Antonio in 2016, playing at Toyota Field. Scorpions are on their way out to destinations unknown (one internet rumor says LV).

    Scorpions out - USL/Spurs in

In other news, Frank Yallop will coach Arizona United SC.

    Yallop to coach AZ

Haha, Yallop continues to run on his resume. Outside of the fluke 2012 season, Yallop has overseen piss poor Quakes seasons, oversaw piss poor seasons with the Fire, and now gets another shot at AZ. How much do we want to put money on an ugly AZ side this season?

From the NASL press release in the KSAT article: "Ownership and investment interest is at an all-time high, and we expect to be a 20-team league in the near future."

Better concentrate instead on keeping a 12-team league intact there, sport.

Ooooh...100+ degree temperatures, playing on a baseball field, and lots of 0-0 results. What's not to love?

Dude, it has not been pretty the last couple of years.

They've not been that fun to watch. The baseball field last year (Scottsdale) was actually not THAT bad a setup, but they are way overpriced. (Supposedly Scottsdale has other plans for the summer, so they're looking for a place to play.)

The temps have actually been less problematic (for me, at least, but I don't go all the time) than I thought they would be. Once the sun goes down, it's not that bad for people who have been here for a bit and are used to it. At 100, 101, 102 and no direct sunlight, it's okay. (I still think it hurts them a bit, but the fact they've been less-than-robust in terms of quality sales and marketing people probably hurts more.)

The old franchise (Phoenix FC) was a nightmare, but had the best setup at ASU (which they could not afford). I've heard they may have to do a Bonney Field-type situation and throw something together for this year, but, for the life of me, I can't think of a reasonable place they could put it.

It looks like Louisville has this thing about strikers who can finish figured out. They've added Chandler Hoffman to, I assume, pair with Matt Fondy.

    Louisville adds Hoffman

    Must be nice.

I expect us to announce a few new pieces this month. Transfer windows open and after the MLS draft players start settling for something at a lower level (not that I expect any college player not good enough to be drafted by an MLS team to be a savior here).

The new franchise in San Antonio, the Crocketeers, was finally announced.

    upload_2016-1-8_7-26-53.png

That makes 30 teams playing in 2016 (Reno begins play in 2017). So, assuming KC is placed in the west, there are now 15 in each conference. Last year saw a 28 game schedule so this lines up for another 28 games, assuming no inter-conference play.

I've not seen a schedule-release date, but it came out Feb. 2nd last year.

    Edit: the Crocketteers.

Crocketters are the supporter group for the old Scorps team, and presumably, the new USL team.

The new SA team doesn't have a name yet

Sorry, but you forgot to account for Austin's year off (2016) due to inadequate facility.

    29 teams in 2016.

Also, they've said it would be a 30 game regular season.

Yeah, they didn't announce much yesterday, did they? I'm confused by the whole thing.

I'm sure the stadium maintenance folks are doing a Chinese fire drill with the seats, to get rid of the Scorpions name spelled out

That's what I don't get. The Scorpions had a great name in the community, and a terrific brand within the US Soccer Pyramid.

Why give all that away? It's not like the NASL is ever going to do anything with it.

With the addition of the Swope Park Rangers, Oklahoma City will affiliate with Dallas in 2016.

Austin's leave-of-absence has the Pittsburgh Riverhounds affiliating with the Columbus. Pittsburgh had no affiliate in 2015.
