In the NFL, players come out of college ready to start, at least a lot of them. In MLS, almost no players in the “super draft” (very loose use of the word super here) most players are not ready to start in MLS, many need a season or three of work, and even then, most drafted players don’t make an MLS roster. So our new rookie defender is not likely to lead us to glory. He could well be an improvement over Lopez, but that’s not saying a lot. And we still need more central defenders, and a new CAM, and probably a new left-wing. Maybe Fiero will be really improved and can take that spot? Go Quakes!! Fisher OUT!! - Mark
Which of the two QBs in the upcoming Super Bowl came out ready to start? Answer: neither of them. They both sat their rookie years. So, too, did Aaron Rodgers. So, too, might Josh Allen have sat as a rookie, but he was behind Nathan Peterman, so that plan lasted only into the second half of the first game. Our Stanford captain defender (sorry, I've yet to memorize his name) is one of only a few defenders the Quakes can call upon, for better or worse. He's likely therefore to be our Josh Allen, and if he's even a tenth the player Allen is, we'll be more than fine.
Not to mention Gino Torretta, Jason White, Troy Smith and Tim Tebow..... I think Torretta was the only one who made a career out of being a backup from 1992-1997...
Sorry, haven’t followed pointyball since the ‘90s, so I don’t get most of those references. But most college players are not ready to start in MLS. A few, and defenders more than attackers, so maybe Tanner Beason gets some minutes for us. I’d love to see him be better than Kashia out of the gate, but that’s not likely. Go Quakes!! . . . Simpson won the 1968 Heisman Trophy . . . It was in his possession until it was auctioned off in 1999. I wonder if Zlatan now regrets leaving MLS, where he could dominate most of his much smaller opponents.
I wonder if the Galaxy regrets Zlatan leaving MLS, now that they have another Mexican star to market.
ExtraTime and all the MLS media outlets are trying so hard to devalue Zlatan and say that Chicharito will be the biggest second coming since Beckham—- that just tells me that none of them really believes it. They’re just trying to convince the fans. Actually, the real indicator should be what is getting written in the Mexican media. What are they writing about Chicharito? Are they saying MEX fans are flocking to MLS? Or are they writing that MLS = Mexican Retirement League? Or what?
Ibrahimović is a world renowned player, on the level of Messi and Ronaldo. Chicharito isn't anywhere close. Maybe Hernandez may bring in more local Mexican -Americans or Mexican born fans but Zlatan was/is a household name and a much better all around forward. Chicharito could potentially play another 5 years whereas Ibrahimović as maybe 1 more season so it could be a better move in the long run.
Totally agree. They’re gaslighting us. Truth is MLS is taking a small step backwards this year in terms of big players. Probably due to the uncertainty around the CBA. If there is ever a season to take a break from MLS this would be it. On the other hand, smaller teams have an opportunity to really go for it as the bigger teams are standing still or stepping back. I think that explains SKC and a few other teams big spending spree. Of course the quakes did practically nothing this year.
You're saying that the MEX media is gaslighting MLS or Chicharito or what? I haven't tried to research their take on the signing... Google translate can take a lot of time...
