    @TyffaneeSue

Suker is reduced to being an Uber driver? What happened to his café in Palo Alto? Wiki says he left because "strange people kept coming into the bar".

You would think the Quakes would give him a job....

The cafe did not last long, but that is typical University Ave -- the restaurant scene is a revolving door. Of course strange people kept coming in! It's Palo Alto.

Even though I have a great deal of sympathy for him if what he said was true about having all his assets seized by the Turkish government, no, I don't think the Quakes would give him a job.......unless he has some skill in an area that would benefit the club.

Why wouldn't he get a coaching job, I wonder? Though probably driving an Uber is less stressful.

I don't know why the Quakes would be particularly inclined to give him a job. I mean, nice guy, knows soccer, but that describes all of us too!

Maybe he just doesn't want to be a soccer coach?

I agree most superstars become the worst coaches. With Suker’s name of being one of the worlds top players, soccer knowledge and connections, I’m sure someone somewhere would give him some kind of job though. Many former players become agents. He sounds like he is more afraid of being killed and doesn’t want to be in the public spotlight.

I never said he would be a bad coach, I just said maybe he doesn't want to be one. And I don't see the point of having the Quakes hire someone who (as far as we know) has no coaching experience, nor has expressed any desire to coach.

I was thinking of coaching kids, but that would expose him to even more strange people.

Tried texting him but no response.

Nothing ever closes; they just morph. 535 Bryant was a French restaurant called Bon Vivant, then it was briefly Tuts (his place) and now it's a Mediterranean place called Tuba.

If John Doyle could milk being a GM of the Quakes and Mustangs Director in Danville, Suker with his name could easily get a job coaching youth soccer......

From what I gathered, he was afraid for his life. What I'm wondering if business was good or not?

Who from Turkey will come into Palo Alto and try to do him harm? Makes no sense. He should have called the authorities if that were the case.

How much time/energy does the government want to spend on former soccer stars?

There's a pattern of this. Check out the treatment of the basketball star Enes Kanter.

Suker was a big name not only in Europe but the entire world. If George Weah can become president of Liberia , Suker could one day also go into politics and win off of his name alone. That could be a reason why Turkish president , Erdoğan wants him out.

Bulgaria had Stoichkov, Romania Hagi and Turkey was both GK Rustu & Hakan Suker. When any one fan thinks of those nations in terms of soccer, those names come to mind.

Even Don Garber in his quest to make MLS recognizable , should think about hiring him I n some capacity.

Unlike Enes Kanter, he's not playing for a big name team and still actively criticizing the government. This article is a little more enlightening: https://www.nairaland.com/5630343/hakan-sukur-football-legend-destroyed

Sukur also learned that, when a Turkish student in America took a selfie with him, he was imprisoned for 14 months.

Now, that's creepy...though we don't know what else the student was up to.

Um, Erdoğan (extra points for @falvo for getting the curve over the g) is a fascist jerk. Don’t put anything past him.

Back to our discussion of “Other Teams Results.” The upcoming CCL games pitting MLS clubs against Mexican and Central American teams is a great opportunity to scout other nations. If players for team X do well against what is supposed to be “top MLS” clubs, then snagging one or more of their players who show well in that competition would be a good idea, don’t you think?

In any case, I’m looking forward to watching Saprissa slag L’impact. I like Montréal as a city, but I dig Saprissa as a team. (And I think that at least some of their guys would fit our scheme.)

    Go Quakes!!
    Fisher OUT!!
    F@#$ Erdoğan!!

Saw this come up today on my Facebook page....

English National Team for the Spain 1982 World Cup!

They were eliminated in the second round after 5 games and only had 1 goal scored against their defense. Wat a great side!

i haven't been paying any attention to the 49ers or the NFL. In 25 words or less, how did the Niners make it into the Superbowl this season?

Oh, and how do you think this will affect the Quakes' popularity this season, if at all?

Mainly they got there by winning a lot of games.
