I wasn't sure quite where to put this, but it occurred to me, as I was cleaning a tile floor, that the rally flag from the August game at the Stub had come in awfully handy.
Downtown... walking or biking distance to the Train Station and the Rail Yard where I'll be attending Republic games when not attending 'Quakes games

Here is soccer America’s list of the leagues top ten centerbacks... I didn’t think Victor should have merited the #9 spot but I guess it’s a nice note to retire on... SA Top 10: Centerbacks (Right) 1. Ike Opara (Sporting KC) 2. Kendall Waston (Vancouver) 3. Drew Moor (Toronto FC) 4. Adolfo Machado (Houston) 5. Johan Kappelhof (Chicago) 6. Jack Elliott (Philadelphia) 7. Roman Torres (Seattle) 8. Victor Cabrera (Montreal) 9. Victor Bernardez (San Jose) 10. Michael Parkhurst (Atlanta United)
Ike was always injured during his time here. Even had he stayed, he will have never became defender of the year. If anything , Opara probably turned into a better player by switching clubs like Morrow and Beita did.
Yeah and in 2012 up until 2013, the team also had a formidable forward line and they all relieved pressure off the defense.Morrow was benched in his last year and both he and Beita were gone within a season or so from their all star and even national team appearances. I reiterate neither player had a chance of succeeding in San Jose. If anything had they ended up staying with those lower talented teams, they will have failed miserably like everyone else. I doubt either player would have turned around the Quakes fortunes from 2014 onward.
I think you’re missing the point, Falvo. What a lot of us are saying is NOT that having Beita and Morrow would have magically made 2014-17 a repeat of 2012. Rather, we are saying that DOYLE and Co’s Cavalier handling of these two individuals is exhibit A in the entire, giant river of poor decisions, unintelligent player assessments, clueless signings and other aspects of simply bad management that marked the Quakes’ technical staff from 2008 until this last year. Given that we’re STILL paying for these mistakes (see Dawkins) I think the jury’s rendered its verdict that Doyle was perhaps the worst GM in MLS during his tenure, and the fact that he remained on the job for nine years is a prima facile indictment of our owners’ interest - or rather lack of interest - in the quality of the product on the field that they provided us, the fans.
I don't think it was solely Doyle's decision. I honestly believe their departure came from the higher ups as the management didn't want to pay either player what they wanted. Just like every other player who remained in San Jose from 2014 -2017, no one will have been an all star or won anything , for that matter. They should both thank the Lord they are gone from San Jose as they have played in two consecutive MLS Cups and won one. In the case or Morrow, he has stated publicly that he relishes being gone from the Quakes.
