I never thought I'd live to see the day when England won a world title!

Anyone watch the England-Scotland World Cup qualifier? Pretty hum drum game until the later stages. England took a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute, then Scotland's Leigh Griffiths curled in two sublime free kicks in the 87th and 90th minutes. Scotland were poised to beat England for the first time since 1999, only for Harry Kane to equalize in the 93rd minute to break Scottish hearts.

I have to say, the idea of Didier Drogba playing for Phoenix at that level of soccer is amusing. I mean, were I a player, I'm sure I'd be playing for as long as someone was willing to pay me for it as well, and I know there's more in it for him than simply being a player for them. Still, it's just kind of a funny mental image to see a former world elite player hanging around in Phoenix.

It will be an easy transition for him into one of Phoenix's retirement communities.:p

Yeah, I can't really figure it out. Does he just really like hot weather?

The article also states he is a part owner and they will be pitching to move up to MLS. Interesting stuff.

I'm sure the ownership part of it is the real reason why he's there, since he certainly won't be of playing age if and when Phoenix attempts to join MLS. It's nice to see these guys come to the league and actually feel invested in it to the point where they are willing to stick around to work in US soccer in other capacities. Speaks to the fact that the US is still kind of a sleeping giant when it comes to soccer.

You know , I remember playing with and against many older star NASL players in the peninsula soccer league during the late 80's & early 90's. I even remember playing a half against Portuguese star Eusebio once. Some were paid but many weren't. They just did it for the love of playing the game.

I played with Preki at off the wall when the Gizzlies practiced there... he hasn't come back and invested yet though (but I guess coaching Sac is close).

Only that Preki was 42 not 38/39 when he retired. From what I recall, he was also an MLS MVP at 40 years of age.

Such a shame about Cyle Larin and his DUI arrest. I wonder if that increases or deters interest in him from Europe.
    This video is kinda sad

Five years later and Alan Gordon still has the Goonie ball magic. Unreal. A bad team that may finish ahead of Kinnear because they have more heart

AS Roma's first Mexican player ever Héctor Moreno ties it up with a header off a corner. Portugal -Mexico ends 2–2 in the first round of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup!

NO, Cyle Larin is an idiot! He makes more than enough to be able to afford a cab. He should never drive after drinking. I sure don't. And what was he doing getting hammered in season?! It's one thing to have a beer or three, but holy crap! .182? or .179? That's completely trashed!

Also, how did the bar he was in not take his keys?

This isn't sad, it's engaging in very dangerous behavior that he ought to know better than to engage in. He could have gotten killed. The woman with him could have gotten killed. He could have killed innocent drivers or pedestrians.

I'm all for partying and having a good time. But if you know you're going drinking you walk or take a cab, or get a designated driver.

Also, it will be interesting to see how the legue deals with this! He's a star player, is he going to get some slack? Or will they throw the book at him?

    Go Quakes!!

    - Mark
