Not surprised; RSL beasting. Gotta hope for a tie or loss in Portland, either of which are likelier than NE pulling this one out ever were. And of course, we have to handle biz on this road trip.

So we have to win out realistically and even then need some help?

It would be nice to win on Sunday so we can go to the last home game with just a little hope in our hearts.

That said, anyone else think MLS needs to revisit their schedule? You fight so hard to make the playoffs and then you play your last game on a Sunday and then have a playoff game 3-4 days later and then if you win that you have a home play off game on less then 3 days notice that following weekend. After a loooooooong season, the playoffs are likely over within a week and a half (probably). That always bugs me. Now that the league controls so many stadiums, I really wish they'd play a few more mid week matches during the season so that the regular season could end before this mid October international break. Then start the play offs right after that break is over. That way there is a separation between the two and there is a bit more time to sell tickets and get excited.

We have to win out, period. No scenario left where we make the playoffs with 4 points or less from our last 2 games. Then we need RSL not to win their last game (tie is okay) or Portland to lose both games.

SkyDog can tell you what percentage of a chance that gives us....

    :)

Good news is that RSL plays Portland this Sunday. So as long as we win this weekend, then we will start the final game at home vs. Houston with the playoffs still in the running.

But first we have to win in MIN.

    We must win both games.

A win at Minnesota would mean it goes to the final game regardless. If RSL wins, Portland are even on points, would be even on wins and have a catchable GD. We have the most goals scored.

This is RSL's last game, so a loss to Portland would see them finish with 49 pts. Wins are the first tie-breaker though and we have 2 less, so we need to win both games no matter what.

However, RSL losing is the better scenario as 2 wins would see us qualify. Otherwise, it stays in Portland's hands and a point from their last game would see them qualify.

Don't get me wrong, Rooney has certainly been great for them, but DC's new stadium meant that Rooney's arrival also aligned with 16 of their final 19 games being played at home. That's also a huge part (it also means Rooney hasn't really endured the full rigors of a hectic MLS travel schedule).

Ok, our odds down to 16% but that is primarily based on the their prediction that we won't win both our remaining games. If we do though the sportsclubstats site puts us at 88% to make the postseason.

The reasons we look good with two wins is a) RSL isn't expected to win at Portland (76% chance they will lose or tie according to fivethirtyeight.com) and b) even if RSL does beat Portland we still have a heartbeat - we make the playoffs if Portland loses it's last game at Dallas. In the latter case we tie them on points and wins but will have a superior goal differential.

Bottom line: We are out if we don't win out. And very likely in if we do.

Neither GD nor goals scored will be an issue. If we catch Portland on points we will pass them on GD.

DC is out. If LAFC and Seattle get dumped out too I’ll consider the pose season a success

Gutsy win by RSL, props to them. In a way I'm glad we didn't make it to the playoffs because I'm pretty sure we'd have lost this game. RSL ran and defended their asses off, something we couldn't have done. Oh, and F*CK LAFC and their fans, they truly are Chivas in disguise...

Yes a lot of the fans were Neanderthals doing their best to spoil the experience. But It was a great game on the field. Both teams played their hearts out, something I’ve missed this season. And Kreilech’s 2nd goal was a thing of beauty. All credit to Petke and RSL for getting this difficult road win.

Kreilech heard the fans saying how disappointed they were to not have Zlatan so he decided to step up and play the role of Zlatan in this game.....

I picked both LAFC & DCU to advance in my playoff bracket...but I'm glad they both lost! I had both losing in the next round anyway so doesn't kill my bracket. Kreilech's Karate Kid Krane Kick goal was sweet!

    Galaxy won last night.

No one can catch our 5 titles.

    LAFC lost in embarrassing fashion.

    I'm satisfied.

Watching the LAFC/RSL game I was caught a bit off guard every time RSL scored. The goals were soooo against the run of play and all were scored in the most unlikely of fashions. If you freeze framed each shot at the moment it was taken you would have thought "no way that's going in!". Hell, one was a mis-hit cross that went right into an LAFC players head and then into the corner of the net.
Anyway I just now glanced at the stat sheet to see if the RSL outcome was as unlikely as it seemed when watching live. So here are the stats for the 100+ minute game. Wowza...

    RSL:
    Shots total: 4
    Shots on goal: 2
    Shots off target: 2
    Shots blocked: 1
    Goals scored: 3

    LAFC:
    Shots total: 20
    Shots on goal: 8
    Shots off target: 6
    Shots blocked: 6
    Goals scored: 2

All they needed to win was score 1.5 goals per shot on goal! Now that's efficiency!*

    *
Efficiency. Luck. What the diff, right?
