Well, Seattle did have an excuse: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...chivas-field-ahead-ccl-clash-seattle-sounders Sounders bitching about the playing field? Hubris? Irony? Apparently they also invented complaining about field conditions..
Kudos to TFC for a well played game last night, and a decent scoreline. No away goal would have been better, but they gave themselves a fighting chance. As evidenced by Club America's whining following the game.
Remember these are the same fans who complained about the away-goal rule when they got knocked out by it and then lauded it when they went thru. Everything in their world is seen thru puke green glasses (which must look really weird compared to the real world).
1-0 isn't a bad result for New York, but Collin getting the red is. They have a good chance to go through, but they cannot let Chivas scores.
Don't know where to put it, so will put it here: https://sports.yahoo.com/mls-apos-turf-problem-league-090019038.html
Looking forward to watching the ATL - LAFC game. Two teams with great midfields and scorers and mediocre defenses. Maybe another 4-3 shootout?
It’s looking that way so far... And finally a good VAR moment that fixes a bad call that would have ruined the game...
I was wrong about Atlanta. Their defense -- despite (or maybe because of) missing some starters -- was absolutely superb. When ATL turned the ball over they always had #'s back and their back line and midfield stayed connected and compact for 97 minutes. This meant very little space for Vela, Rossi, Urena, etc. to work. Take some notes Sigi - defensively Atlanta did all the things we need to be doing, LAFC were, as expected, good in midfield and had plenty of possession in Atlanta's final third. But they just couldn't break through the tight D. And defensively LAFC got spread out and pulled to one side repeatedly and allowed unmarked weak-side players to come into the box and score. Twice. Add in two ATL pks and a nice garbage time goal and it all added up to an ugly ass whippin'. Broke my heart.
And doesn’t Atlanta still have some stud DP who isn’t available to play yet? If they can stay healthy they look like a contender.
Just an Argentinian teen who comes in with the highest transfer fee in MLS history (and 2nd place wasn't even close).
True, but then both Uncle Ted and the VAR blew it on the Cimon elbow. So maybe the first one was a case of even blind squirrels find the occasional nut.
Actually I don't agree. I listened to Moreno's very, very firm opinion on this play and I understand how he saw it that way because he was focused entirely on Ciman and his elbow. But if you watch Martinez in the replay instead you will see that he totally ignores the flight of the ball; instead his eyes are 100% laser focused on Ciman. Just before he gets to Ciman he drops down, bending his knees so that Ciman's elbow catches him in the head. I know this sounds like some lame conspiracy theory but I watched the DVR'd replay a few times. Yes Cimon was pushing off with his elbow to gain space but his elbow wasn't raised up high at all. Normally that would contact a player at chest level and is pretty standard when fighting for a header. Ciman never expected to contact anyones head - Martinez was throwing a trap for him. Anyway that's my (probably very minority) opinion, in any case.
Funny that you say this because during last week's match, I kept thinking how fun it would be to have both Zlatan and Gordo up top with Becks swinging in crosses and LD threading through passes.
Alright. I feel I have lost my mind. But I'm watching RSL/Vancouver. Vancouver's away uniforms are THE BOMB. I love the dusky blue color. I'm in love. Best uniforms since our third uni (fan-designed) with the black main color and multi colored accents.
Agree with @Paul Berry - addition by subtraction. He was a liability all game, and a card waiting to happen for stupid decisions. Think NY actually is better off with him gone. They also have a serious chance. I have to DVR the games tomorrow which I'm sad about. Regardless of what happens, they should be high intensity and great.
Still can't believe NY didn't win that CCL game this morning. 52 clearances. 52!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So disappointing because this could (and should) have been an all MLS final. Toronto should be the heavy favorites in the final. I'm rooting for them! They've approached their games with professionalism and aplomb. Great game against Club America.
Kinda ironic that the two NT players that bombed qualification could possibly be the first to win CCL for MLS. It's a big milestone for the league, that most of the rubes that hate on them won't care about. Still, I want the Galaxy to be the first team that does this. Not exactly rooting against TFC, but can't say I'm rooting for them. Speaking of, it would be nice to be back in CCL this season. We should be in it every season.
