If you want the best out of strootman, you need to play him with a defensive minded midfielder who can break down play and dictate play from the back. Unfortunately NT don't have either Di Rossi or Nainggalon calibre of players and also don't think clasie is any where near to these players.strootman thrives at Roma jus because of them as they complement each other all around. Compared this to in NT,Klaassen and Wijnaldum are end up putting all the workload on him.what do you expect will happen. I have seen enough of Nathan Ake and I think he is the best option for that DM. He has played at LB,LCB,Wing back and I don't think he will be any different at DM. Dont think he should play there to prove himself, which he is finding it hard to do.he is the type if player whom danny should have taken the risk with, but unforuntely as usually he always opted for Ajax players in most case scenarios. Van Ginkel- Strootman Ake
Which team is better Roma or the Dutch National Team? Roma can be extremely inconsistent as well. What do you all think?
Under Hiddink/Blind the Dutch NT is not inconsistent at all, we are very consistantly truely terrible.
Impossible to compare. Club squads have far more synergy so should be a stronger collective. Since Euro 2012 Van Marwijk and his successors have not been able to built a half decent midfield with the available players. Van Gaal worked around the problem with a counter attacking 5-3-2, but it was just a temporary fix.
Things are so bad that no US cable channel or stream will carry today's match. It didn't use to be this way!!
Apparently the starting line-up is this: Aside from missing Robben and the imbalance in midfield I'm a big fan of playing Memphis at striker. I've always thought that would be his best position. I guess we'll see.
I have a good stream. My comment was more about how far the Dutch have fallen. Usually a match like this would be on Fox.
The ball movement has been all that bad. Klaassen is playing way above his club level. Memphis in the middle is a decent strategy. Hoedt at fault on both cheap goals (is this his first match for the NT??). Good play from Martins Indi out of position on the right side.
Even though the Dutch are down at the half, I thought that was a pretty positive 45 minutes. They actually tried attacking for once and had some decent chances. Hoedt basically gifted the Italians both goals. Lens is awful and just hate watching him suit up for the Dutch. Memphis is still so intriguing. So much skill
Memphis is destined to be a striker. All of his best attributes fit so well there, IMO. Not that he will be bad on the wing but for me he would really fully realize his potential as a striker.
Aside from the fact we're down a goal I thought this was much better. Is there a way we can keep Grim if they continue playing like this?? We'll even get him on the cheap as I dont think he'll ask for too much $$$
This is the first time I've watched a game in a long time and actually smiled Some beautiful football
If he plays smart, he can be a great asset. Add him to Van Dijk, Karsdorp, De Vrij, Blind, Janmaat, etc and the back line looks pretty good moving forward. They look so much better today attacking as well. This team just needs a good manager and they will have success. It is one of the weakest teams the Dutch has had in terms of talent, but they should still be much better than their results. If they played like this against Bulgaria, it would have been a win
Things I learned from today's match: Wijnaldum and Klaassen cannot be on the field at the same time Martins Indi is back in consideration as a starter Memphis has to be considered as a #9 Snjeider is still capable of magic but is now only a substitute Tete needs to be quicker in decisionmaking Blind is probably the default LB Robben is still the best Oranje player Fred Grim is a better trainer than Danny Blind Fabio Capello and Louis van Gaal are very good friends It will take a miracle for this team to qualify for the WC
Just for Mr. S Player Ratings Zoet (7.5) undone by Hoedt on both goals still came up with a very good game Blind (6.5) - was playing very well until he totally lost his man and was lucky that Zoet was there Hoedt (4.5) - decent enough 2nd half but woeful performance earlier Martins Indi (8) - absolute rock on defense and MOTM for the Dutch Tete (5.5) - weak cross when it should have been stronger and looks all around the field before deciding to pass (of course he never gets a match at Ajax these days and isn't match ready) Strootman (6) - decent but not my choice for a long term solution at this position Klaassen (6.5) - much better on the ball than he ever is at Ajax Wijnaldum (4.5) - just totally out of position compared to where he plays at LIverpool; either Klaassen plays or Wijanldum, not both Promes (5.5) - very active but produced little Memphis (7) - really strong and caused a lot of trouble for the Italian defenders; perhaps he is the best we have at #9 these days Lens (5.5) - he's not Arjen Robben Vilhena (6) - I was thinking he wasn't playing too well and then he came up with some good defensive plays and had a couple of nice passes Snjeider (6) - forced Donnarumma (who would be the Italy #1 except for Buffon) to make two really good saves Veirgever (5.5) - good on the ball in a very brief appearance Toornstra (NR) - don't think he had a touch Berghuis (NR) - if he has to play it points out the dearth of talent for the NT These are just rough ratings so don't rag on me!!!
