Cillessen looked good.

van de Beek will one day be a Dutch hero. So much passion, drive and energy. That's on top of his obvious skill and mind for the game. I really think in this set up a midfield 3 of de Jong, van de Beek and Wijnaldum (Eiting in the future perhaps) can be really strong. Guys like Propper, van Ginkel, Strootman and co. can deputize for now before being replaced by a younger crop.

Defensively we have so many options, and even more coming along. van Dijk, de Ligt, de Vrij, Ake, Fosu-Mensah and Riedewald are all very solid right now (some more than others) then you have guys like Schuurs, Pierie, Obispo, Geertruida and others on the way. When Karsdorp is healthy he'll fit right in to the 3 at the back which gives him licence to go forward, and guys like Vilhena, Janmaat and Willems among others are good options (plus Castillo and Bakker on the way). Up front will be the real question as to whether we can develop the kind of players needed to dominate that area. There's a lot of promise among Redan, Kluivert and Bergwijn, but Kluivert especially is much more of a winger (I think Redan and Bergwijn would do really well with this system though).

I'm excited again after watching this display.

 

Are you kidding me, Cillessen had a couple of GREAT saves!!!!

 

Dost should be dropped from the 1st team (except as a reserve).
So should Vincent Janssen.

Keep this same team and leave Depay up front along with perhaps Babel or maybe someone else.

Keep the midfield the same, and of course the defense should OBVIOUSLY be kept the same, except for maybe Aké who I thought was brilliant!!!!

My Three Takeaways:

1. The youth revolution is for real.
De Ligt continued his top form (easily the best player on field again today). Vd Beek answered the bell with an assist and excellent block in front of his own goal. Vilhena was solid despite playing in an unfamiliar position, and injected extra bites to the game (I LOVED his holding his ground in the tussle versus C. Ronaldo in the opening minute)... unlucky not to assist on Depay's header. Ake was confident, and a legit option for a back three. Depay was great all around. Kluivert showed speed.

2. Counter-attack is the name of the game.
The team looked a bit clueless when they were in possession, but had really nice burst when they were in counter-attack mode. Creativity was in display with quick passing and nice turns. Get used to it, people. The days when the Dutch hoarded an 80+% possession (70% of it back- and side-passes ) will long be gone. I wouldn't mind seeing a tight, compact defensive team ready to counter when opportunity presented himself... if that's all it takes to generate a goal or two.

3. Cillessen need to go.... to a different club.
He's too good to warm the bench at Barca. He needs to get loaned out or transfer to a club where he's challenged. His reflex is top notch and he's very comfortable with both feet.

 

I almost negged you until I saw what you wrote on Cillessen, and then I agreed. Jasper needs top find another team, he is too good for 2nd place Barca

 

Looked at it, it sucks donkey balls.

Our lineup is even worse

 

Its pretty obvious Depay should be our NT striker, I dont care if he's not a striker at his club, if he keeps knocking them in for Oranje its a no-brainer that he should start for us at top.....DUH!!

 

I had a feeling before this game, what if our best teams could never beat Portugal in the past, but suddenly our worst team ever beats the crap out of them. How funny would that be.......LOL???!!

And thats exactly what happened

 

Oh jeezus no!! You are a very good player with tons of potential, but you are no Messi or Ronaldo

 

I will say this, Depay is our future striker for the next 5 to 10 years or so

 

I dont see any better striker in Oranje right now

 

I had a feeling the Portuguese we're not gonna beat is this time.

I've been saying that Memphis' best position is as a striker since he was at PSV.
