<vent> I can't stand all the new "kids" music which consists of some "cute" man or woman with unruly hair holding a guitar, swaying back and forth with kids running around them. Lame. I dont' care what the content of the song is. LAME. Give me Raffi anyday, where the kids are encouraged to join in and be a part of the music. THAT is kid's music. </vent>
my guy also likes my gee-tar rawk. he starts dancing. he likes buckcherry, but I'll have to stop playing that for him once he can start repeating all the naughty words.
I was raised on the Beatles, myself. Many a happy memory dancing around the living room with the Beatles on full tilt. Good times...
My little girl loves watching me play air guitar. She gets such a kick out of it. I FINALLY HAVE AN AUDIENCE!
You have satellite radio? Both services have kids channels. Sirius has radio disney and their own kids channel. I don't know what XM has for kids.
Me too ... I love to shred. my wife is a damn good air drummer (really). so we're gonna teach our kid to play some air guitar (air bass?) and we'll go on tour Partridge style. funny story ... wife was teaching her seventh graders a year ago. and nobody in this english class knew what an air guitar was. Seriously! but i'll tell you ... that's probably the only thing those kids will remember from that class 20 years from now.
[I put Yahoo radio on my laptop and connect it to my sound system speakers. I tune in kids stations but they seem to prefer the classical - jazz stations. It also provides variety to expose them to different music i.e. African, Latin, Asian etc..
Raffi is the way to go. We got a 4 cd set of Raffi when the kids were young 'uns. We still play it for them after 7 years.
I disagree! I love XM Kids! Good music... fun personalities... sure there's some annoying stuff, but there's a lot of great stuff on that station.
Baby Beluga in the deep blue sea Swimmin' around in your own pee ... (I'll remember the rest in a few days)
NPR's All Things Considered runs an irregular series on what is new and noteworthy in kid's music. The last installment in December was entitled Children's music revives spirit of Punk Rock. Click on the story and you'll find links to songs from Wee Hairy Beasties, the Jellydots, and Johnny Bregar. Below that story is a list of the best children's albums of the year. Not really "online music" but songs you can give a try to online!
They Might Be Giants have done kids music, good stuff: http://www.amazon.com/Here-Come-ABC...=pd_bbs_1/103-9348332-8359052?ie=UTF8&s=music http://www.amazon.com/No/dp/B000068...=pd_bbs_2/103-9348332-8359052?ie=UTF8&s=music No! is pretty damn funny, I haven't heard anything from the other one.
I would definitely try to educate your children with music, not give them dumbed down versions of pop songs and all that mess. Nursery rhymes and all that stuff is great and every kid should listen to it. I also want to keep kids KIDS so suitable kiddie pop is necessary. But I agree with them listening to early Beatles and some Motown classics. Even if they are of the age where they can listen to popular hits on the radio, please listen to them first and really understand the lyrics before you have your children listen to it!!
