Yes those results made it necessary for us to need to win a record 13 straight to end the season. As we found out it was hard, especially when you have holes in your squad.
What we needed to do in the Chelsea game was pass around the back 4 and keeper for 90 mins and secure 1 pt. Instead we played more or less the same way - then the just soul crushing slip - and then Jose parked the bus and time wasted like nothing else. That would have meant in the Palace game we didn't need to go all out like donkeys to try to catch up on GD as we would have still been ahead of Citeh.
IIRC Chelsea started wasting time immediately after the kickoff (not just after they scored). I've never seen anything like that kind of negativity, before or since. even for Moaner it was a complete goddamn disgrace.
home games are usually an advantage, especially for us this year. so .... looking at fixtures in the second half of the season -- for us, City and Spares -- against the rest of the (current) top 10: Us ... 6 home games, 3 away City ... 7 home games, 2 away Spares .. 5 home games, 4 away
I wanted to wait until after beating Citeh to really jump on the bandwagon but this season has felt different since the Everton game. This is purely in our hands and if we're burying our collective heads come May, it'll be due to the most epic of failures. Like I said the other day, soak it in and enjoy.
Carra puts to bed the annoying narrative that uncontrolled emotion has stalled previous title runs. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/footbal...ools-title-chokes-club-must-feed-fans-desire/ Reality is those title challenges were made by overachieving squads who were up against better, more complete teams. The Anfield crowd only helped them get close.
We only have 3 games left against the other big teams and Spurs and Chelsea have to come to Anfield. There is not a single game left in the league that I wouldn't expect us to win before the match. We just need to keep the form that we showed in the first half of the season. Its going to be very tough, but we are still favorites.
Very important for us to have a good solid win next Prem game. No dropped points, no jitters whatsoever.
I guess I can't argue with that... we did blow it though.... hard to imagine those SAF United teams not closing th edeal with 4 games to go to see it out....
That doesn't hurt me as much as the ebb/flow of my passion surge in the couple of weeks after we beat Newcastle 4-3 at anfield in april '96. We were a better team than United that year and about equal to Newcastle and prob should have won the title... and been a lackadaisical corner clearance away from playing extra time at wembley for the double...
yes. Also - because for some reason I thought City had spurs and chelsea in their next four, but i was totally wrong. There next four are theoretically as easily winnable as ours are.... It's spuds who have two tough games in the next 4.... Utd and chelsea
Exactly - all this "we must do this and that to stay in the race" analysis is silly. There are 17 games left to play.. ffs.....
Citeh sweep aside Huddersfield, as expected. So 15 to go, with a 4 point lead... Liverpool vs Leicester @ West Ham vs Bournemouth @ Manure vs Watford @ Ev vs Burnley @ Fulham vs Tottenham @ Sothampton vs Chelsea @ Cardiff vs Huddersfield @ Newcastle vs Wolves Citeh @ Necastle vs Arsenal vs Chelsea @ Ev vs West Ham @ Bournemouth vs Watford @ Manure @ Fulham vs Cardiff @ Palace vs Tottenham @ Burnley vs Leicester @ Brighton Strangely enough, we are home-away-home-away for the rest of the season (in the Prem). I highlighted the games that are (IMO) the trickier of the bunch. Lots of drama to come!
why do you see the West Ham game as trickier than Leicester or Southampton?? The others I agree with.
unfortunately I think that from now on, City's games precede ours each week. as they do well, it adds to the pressure on us to keep winning each game.
Could be right, I guess. I'm more concerned by Leicester, but the home thing helps. (For some reason I thought we were away to them....)
yep, West Ham have almost 50% more points than Soton. mind you if they sell Arnautovic (or he could go on strike apparently if they don't let him leave) that removes their biggest goal threat by far.
yes, but pretty soon they play Arsenal and Chelsea one after the other. I'm thinking they draw at least one of those. That would give us the coushion of being able to afford a couple of draws ourselves....
