Actually, they were all on the road:- Stahl (Seattle) Califf (Toronto) Orozco Fiscal (Kansas) Miglioranzi (LA) Knighton (Dallas) Remember, most of the RCs were at the start of the year, when we were mostly on the road.
i still can not fathom how people cant make the distinction between a planned, coordinated chant (YSA) and a spontaneous reaction to events of the game (FYR).
Yeah, as evidenced by the alleged ref incident, having players and officials walk the concourse has proven to be a terrible idea, even more so than the traffic jam its closure creates. If the ref isn't terrible, it wouldn't be a problem, the video board shouldn't be covering up their flaws. Accountability is the only thing that will improve refereeing in any sport, currently they are untouchable powermad demagogues who think they're bigger than the game. When it's a good penalty, you want it replayed to show the crowd what happened, and withholding a video isn't going to save the ref from heckling. This guy was so bad they ought to cancel the crew's checks for the weekend, teach them a lesson.
So now anytime a ref makes a bad/marginal call we disagree with were allowed to chang F**k You Ref. Because it's not an organized chant like YSA. WHAT!!!! A ref in any sport/game is going to mess up/miss a call at least once so that gives us fair game to chant that every time? I don't think so. How do we know that it didn't catch on and now will happen everytime a ref blows a call?
there were 5-6 folks in 118 that were yelling it loud enough so that the entire endline could hear them, but after the first goal kick it was mainly one really big dude that also has a habit of being overly loud in general, and he's also quite negative towards our players...at one point he yelled something about Mwanga that was overly negative...it's one thing to cheer the team the team on, it's another thing to bash the team. with that said, this guy seemed unconcerned about the family next to him with small kids. at some point, people need to just know their environment. if you are around other adults, ok fine, at the end of the day, it will only be you that makes yourself look like a foul mouth. but if you're around some young children, show some restraint. if families refuse to come back to PPL because some overweight guy who learned YSA going to USMNT games ruined the experience for them, then that's the total opposite of supporting the team, regardless of if you are a SOB member or not. somebody may have reported him to someone because he left out of there for a while. I'm to the point now where I may start reporting the obnoxious bad language myself.
Actually I like the center tunnel. Any experienced ref isn't going to be all that intimidated by a bunch of drunk asses swearing at him, and the metal bleachers above the entrance is is LOUD before the games. Anything giving the team a home field advantage I'm all for. (beyond the fact that MLS teams have to fly in coach cross country on SWA with multiple long layovers). I was more speaking to the fact that the spreading of chants on such a shallow, long section is difficult. But yeah, not designing a way to the crowd to get through the concourse was a boneheaded move.
No - because now when it happens (i.e. any time a ref makes a bad call), it is more of an organised chant, and there will be issues.
Why the ******** not? This is all getting really ********ing silly to me. I mean do you really want to sit and baby sit thousands of fans and make sure they're not cursing at a damn sporting event? So should the "Asshole" chant, that's widely accepted at every sporting event, be banned as well because some ********ing soccer mom and their child sitting up in a suite might hear it. I never expected something like this to be such a huge deal when i joined a supporter group of a professional soccer team.
Yeah, definitely the point of my post. You guys are voicing your opinions, I'm mine. Sorry, but the fact that "******** You Ref" was chanted at a sporting event, and now people are worrying about it being said at future games just seems crazy to me. That is all.
i agree with you 100%. No censorship of any kind. Be aware of whats around (kids, families, etc..) you but no censorship.
Why are people on here bitching about sections outside of The River End? I don't care if people are doing YSA in 118 or 121. The SOBs were asked to stop in The River End, and for the most part, it stopped. People outside TRE can do whatever they want to. As for FU Ref, I stand by my earlier point. We were specifically asked to not do YSA - not by the team, not by the FO, but by the SOB. It is now more-or-less SOB policy to not do YSA. If you don't like the policy, don't be in the SOB. In being asked, it was acknowledged that other language would come up from time to time and it is understood. All this whining about censorship is ridiculous. Walk into your job tomorrow morning and tell your boss to "F*** himself." See if your censorship logic will hold up as you're being fired. This is a group with a leadership structure and rules. You don't have to like the rules or that leadership structure, but you do have to live with them. If you can't, then you need to find another group or start your own. Jesus Christ.. I'm so sick and tired of this same stupid argument. This thread gets post after post of utter nonsense, and nobody's even talking about the game on here.
FYP Seriously, what the hell are you defending? You're making about as much sense as a crack addict asking for one more rock. FUR simply happened. Do you seriously think anyone had that one planned? Does the entire stadium just wait for one of 7 bad calls a game so it can be chanted so loudly that it's the clearest thing on TV? C'mon, pal. This is insane. There's an old saying, "If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem." Which side do you think you are on? We really need to get over this one. There are so many bigger fish to fry.
I know FUR happend spur of the moment this game this weekend. but what is to stop it from happening again at the next game when i ref makes a bad call. If it becomes a problem we will have another 60pg thread debating why or why not it should be used.
agreed. This thread isn't going anywhere... it's basically just a whole thread arguing with tj who I'm doubting is older than high school age anyway.
Agreed. He's been one of the one's "adding fuel to the fire." Honestly IF it happens again then we face the issue then. There's nothing we can do at this point other than wait to see if it happens. We can hope it doesn't but if it does we deal with it then.
Welcome to the thread. No one is worried about it being said at future games. The only one even bringing up FUR is TJPunx. The only reason he's bringing it up is an attempt to gather support for his fucked up outrage over the YSA as a case of censorship by what he perceives as an out of control SoB leadership 'elite'. The whole discussion of FUR evolves around TJPunx asking 'Well if the SoB elite made a big deal over YSA then they have to make a big deal over FUR. And if they make a big deal over FUR then they're clearly communist terrorist bastards'. The rest of us are mostly trying to ignore him, but the last maybe 8 pages of this thread have been him saying stupid shit like 'If the SoB leaders/elders don't like YSA then they can leave the River End'... and then other people either telling him he's a tool for continuing to go on and on about this, or telling other people not to get into any more arguments with him about it. In the end it's just a downward spiral. Just thought I'd get that in before the lock.
I'm just worried that people will get blindly accused and tossed out for allegedly saying chants when people who throw WHOLE HOT DOGS ON THE FIELD (flying in the face of our charitable efforts on top of it) as well as attempting to hit the ref with their scarf go unscathed. The logic is quickly going out the window fast...
Because it was a topic of discussion and curiosity if YSA would carry on outside TRE with the "normal" fans even if TRE stopped. We were reporting what we could possibly hear and if it would carry on. Until the vulgarity with f*** happened, very few people were doing it. It was a success. But considering asshole is a lesser curse than f*** it came back in full force after the red card. Also, there are SOB's outside TRE too... I guess they can still do what they want. Like smoke bombs and flags and tifo's? No, not really. And as for FUR, the idea now is if there is going to be any backlash from the FO for it, if at all. As well as this being contradictory, and counterproductive to getting rid of YSA. That's the only point, and now that the point is made, time to argue aesthetics... and for TJ to write one liners that say everything and nothing at all
