Iran deserves terrorist state reputation

It is Iran’s participation in the genocide in Syria that earns it a reputation as the godfather of modern terrorism. Iran is instrumental in supporting the bloodthirsty regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. Iran’s involvement includes its forces on the ground plus arming, financing and training proxies in Syria.

The result: More than 500,000 civilians have been murdered, close to 5 million have been forced to become refugees, which has contributed to Europe’s worst refugee crisis since World War II, and 6.3 million people are internally displaced. Assad, with Iran’s help and blessing, has murdered children with poison gas.

If that was not enough, just one day after running Behnam’s objection to “anti-Iran bias,” The Register-Guard reported that Syria has executed thousands of imprisoned political opponents and burned their bodies in a crematorium. Amnesty International has reported that Syria has hanged as many as 13,000 people in four years and buried the bodies in mass graves.

IRAN’S ELECTION SHAM FORESHADOWS OMINOUS TIMES AHEAD

Just two weeks after the sham election result which provided an opportunity for the regime to revitalise and breathe again, its medieval revolutionary courts have restarted their man-slaughtering exploits with a vengeance by running group executions, mass arrests, and imprisonment.

As a blatant act of defiance and challenge to the world, the regime’s killing machine embodied in its judicial system has demonstrated how little the regime considers itself bound by international treaties or need to reform.

As part of these regime activities, according to Ahwazi rights groups inside Ahwaz, three Ahwazi activists, one of them a journalist, Issa Domni, 43; have been sentenced to one-year imprisonment plus exile by the revolutionary court number 4 in Ahwaz city.Reportedly, these activists were arrested at their homes by the Iranian regime’s intelligence forces on Monday, 16 January 2017 and went under interrogation and torture to confess to the fabricated accusations that were provided to them by the security officers.Their trial was held on 25th May in the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court in front of the notorious judge Pour-Mohammadi while they were denied access to an attorney to represent them during their trial.They were tried on a number of trumped-up charges such as ‘acting against the regime through establishing non-governmental charities’.

Issa Domni, a father of two children, has received a one-year sentence to be served in exile at Tekab city prison in the northwest of Iran. Issa Domni is a leading Ahwazi civil and educational personality with an academic background, a teacher, who had great presence and spoke often in local and national seminars and other events about diversity, tolerance and the advancements of society. In his spare time, Issa ran free Arabic classes for local Ahwazi children, teaching them reading and writing in their officially banned mother tongue, Arabic.

Another victim was Mojahed Zergani, 36, a father of one child, also sentenced to one-year imprisonment. Mojahed is an eloquent poet and used to enrich the cultural and traditional Ahwazi events, officially banned and prohibited by the regime, with his poems that encourage Ahwazis to be peace-loving, strengthening their sense of human rights and identity. Mojahed also used to study Arabic and literature in university and at the same time ran a charity shop to help support poor and destitute families. Another convicted Ahwazi is Naji Haidari, 38, a father of two children, who used to teach in a State-sponsored school as well as being an Arabic translator. Naji has been awarded and honoured as one of best Arabic teachers in the region.

Karim Dahimi, a prominent Ahwazi rights advocate, told Ahwaz Monitor that “the only crime committed by these Ahwazi Arab activists who recently arrested, imprisoned, and exiled was adhering to their own ethno cultural identity. He added, as an example, Gerga’oon is marked by children dressing in traditional attire and going door-to-door to receive sweets and nuts from neighbours, whilst also singing traditional songs”. “The custom has existed in Ahwaz, as in other Arab regions across the Middle East for hundreds of years and is deeply rooted in the culture of Ahwazi Arabs, but the Iranian regime seems unhappy with it due to concerns that it may remind Ahwazi children of their Arab identity, which Iran views it as a threat to the theocratic regime’s national security and therefore it simply cracks down on Ahwazi Arab activists who intend to hold it in the region”. “The Islamic Republic regime, with reactionary and repressive policies, is unable to tolerate even a little cultural activism undertaken by Ahwazi Arab activists”. “They use paranoid suspicions and false accusations to outlaw any activity that strives to preserve the customs, traditions, and culture of the Ahwaz Arab people”.

In a related case, the Iranian Intelligence Service of Ahwaz has summoned an Ahwazi Arab woman who is engaged in cultural activism. She is the manager of Nawares Hanaa Khorsan Cultural Group. The 35-year-old activist named Noora was summoned due to her efforts to revive an Ahwazi cultural ceremony named Gerga’oon. Dahimi asserted that “the Persian officials in Ahwaz who are operating in security agencies like the Intelligence Bureau hold extremely anti-Arab sentiments. They view the Ahwazi Arabs, not as fellow humans, but simply as security threats. As a result, the Iranian regime has sought to assimilate all the none-Persian ethnic nationalities, including the Ahwazi Arab people, by taking efforts to disband such cultural traditions. This is the biggest challenge that the Ahwazi Arab cultural activists in Ahwaz regional capital and other Arab cities are facing”, Dahimi added.

Ruth Riegler, a Scottish writer-editor, and freedom activist, said that “It shows the Iranian regime is getting desperate; they forget that you can only tighten the lid on a pressure cooker so often before it explodes. This is Rouhani, Obama’s ‘moderate reformist’ ally – the man who executed more than any other leader in his first four years, the man who’s led war across the region. Anyone who allies with him and this brutal regime is an accomplice in these crimes against humanity.”

These unjustified and unlawful verdicts issued against these Ahwazi civil activists indicate that, despite the international community’s optimism about Rouhani’s pledges, the outcome of the presidential election will not bring any hope or dialogue to the people of Iran’s diverse society and ultimately a popular uprising and revolution will be inevitable.

01-06-2017: 'The desecration of a mass grave site in Ahvaz, southern Iran that contains the remains of at least 44 people who were extrajudicially executed would destroy vital forensic evidence and scupper opportunities for justice for the mass prisoner killings that took place across the country in 1988, said Amnesty International and Justice for Iran.

Photo and video evidence obtained by the NGO Justice for Iran and reviewed by Amnesty International shows bulldozers working on a construction project directly alongside the mass grave site at Ahvaz, as well as piles of dirt and construction debris surrounding the grave. Although the Iranian authorities have made no official announcements about Ahvaz, families learned through a construction worker that the plan is to ultimately raze the concrete block marking the grave site and build over the area.

“By attempting to destroy the mass grave in Ahvaz, the Iranian authorities appear to be embarking on a sinister and deliberate effort to destroy crucial evidence of their past crimes and deprive the families of the victims of the 1988 mass prisoner killings of their right to truth, justice and reparation. This is a shocking assault on justice that must be stopped immediately,” said Magdalena Mughrabi Amnesty International’s Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa.

Islamic State Claims Deadly Iran Attacks on Parliament and Khomeini Tomb

07-06-2017: Several people were injured and at least one person died on Wednesday morning in two attacks in Iran, one on the Parliament and one on the mausoleum of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

The attack on the Parliament began in late morning, when four gunmen carrying two Kalashnikov rifles and one Colt firearm stormed the building, according to a lawmaker, Qolam-Ali Jafarzadeh Imenabadi, who spoke to the state-run Islamic Republic News Agency. One guard was killed and at least two others were wounded, according to the lawmaker.

The door to the main chamber of the Parliament was sealed, and lawmakers inside were told not to leave, the authorities said.

At 12:12 p.m., the situation was declared under control; one assailant had been arrested, but it was not clear what had happened to the other men.

Iran publicly executes five Kurdish rights activists in Urmia

21-05-2016: They were publicly hanged to death in central Urmia in front of hundreds of people, including their families who have been obliged by the Iranian authorities to witness the execution.

“The victims were human rights activists who used to document violations by Iranian security forces against civilians in the Kurdish city of Urmia,” member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Iran Dara Natiq told ARA News.

“By executing those activists, the Iranian government tries to prevent any reporting about its violations against human rights,” he said.

The Kurdish official added that Iran is executing an average of seven civilians and activists every week.

“Public executions have become a common scene in the main cities of Iran, mainly conducted on baseless charges,” Natiq told ARA News. “The Kurdish people have been for long suppressed and persecuted by the Iranian Islamic government. However, our activists will keep documenting those violations with a hope that the international community would ever take action and stop such barbaric acts by this tyrannical government.”

“Let history record that Iran owes al Qaeda invaluably,” Adnani bristled, saying he and his men had “complied with your [al Qaeda’s] request not to target [the Shiites] outside Iraq, in Iran and elsewhere.” Adnani, who was killed in an American airstrike last year, explained that ISIS was “acting upon the orders of al Qaeda to safeguard its interests and supply lines in Iran.”

After al Qaeda’s general command disowned ISIS in February 2014, Baghdadi and Adnani no longer considered themselves bound by al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri’s edicts. ISIS began launching indiscriminate attacks against Shiite Muslims far outside of Iraq, and it started eyeing operations inside Iran as well.

To this day, however, al Qaeda avoids attacks inside Iran—at least those that can be directly attributed to the organization. (It is possible that al Qaeda supports other regional groups that occasionally target Iranian security forces on their home turf.)

08-06-2017: The Obama administration "systematically disbanded" law enforcement investigative units across the federal government focused on disrupting Iranian, Syrian, and Venezuelan terrorism financing networks out of concern the work could cause friction with Iranian officials and scuttle the nuclear deal with Iran, according to a former U.S. official who spent decades dismantling terrorist financial networks.

David Asher, who previously served as an adviser to Gen. John Allen at the Defense and State Departments, told the House Foreign Affairs Committee Thursday that top officials across several key law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the Obama administration "systematically disbanded" law enforcement activities targeting the terrorism financing operations of Iran, Hezbollah, and Venezuela in the lead-up to and during the nuclear negotiations with Tehran.

"Senior leadership, presiding, directing, and overseeing various sections [of these agencies] and portions of the U.S. intelligence community systematically disbanded any internal or external stakeholder action that threatened to derail the administration's policy agenda focused on Iran," he testified.

Asher now serves on the board of directors of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies' Center on Sanctions and Illicit Finance and is an adjunct fellow at the Center for New American Security, two national security think tanks.

He attributed the motivation for decisions to dismantle the investigative units to "concerns about interfering with the Iran deal," a reference to the nuclear deal forged between the U.S., five other world powers, and Iran during the final years of the Obama administration.

Iranians make twice as much and rank higher on every single human index there is. Iranians are more educated. Iranians live longer. Iranians have better health. Iranian have a better economy. Iran is an almost industrialized developed nation, Egypt far from it.

Egyptians invented sleeping in graves, check the graveyards around Cairo. If there were a dozen homeless drug addicts in Iran sleeping in a graveyard,(who were all taken to a shelter and rehab centre the next day), there are literally tens of thousands of Egyptians who still live in graveyards around Cairo. Half of Cairo are practically homeless. Tehran actually has a smaller homeless population than most European capitals, despite the drug epidemic in Iran. Social welfare in Iran is on par with most socialist states with free education, free healthcare and monthly government welfare payments to all citizens, even those in the middle class who work. But don't let the facts get in the way of your anti-Iranian propaganda.

You're just mad because Egypt is no longer relevant on world stage, just a poor defeated nation who relies on American and Saudi handouts for survival, while Iran is a strong inpdendent nation .

According to human rights organizations, the core values of the national legislation including the constitution, laws, and the rights granted by international treaties and agreements ratified by Yemen were all violated by practices of the Houthi militia and its ally the former President Ali Abdullah Saleh Credibale human rights sources informed Rights Radar that the Houthi group and former president Ali Saleh created 484 new detention centers, as well as using the dozens of official prisons of the security authorities in the capital Sana›a and in the provinces which are under its controling in Yemen.

The amount of people abducted and detained by the Huthis group is estimated in 16,804 detainees since Houthi rebels› takeover the capital, Sana›a, on 21 September 2014 until the end of March 2017.

It transferred 484 of government and private buildings into detention camps for its opponents, including 227 government buildings, 27 medical clinics, 49 university buildings, 99 public and private schools, 25 sport clubs, 47 judicial .buildings and 10 private houses of citizens After its control over Sana’a on September 21, 2014, the Houthi militia immediately enforced an oppressive policy against its opponents in order to silence the voices critical of its armed and violent approaches to take over power.

AHWAZI WORKERS PROTEST OVER DISMISSALS, DEMAND 5 MONTHS OF WITHHELD PAY

On June 13, dozens of Ahwazi workers gathered in front of the 8th District municipality headquarters in Ahwaz to protest 5 months’ worth of salary withholdings. Ahwazi Arab workers congregated at the main gate of the building demanding municipal officials expedite payment in full of wages owed to them.The workers stated that they have faced very difficult economic conditions due to prolonged salary deprivation as well as an unprecedented rise in prices of goods across Ahwaz. They stressed the importance of being able to secure their families’ livelihoods in this month of Ramadan by holding up signs saying: “One who does not demand his rights has no dignity. Eid is approaching – do not let us feel ashamed in front of our families!” Protesters also drew attention to the massive inequalities between workers and their employers with signs saying: “The monthly income of manager is 12 times the income of an Ahwazi worker.”

TEHRAN’S CRIMINAL POLICIES PAVED THE WAY FOR ANOTHER AHWAZI CHILD’S DEATH

In a tragic incident that happens far too often, a 3-year-old Arab child named Ali Borwayeh fell into an open–unprotected–sewer canal near his home in Zarqan neighbourhood, a suburb of Ahwaz city.

He survived the fall, only to drown because there were no first responders prepared to rescue him. An inadequate emergency response arrived far too late to save the child. This incident marks another tragic chapter in the story of suffering his family has lived as members of the marginalised Ahwazi Arabs in Iran.

This incident brings to light many questions that have been asked before, but remain unanswered: Who is really responsible for the death of Ali and other Ahwazi Arab children like him? How did such a seemingly minor incident turn fatal? Tragedies like Ali’s recur far too often in Ahwaz, but the local and national authorities have never made any efforts to tackle the ongoing problem.

To understand Ali’s tragic death, the suffering his family endures, it is important to examine the region’s chronically neglected living conditions, limited access to emergency medical services, and incompetent local government’s officials.

The irony is that Saudi Arabia and Iran are more similar than they'd admit

04-07-2017: Saudi Arabia and Iran? They spend this blessed wealth on buying weapons - always from other nations - to destroy their neighbours and stifle critical thinking at home. Pathetic.

Saudi Arabia and Iran resemble one another in so many ways, from the extremity of their official religious doctrines, to the stupidity of their foreign policy, to their equally embarrassing claims to "lead".

For example, Sunnis in Iraq are easily the most open to and integrated into Shia beliefs, motifs and themes. No self-respecting Iraqi Sunni refers to Ali as anything less than "Imam Ali", but Iran chose to viciously persecute these Iraqis as its influence in the country grew, engaging in sectarian cleansing in Baghdad and beyond.

But as I said, Saudi Arabia and Iran resemble one another more than differ. In Yemen, the Zaidis are the closest to Sunnis along the Shia spectrum, but Riyadh has decided to make US arms makers happy by bombarding this poor country with no end in sight, while millions of Yemeni children starve.

It is disgusting, beyond pathetic.

Leadership? Iran and Saudi Arabia cannot even lead their neighbours into their embrace, but instead push them into the arms of their supposed "enemy". Meanwhile the world laughs at them, while a few white men become incredibly rich selling them weapons to destroy one another and the region.

Imam Ali wept following battles of the second civil war. Though he was victorious, he wept over his fallen brothers in Islam. Meanwhile, Muhammad bin Salman travels the world, shaking hands with Trump and Putin, constantly with a smirk on his face. Imam Ali weeps when Muslims fight one another. Salman smirks.

And Iran. Many Arabs openly acknowledge that Iran possesses a deeply sophisticated civilisation and has done for centuries. One would hope that Iranian officials would know better. As Iranian militia leaders cry "Ya Hussein" in Syria, they kill innocent civilians to protect a goofy, incompetent, tyrant who holds power in Damascus. Does Bashar al-Assad remind us of anyone?

Iran and Saudi Arabia invoke power through similar means. They both rely on myths and completely simplified versions of Islamic history, both of which malign the actual complexity and great civility of this deep region.

In Arabia, I kid you not, the historical remnants of early Islamic history are destroyed according to some strict "Wahhabi" mandate - to make way for… wait for it… shopping malls.

Iranian clerics have adopted some misguided theological premise of "Sunni Original Sin," wherein all Sunnis are responsible for the death of Imam Hussein in the year 681 AD, who was actually killed by some punk tyrant who ruled from Damascus.

This premise completely disregards the fact that "Khulufat ar-Rashidun" (the Rightly Guided Caliphs) is a Sunni concept, explicitly differentiating the early Caliphs from the Umayyads.

But do not hold your breath waiting for the clerics in Saudi Arabia or Iran to make sense.

Saudi Arabia and Iran, yes so much alike. They both have succeeded in adopting versions of Islam that marginalise the vast, vast majority of Muslims, Sunni and Shia alike.

I know many who truly believe the rise of both Iran and Saudi Arabia is a conspiracy born and bred in the West. They believe that brilliant analysts hiding in basements in DC or Tel Aviv pinned these two regimes against another by invading Iraq and removing Saddam Hussein.

They believe these analysts exploited certain belief structures and fears to create a century-long civil war in the region - and that is what this is, a region-wide civil war.

But I do not care for that line of thought. It absolves Muslims of their choices. Will we excuse the crimes of Saudi Arabia or Iran because we perceive either as defending our "sect"? I assure you that is hardly a spiritual position.

Irony is defined by the "actual meaning of something that contradicts its literal meaning". Iran and Saudi Arabia embody irony in all sorts of ways. They claim to defend Islam, while killing Muslims. They claim to resist the encroachment of "Godless western culture", while each buys up US and Russian weapons to create hell on earth.

Iran prefers not to mention its 92-years-and-counting occupation of Ahwaz (another occupation assisted by the British empire) and its own vast racism towards Arabs.

In 1925, Reza Khan, the Shah of Iran, invaded what was then called the emirate of Ahwaz, overthrowing the Arab ruler of the region [with British military support] and annexed the 330,000 square-kilometre area in 1934. The lands were confiscated by the state from their original Arab owners and then transferred to the government.

Since then, the state has systematically abandoned the land and people of the area, leading the fertile land to become a small desert and a source of pollution in the region.

These days, the drinking water delivered to homes in Ahwaz city is so dirty and brown in colour and the cost of repairing dated water infrastructure beyond the financial capabilities of the province, residents joke that they don’t drink water. They drink chocolate milkshake.

Intense but friendly, he continued his sister’s thought: “The biggest mistake that anybody can make when looking at Iran is to distinguish between Rouhani and [Supreme Leader Ali] Khamenei. If you just look at the law related to the elections in Iran, nobody can become president of Iran unless Khamenei has endorsed them. So whatever differences they have on one thing, they are united maintaining this regime, keeping it in power at any cost.”
