Opoku took it into the box out wide on the right and laid it off/back for Robinho to tap it past the keeper. Also - is Berhalter's son a trialist for us? #35 - Poppy has called out Berhalter's name.
And Williams just missed an absolute sitter off the crossbar. UGH. Cross into the box from out wide, volley into the keeper and spilled it. Williams attacked it from the top of the box and got under it.
Game ends 1-1. My roundup: Game featured bench players and reserves, no starters. Crognale looked decent, I wish he would get more playing time. Keita isn't a LB, but I'd like to see him in his natural CB position. Looks like there is some potential there. Clark was very solid in the middle. Argudo played as a CM. He was alright. Robinho on the wing.... I think he could be a very good USL player, I'm not sold on him as an MLS player though, not yet at least. Opoku just isn't good enough. JJ Williams looks good. I think he might surprise us this year. Not with 20 goals or anything, but he might be our #2 striker by the end of the year. Also, I managed to record the match, I'll upload soon (though it's for hardcores only lol, not much to see TBH).
I read that as “AndY Williams” at first, and just managed to claw my way back from a 20 year warp back in time.
My official match report: First, I need to stress that Hofbrauhaus does NOT have trough urinals. It has trough sinks. Which leads to me to conclude that I might have been a horrible patron on a previous visit(s). From what little I actually saw of the match, I was reminded why I watch very little USL soccer. Beer is good.
My thoughts are similar to Kyle Crew but a bit more cynical. I'll start by putting it this way. Jimenez kept his spot as a utility bench player without stepping on the pitch. Now for the breakdown. Let's start with the injury returnees. Williams - honestly thought he played a solid 30. Missed a few minutes here and there at the start, but didn't see any mistakes. Hansen - didn't get his full 45 that were tweeted about initially, but I thought he had some good runs. Pretty much right where he left off. Sosa - felt like he was pretty invisible. We really need a betterbbackup for Pipa. Our attack was a bit dull without that middle presence. Onto the other starters. Keita - agree with Kyle Crew. Definitely not a left back. A few overlaps, but mostly played solid D. Would like to see some CB minutes. But not sure who to bump for them. I think he needs loaned. Abubakar - a bit too handsy and aggressive tonight. I know he was dealing with a monster size forward, but it needs to be better. Maloney - the kid looks like he is giving 150% all the time, but is always behind. Just not good enough for MLS. Clark - probably our man of the match. Just played solid from back to front. Glad we resigned him for that D mid depth. Argudo - not sure which role he played better in. Don't think he has the touch and quickness to be the answer at the #10. Was serviceable as an Artur backup. Robinho - Our best attacking player on the night even without the goal. But he had some rather poor decisions of pass or shoot. Nice free kick placement, but too slow. Definitely USL quality wing play tonight. Mullins - Eh. Gonna get passed on the depth chart sooner rather than later. Onto the much awaited subs! Crognale - I still just don't see it. Everyone across all platforms wants to see more of this guy. To me, I consistently saw him chasing. Opoku - He has the speed. He has the off the ball movement. But he is just not good enough on the ball. Berhalter - um. Back to the academy? He was 10 steps behind the play at almost all times. Probably missing at least one other. I know another academy player came on for Clark, but it was so late in the match. But basically, I saw this as the trialist game, and nobody really moved up. My only question is, was Kempin played as our #2, or is Bendik really #2 and getting minutes with the first team on Saturday vs FCC?
Woohoo! Preseason Grouchy point. I think that matches my total for all of last session. I tuned in just in time for the final whistle. Thanks to all for the game reviews. I don't think I'll go back and watch. No realist award for me.
Other than Crognale, I agree with all this. What did you think of JJ Williams? I kinda tuned out by the end, but the couple times my attention perked up it seemed to be because JJW was causing havoc in the Charlerston defense. Had one shot cleared off the line in the final couple of minutes.
Sir, you are capable of much better trolling. Go have some chickpeas and rest up for tomorrow, slugger.
