Columbus Crew vs Charleston Battery Carolina Challenge Cup - Wednesday, February 20, 5:00 PM – MUSC Health Stadium Broadcast: Stream.Live is hot garbage but it is better than nothing, I guess. Links: I got nothing. Notes: CCSC vs CB in CCC… OMG! NBD, IMHO, TBH so GTFO! Get Crew’d!
Game Day Mother Truckers! Seems Porter is planning on some center back rotation for sure. Not sure if we'll see Trapp start and maybe play a half to make up for the game fitness he missed with the red card. We'll like know who striker #2 is, figure whichever between JJ and Mullins starts is #2. Some winger needs to step up. Lower level opponent, time to show some skill and speed and put a stamp on the game from the game. Sosa is still injured so we don't have much midfield creativity if we're not going to play Pipa. Argudo and Clark maybe starting with who knows playing Pipa's role? Anyway, a good chance for the "2nd XI" to get 60 minutes, some fitness, confidence and to show they can contribute. Other soccer related activities will prevent me from watching this one. I have to put in a late shift for a software release tonight so will try to catch the archive then.
Porter said CB Josh Williams is progressing from his plantar fasciitis and will play 30 minutes on Wednesday. Niko Hansen will play 45 minutes, as will Eduardo Sosa.— Patrick Murphy (@_Pat_Murphy) February 19, 2019 Niko and Sosa are scheduled to get 45. Have to imagine Robinho too. Based on the rotation for the CBs, Argudo seems likely to get some minutes too.
*anxiously tapping foot for the last 5 hours*It's gonna be OK. The 🖤&💛 will be kicking off very 🔜Today's Starting XI vs. @Chas_Battery ⤵️#CCC19 | #Crew96 pic.twitter.com/h3Y7aUdTvl— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) February 20, 2019 And there it is. Lots of young guns getting a run out today.
Looks like we'll get a half in the 4-2-3-1 with the backups. Wonder if we'll get a formation shift for the 2nd half.
--------------Kempin------------- Keita---Williams---Abubakar ---------------Clark--------------- ------Argudo-----Maloney----- ---------------Sosa--------------- Hansen---------------Robinho --------------Mullins------------- Maybe a 3-4-2-1 diamond?
Wouldn't be the first preseason game where the "position" next to their name in the release was not where they played on the field. I would be shocked to see any of our 3 CBs playing a fullback position.
That's true, my initial thought was we'll see how they were formed in the scrimmages but Murphy tweeted something about Keita playing Leftback and with the talk of backups and how we played Saturday, I just ran with it being the same. Your lineup makes sense with the players on the field and Maloney probably fits better in the midfield than Keita as a fullback. But if you want to see how backups fare, you should probably play them in the formation they would be subbed in to.
Okay, I'm heading to Hofbrauhaus, where I believe they have trough-styled urinals (and a Doppelbock seasonal on draft). I expect a full match report by the time I get home.
So: -------------------Kempin----------------- Maloney--Williams--Abubakar--Keita -----------Clark--------Argudo--------- Hansen--------Sosa-------Robinho -------------------Mullins-------------
Whew, Lalas almost committed a "2017 Mensah" with a horrible backpass that forced Kempin to slide about 35 yards off his line.
Crew down 1-0. Commentators gave it the Charleston striker, but it looked like a Lalas Abubakar own goal to me.
Sosa literally hauled down from behind, somehow not a card. Char had a guy slide tackle from behind as well, no card. Crognale on for Williams in the 32nd minute.
Welp, my feed is alternating between three seconds of live video and 15 seconds of a still frame. Wonderful. At least CCL is on a half-functioning platform.
Dude that got away with a free slide tackle from behind just hacked down Maloney as he was running towards midfield on the sideline going out of bounds. Ref reluctantly gives him a yellow.
