I can't help but get excited about the U-20 WC. With so much attacking talent available for selection, it's going to be exciting to see. I can't wait to see how the young German-based guys get on over the next few years.

 

Any update on Gaines? Since his red card on March 3rd, he hasn't appeared in the 18 for the U19 team.

 

I read (translated) an article about a week or two ago that said he was suspended for two more games from that red card.

 

Bump. Looks like he went 90 in a 3-0 victory so it appears his suspension is over. In clicking through Wolfsburg u19 soccer way page, if I am reading this right it does not look like they have lost in a year (32 games).

Started against Dortmund in the U19 semi-final. Currently down 1-0.

This is my first honest look at Gaines in quite a while but the ability is still obvious. Outstanding physical tool set with good technique and great feet. Tricky player to defend 1v1.

Didn't see much of the ball in the first half, most play was progressing up the opposite wing and when he was involved the final ball or decision was off a few times but you can see the talent.

Had a couple of clever Hazard-esque turns in his own half then proceeded to smoke everybody with pace.

Is he eligible for the next U20 cycle?

 

No, he's a 98.

He also won't be eligible for the U19 Bundesliga next season, so it will be interesting to see what Wolfsburg does with him.

 

That's too bad Idk why I thought he was the same age as Taitague.

The article also says that Wolfsburg has a buyback clause in the deal. So if McKinze does well enough he could end up right back in the Bundesliga. Regardless, I think it's a good move for him. He will wear the number 27.
