Apparently Stoke can't get enough of us Americans. Figured this thread could be used to discuss all rumors for Omar because of the fact that he'll be out of a contract by the end of the season.
That wouldnt make a ton of sense considering Huth and Shawcross are pretty darn good and then theres Cameron....
This would be an awful move. Shawcross and Huth are both excellent defenders. Omar will probably be meeting with a lot of teams in the near future so it's nice to see that a Premier League team is interested.
I was thinking this too, good to see he's catching the eye of some BPL teams. I agree Stoke would not be a good move because of their CB depth.
What ever happened to Nuremberg's interest? Didn't they indicate that they'd be interested in Gonzalez again once healthy? I've never heard any discussion about it since.
I'm starting to think Stoke is like a drunk dude on a Saturday night and American players are like the girls in his phone. He's just sending out a mass text hoping he'll get some bites.
Dont need him. Shawcross, Huth, Muniesa, Pieters, Wilson, Cameron, N'Zonzi are all credible back options, we need to strengthen attacking positions
Both Showcross and Huth have been the subject of transfers in the past. I think it was ManU that wanted showcross. If they can get him for 10mm and gonzo on a free, it feels like good business, assuming Gonzo can handle the pressure.
EPL is probably best fit for his style. I'm sure many clubs will be interested because he can come in on a free.
United have even less need for a CB than us. They have Vidic, Ferdinand, Evans, Smalling and Jones, and are about to sign Garay. Shawcross and Huth have just signed new deals, and even if one did leave, we've signed Muniesa
Vidic - out most of the year, Ferdinand - older than the personal computer, Evans - adequate, not more, Smalling - fragile, Jones - played as a dmid. Don't know Garay, but I was just mentioning Showcross was on plenty of transfer wish lists. Plus he is Pulis player, Sparky might want a different skill set. Muniesa is largely unproven at all levels, correct?
After seeing Gooch tank at Newcastle (prior to his injury), I'm not sure about that. Big, slowish defenders don't really thrive in that environment. The bigger defenders that do well in the EPL are guys that have surprisingly good pace (Terry for one example). I would like to see OG go to Germany, where they can really harness his positioning, and ability to utilize height to its maximum advantage.
It'll never work... Good thing the players don't think like the fans...still, I'd like to see him go to Germany if there's still interest
At least one other Premier League suitor and also interest in Mexico according to Greg Seltzer: http://www.noshortcorners.com/2013/08/the-gonzo-beat.html
