Thanks for the updates, but I don't think they'll be needed anymore. I can't see him being relevant ever again for the USMNT. He cooked his own goose with his own goal, too many times he's failed the team.

I'm shocked he even starts for Pachuca anymore, he's gotten so bad. Half his games he makes big howlers, and we are talking about low level football here, so if he's any good, the howlers should be very infrequent. This guy was so much better four years ago.

It damn well better be. Miazga and now CCV are getting PT...they should easily get calls over Gonzo. There's depth too once Brooks gets healthy, plus EPB and Glad will be knocking on the callup door soon

Got a second half stoppage time assist to give Pachuca a 1-1 draw at Atlas yesterday.

A nice little assist with a header.

Gonzalez's Liga MX season may be over with Pachuca not making the playoffs, but the club has a busy period coming up to end 2017. Los Tuzos and Gonzalez face Atlante on Tuesday in the semifinal of the Copa MX and will open their Club World Cup campaign in Abu Dhabi on Dec. 9 against Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca.

ha ha - their opponents were down to 10 men in extra time, so was a big ask for them to score with or without Omar...

Good start IMO. Herrera isn’t really a step up from omar and we might as well have coverage for set pieces.

Doesn’t mean we will win though. Gremio has a dude That looks like Ronaldo vs CONMEBOL teams.

That Gremio goal was on him. I don't think Herrera is great either but if it's up to me, both guys can fucck off.

And in this year of disasters, Gonzo plays 120 minutes in the biggest game for a Yank in 2017: the semi-final of the Club World Cup.

Yep, he was too "tronco" to stop the goal, but in the extra-time he had a superb sweep to stop the second.

All in all, a decent outing, even though the Mexicans don't like him because he comes from MLS (and he's a "tronco" at times), and we don't care about him because of the own-goal that kept us at home next summer.

IMO it doesn't make sense to evaluate defenders and GKs on indivdual bad plays vs good the way you would a striker. A bad play on defense or from a GK is more consequential than a bad play on offense, etc. We need a better striker also but Omar just isn't good enough to play at the level that this team demands anymore. Sadly neither are 3-4 other players.

I don't like him cause he sucks.

We won 3rd place after owning that Al Jazira team. BTW only Puch and Cano were placed on transfer list. I thought a couple other players needed to go but I’d rather see this than for them to go on a selling spree and end up getting rid of a player that needed to stay, all while dismantling the team.

Omar really fell off a cliff lately. He always had obvious shortcomings but used to get the job done.

He started in the CWC 3rd place match:

DANGER for LOS TUZOS http://www.foxsports.com.mx/watch/E46760 Al Jazira took the against Pachuca, but a great sweep of Omar González avoided that.

He did fine today, FWIW. But Al-Jazeera obviously didn't care, their prize was trying to get Real out of the final.

I think Omar has won almost every prize in North American Footie - check that - when Pachuca returns to Mexico, Los Tuzos will play Monterrey for the Copa MX - I will be rooting for him

He's been pretty fortunate to play with Pachuca.

His teams have won despite of him and not because of him.

Competitively speaking there are only 2 prizes for this tournament, win it or get a match vs the European team. BTW we lined up a half-alternative squad so unless Al Jazira went full reserve team, they cared at least as much as we did. Also I think the 3rd place winner takes home like 3 million which is a big deal for everyone except Madrid.
