Congratulations on the championship! Hopefully Cruz Azul can stop being and embarrassment and take the title from you guys though! Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
No surprise. Omar is a winner. He walked his way into the starting XI, never lost his place, and ends his first campaign in Liga MX with a title. It's not always pretty and he'll have his share of errors but the positives far outweigh the negatives and his trophy cabinet is a testament to that. Not Edgar Castillo's finest moment on that last minute winner.
u-15, 1st place and Champions. u-17, 1st place and Champions. u-20, firts place and quarter final exit. main squad, 2nd place and Champions not bad.....
Omar Gonzalez is really enjoying this. #LigaMXfinal https://t.co/6o7GxGS6oA— Ben Jata (@Ben_Jata) May 30, 2016 Pachuca's win gives Omar Gonzalez Liga MX title 2go w/his 3 MLS Cups, 2 Supporters' Shields, Gold Cup & NCAA title🏆🏆 https://t.co/yJlAoj0SA6— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) May 30, 2016 Respect south of the border: two Americans (Castillo/Gonzalez) in Liga MX final; eight (!) in Sub-20 final https://t.co/fCEYquzIGM— Paul Kennedy (@pkedit) May 30, 2016
Congrats to Omar. Nice work from him this season. The Mexican posters in this thread have mentioned Oscar Murillo numerous times, so I finally looked up a bit more about him. Turns out he was briefly on loan with the Colorado Rapids in 2010, but his loan was terminated after a few months; he never made an appearance. Wonder what happened there - seems like a missed opportunity for the Rapids, although it was a long time ago and I'm not sure of the circumstances.
It looks like he knocked around Colombia's lower divisions until getting to Atletico Nacional in 2012.

I didn't know about a stint with Rapids but he was champ his final season with Atl. Nacional. As complete a CB as you'll find. Omar does hold his own also though. Monterrey attacked almost exclusively through Mosquera tonight (a once great defender who just played his final game with us). Ironically, Mosquera's tackle and ejection led to our title. Seeing everything that went down today almost makes one want to believe in fate. Media outlets and daily newspapers are pretty much stopping the presses right now and putting in overtime to redo their cover story. Just the way it is in Mexico. They gave full odds to Monterrey despite the fact that they only ended up 7 points ahead of us. Back in 09 we lost a final to UNAM after finishing 10 or 11 points ahead on the table and the bias wasn't anywhere near as strong as today. Pachuca in its own way is changing the rules, bringing players into the youth ranks at 9 or 10 years old. They identify with the club.
Is this the Mosquera that played for America for a long time? Or am I mistaken him for someone else? Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
This feeling will never get old! So proud of my teammates & our entire staff. And so proud to be a Tuzo! Champions! pic.twitter.com/SzUX7SxUyI— Omar Gonzalez (@Omar4Gonzalez) May 30, 2016
Omar joins Herculez Gomez to do the Liga MX-MLS Cup double. Special asterisk for Dominic Kinnear. He did win a USL title with Seattle before MLS existed. That was arguably the biggest title one could win in the US. So he did a US-Mexico double in a way (of course he's won MLS Cup as a coach). He only played sparingly for Necaxa in 1995, but he did play. Question for the Mexican fans: does the fact that there are 2 championships per year make each one any less meaningful, or no?
Mosquera began his career in Mexico w/ Pachuca in 2005 to 2007 - then he was held hostage in Sevilla, before returning to Mexico w/ America - Mosquera was a Campeon w/ Pachuca before & he is a Campeon again I have to disagree w/ you there bro - Los Rayados were going after Manni Garcia, who IMHO was like a Black Hole for Pachuca - once the ball went to him, Los Tuzos wouldn't get the ball back unless Los Rayados kicked the ball out of play - Garcia did make up for all of his shit w/ that great cross into the box for Guzman to find the back of the net
Replies aren't very nice Huge compliment and Congratulations to @Omar4Gonzalez for winning the #Clausura2016!!@Tuzos— J_Klinsmann (@J_Klinsmann) May 30, 2016
My fault for not clarifying. I meant from the 2 CBs, I don't remember them trying to get through Omar's side. I do remember several plays where they tried to get through Mosquera.
don't forget the PK, that was Manni Garcia too. Los Tuzo left side was wide open all match & when Los Tuzos had the rock & let Garcia handle it, he almost always gave it away. I remember one time El Conejo was about to give him the ball, then thought otherwise - I cheered when Conejo made that decision but in the end it was Garcia that sent in the cross into the box for Guzman - all is forgiven now
