Liverpool Football Club can confirm they have completed the signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton. The 24-year-old has put pen to paper on a long-term contract after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms at Melwood. He will officially become registered as a Reds player on July 1. Immediately after inking the deal, Mane told Liverpoolfc.com: “Today is a big day and I am very happy to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe. “It’s a club that has won a lot of trophies and has a big history. “Now I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and my teammates and starting the season.” Mane moves to Anfield after two seasons in the Premier League with Southampton in which he netted 25 goals in 75 appearances in all competitions. The forward also has 36 caps for Senegal and has scored 10 goals for his country.
Welcome to the Reds. May your time here be fruitful and trophy filled. We'll miss him during the ANC every other year.
Another Soton player The curse of BR lives on. Not familiar with him at all but I hope he can exceed expectations which are low.
Klopp on Mane. “I have followed Sadio for a lot of years since his impressive performances in the Olympics in 2012, and then watched his development in Austria and in his time at Southampton,” he said. “Since I came here I have spoken to the staff a lot about him and have always felt he could be a very good signing for us. “He has a lot of quality, works hard and has a very good goalscoring record. “When I spoke to him I could tell that he was passionate about joining the club and playing for our fantastic fans. “I think they will be just as excited about seeing him put on a Liverpool shirt as I am. “It is great that we have managed to sign him so he can work with us from the first day of pre-season.”
I'm sure klopp followers a whole list of players given the traits of modern management but anyway what's important is this is one that klopp wanted, he knows the player and what he brings to the club to a certain degree and is definitely a positive signing
Welcome!! Here is to hoping that you find more consistency with us and that you are a continuous goal threat.
This is the most encouraging thing that everyone should appreciate. Sure - not all signings work out - but Klopp has been wanting to sign him even when at Dortmund - and that's so important.
Haha maybe so - he also wanted Benteke when he was younger - probably figured he could actually teach him back then.
He scoured him but the fact he was unwilling to match Villa's £7 million offer probably means he wasn't too impressed. All conjecture, of course. I do know we were interested in Mané before he went to Southampton but Rodgers reportedly wasn't keen.
Benteke was easily young player of the year few seasons back so there was something about him that could equate to a decent player...and if utilised correctly he is a definite 25 goal a season striker
Looking g forward to the new season...hoping that Klopp's first full season - with his pre-season training, can get the boys all playing on the same page...and that some of the "misfits" (Benteke, perhaps Moreno and even li'l Joe) can find a place that they can be useful on the team...as well as the new signings (and players coming back from injury) bedding in well right from the start... Starting to believe...let's run for the Title!
Speaking of Benteke, the Mane signing should allow us to sell Benteke without worrying about our depth up front. Mane will mostly play on the right wing, but can also play as a center forward if we need him to. We now have Sturridge, Origi, Ings, and Mane as options up front.
I wonder how much of that was simply because he was bigger than most. He looks to me like he hasn't much developed the other all-round skills and technique to get to the next level.
Watch the wonderful game against Soton where we were up 2-0 and he almost single handedly brought it to a 3-2 win for Soton in the 2nd half. If only he was that consistent.
Another case of only scouting players who have world-beater matches against us? Klopp maintains he's been watching the lad since '12 though.
