I'm rooting for Messi first. Then I'd like to see Belgium and France play up to potential. I'd like to see Mex lose by the largest margins in history. Dont care what it means to concacaf, since we're all garbage anyway. Otherwise, I want the best players to play like they're best and new players to emerge on the world stage.

How does the tournament line up with the MLS "transfer" window? It is often interesting to see where players go afterward; some gain notoriety, some lose it.

"In 985 AD, Eric the Red set forth from what are now the fjords of Norway to conquer all in his path. His first stop, Iceland - an uninhabited land of geothermal instability. Good thing it was uninhabited too, for Eric and his merry band of bloodthirsty conquerors brought with them the Viking Clap, a terrible venereal disease that left its unfortunate victims unable to remember their own last names. That baby spread like wildfire in the natural hot springs that dot the island's snow-covered expanse. To this day, if you ask the descendants of those mighty viking conquerors what their names are, they'll tell you, 'John. Um... er... John's son.'"

Saudi Arabia really sucks. Russia is horrible too, but wow, Saudi Arabia might be one of the worst teams I've ever seen play in the World Cup.

There was a snarky handshake after the first goal between Vladimir Putin and Prince bin Salman that almost made you think that the outcome of this game was arranged beforehand. The way the Saudi defender fell to ground with no contact was comical.

I'm not saying there was anything nefarious going on. Just saying that it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I can't imagine the amount of money you'd need to pay /buy an Oil Shiek or whatever the hell he is. Of course Putin is a rich as a Chinese General himself so I'm out of my depth when it comes to mega billions or national leaders sellin/ buying each other

It will be even worse when they increase the number of teams.

Seats in the Yekaterinburg Stadium for Uruguay-Egypt are as empty as the net, 0-0 at the break plenty of whistling from those who are there. No Mo. Maybe in the 2nd and Cavani and Suarez play like they never met each other before.
Spain-Portugal should be a ripper can we hope for war between the nations as a result?

It's a small venue that was expanded for the minimum too...

Big 3 points for Uruguay. Now their goal should be to win the group.

That round 2 match between Russia and Egypt probably decides who gets to go through with them. Russia could probably settle for a draw in that game and still be well positioned to advance.

BTW attendance in Yekaterinburg was just above 27K. I guess it's to be expected in the most remote Eastern venue in this WC.

Crowd looking much biggerr in St. Petersburg for Iran - Morocco.

Or as the Russian real estate agents say, just 7 time zones from the Pacific.

Wow. That guy from Morocco has to come out and play two more games too. I bet he just wishes the earth would swallow him whole.

That looked like a DC united intra-squad scrimmage.

A Portuguese player who plays for a Spanish club just scored a PK on a Spanish goalie who plays for an English club

Andres Cantor calling the match on Telemundo is refreshing not to listen to some Brit talk about the crotch crickets of east douchewater being relegated during a world cup match. Why do they think people care?
Portugal 2 -1 Pepe makes Ramos look Saintly

Well, Portugal-Spain was entertaining. I guess Ronaldo is motivated. Jeebus that last goal was millimeter perfect.

Sadly as a Spain/Barcelona fan he does that waaaay too often. As a guy who loves the game, give him the ball. One from the spot, one courtesy of Butterfingers DeGea, and and one from God himself.
What will Messi do tomorrow in reply?

France really underperforming and struggling. Australia matching well against them. Refs often missing fouls, but saved by the new technology.

Umtiti lead candidate for dumbass of the tournament. Pogba's chip to win it saves it.
