Cool, I get the first "Just ignore Jim Rome" post

    Just ignore Jim Rome.

  6. I still say ESPN has something to do with this!

No surprise there. But that was really just a bad review for World Tour Soccer, as opposed to a soccer-bashing article.

Frankly, I'm surprised the Times didn't take the opportunity to bash the sport, outside of a few snide comments at the start and finish...anybody who remembers some of the articles that appeared in that fishwrap during the WC knows they love to do it. Where was the mention of soccer being evil because it's a "socialist" sport? Frankly, the Times is slipping, if you ask me.

The times could have possibly been the worst bashing paper in the country during the world cup. Those damn conservatives.

    The Moonie Times

The only reason to ever read the Moonie Times is to find out when the next mass wedding will be, and to find out who the Galaxy play in the "Moonie Cup" I heard the winner gets free carpet cleaning for the next ten years.

    Midwest, the real one.
All good humor has some truth to it. Let's face it, soccer is an acquired taste.

Umm. So's every sport on the planet. Not to mention just about every other commercial entertainment option you can think of.

    Do I understand?

What this guy Jim Rome says, anti-soccer things but not when USA team wins...[IMG]

    "USA! USA!

I have a bunch of other things I need to be talking about on this website, but I’d rather spend all of my time reliving OUR great win. WE did it. OUR monumental victory over Portugal is mind numbing. WE shocked the world. And to all of you who thought we were going to finish in 32nd place, how does that taste?! How do you like US now?

I am a soccer guy, through and through. I always have been a soccer guy and I always will be a big soccer guy. OUR big win over the Portugese is honestly the only thing that matters today. Not the Lewis-Tyson fight, the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup…none of it. The only thing of consequence is OUR win in the World Cup.

Frankly, besides myself and maybe…Kevin Frazier of Fox Sports; nobody really believed in the American World Cup team like WE did.

I don’t mean to talk down to those that don’t follow the sport, don’t get the sport or really don’t appreciate the sport…but THAT was huge. Of all the games I’ve seen in my life, this was something special. And WE did it without the service of two of our best players, Clint Mathis and Claudio Reyna. Just like the Lakers, never underestimate the heart of a champion. Maybe I should say, just like the American World Cup soccer team, the Lakers have heart. Let’s keep this in its rightful order and proper perspective"
    Etc etc

    Oh, USA´s pride [IMG]

Re: Re: Soccer bashing in the washington times

Their man Ken Haydon does a decent job covering DC United and other soccer news. He's definitely allowed to "enterprise" and do more than just match reports and the predictable stuff.

    The "Sporting" News....again

    The On Air section:

    ouch >;(

  22. Out of every publication I think the Sporting news is easily the worst soccer bashing rag ever.

Where's your proof that Defort and Gumbel are "soccer bashers" - and please define "soccer bashers", too. I've heard both of them say some very positive things about soccer.
