So the first super classico of the year, and Chivas look to be much improved. Can we continue our streak? Will Chivas rule Southern California this year? Will the Galaxy take Landon's comment to heart and get their act together? Will Sampson take the lessons learned over the weekend to heart and start Ned, and leave Vagenas on the bench?

I'm hoping to see Glenn and Herc up top, with Donovan starting in place of Vagenas and Ned starting in place of Cobi.

Then let Cobi come on mid-way through the second half for whichever winger isn't pulling his weight. And if Thiago is with us, maybe throw him in late in the game to get a little "taste" of what it's like.

Those moves plus our defense making the right assignments on set piece defending plus Albright and Dunivant continuing to regain fitness might make this is a great game to watch.

I second that, it was right after Cobi and Pete were benched that LA actually produced.

we have a better defense. they have a better attack. defense wins championships but not always games.

no. we have too much pride for that.

    they'd better.

    yeah right.

I don't want to bring this up, but I don't think it can be ignored now...

...if we lose this, is there any way that Sampson sticks around? How big a game is this for him?

unfortunately between winning the double and losing doug i think sampson has lucked his way in to lasting at least half the season. the only thing that might accelerate that is if the attendance figures drop.

as for the chivas game. based on the balance of play i would think they'll pick up their first win against us on saturday, but then soccer is a funny old game. the "rivalry" might just be enough to knock some sense in to this team. i'm not counting on it, but i wouldn't be surprised if it did happen.

I think we pull out a win. The "rivalry" does mean something to these guys and they'll pick it up.

Also, I predict Pete moves back into D-mid and Landon takes his spot as attacking mid/withdrawn striker. Saragosa seeing the bench.

If we start Grabavoy we can bring Cobi in for him when Grabs gets tired. However against a team like Chivas wouldn't we want a defensive minded lineup out there?

Last season our funnest to watch games were against Almost Goats so lets see if it will happen again.

By the way will Chivas sell out this game?

I was never impressed with Sags. I hope he gets benched.

Currently the Galaxy is practically playing with one leg. I am predicting a tie with Chivas although Chivas will come out their hearts out and play to kill. I think that Chivas is thirsty for some Galaxy blood. Its just really ashame that our attendance dropped, but what can you expect from a team that is not like a proffesional team. Are going to create another L.A. Drama concerning Landon and Herculez just like the Kobe and Shaq?

I dont think Chivas will sell out, although they have been promoting the classico in the spanish media. I think that they will draw about 25,000.

Oops. I meant to say Nagamura, not Saragosa.

But, either way, I think Pete gets moved back into D-mid. And, this is his natural position anyways. It's just a shame that we have three (I think) fairly talented defensive midfielders.

And I don't see SS going anywhere anytime soon. We'd have to lose ten in a row; or get a new GM who hates Coach Sampson. I can't think of anyone like that... except that tall guy with the red hair who used to play on the Natl team...

    Here's a question. . .

With the type of players we have, what is the point of a 4-4-2? We don't have strong wingers, our Left Back is not an attacking specialist. We have no true attacking midfielder (ok, we do, but he's a forward now, and will continue to be until I see otherwise).

What are the possible downsides to playing this line up on Saturday?

    ----Gato----
    ---Albright------Ugo------Marshall---
    -------Vagenas------Nagamura-------
    ---Grabavoy----Landon----Gardner---
    ----Herc-----????----

Ugo's a Center. Marshal has played on the right, and probably should until Dunivant is fully recovered. Not to go tinkering-mad, but Tyrone is a D-mid for the Jamaican Nats, he could replace Nagamura, and we'd still have Dunivant at Left Back. That would give us some height in the midfield. . .

    Just day dreaming. . .

Herc and Landon are not Kobe and Shaq - if anything, they're way on the same page that the team needs to step it up.

both of them have quotes talking about how the team needs to play with more heart, attitude, and professionalism.

    and they are right.

and the advice could apply to the fans as well. i'm not talking about legit criticism, but the wild speculation, ragging on our boys, pouting and the whining after two games is beneath true G fans.

True professionalism isn't falling over every single time your touched. And bitching at the referees about it after either.

Since my prediction radar needs a bit of fine-tuning after the off-season, I'm using reverse psychology for this game:

We will lose 3-1 with Rat-face scoring a hat-trick, and Hartman scoring our goal from 25 yards out

[RESULT]That translates to, we will win 2-0 with Glen getting his first G's goal, and Landon grabbing the other after some nifty wing play from Gardner[/RESULT]

I would have to think this is big for the team as well as for the fans. I think sampson ass should be in the fire if we don't win. We have been unpredictable as far as the production of offense. I don't think we have a prayer of a shut ou in this one. Chivas got robbed of one goal in DC and was alot closer than a 2 -0 would say. I thought chivas had the better of play but like us the back faultered, mostly because of speed. If we start Glen and If we have Donovan playing behid them him and Herc, What ever you call it be it a 3-3-4 or 4-4-2 or call Donovan an attacking mid or a withdrawn forward it is just simantics. We need landon to push the team forward and glen to hold and allow Herc and Donovan to attack the backline with speed. This is the main reason for Glen to be here, right? I think this is going to be a nail biter for us. I also think that the first ten minutes are gonna be an aunsloaught against us.

I Have a strange feeling we will see this on Saturday

    -------------Gato--------------
    Albright---Ugo---Tyrone---Todd
    ----------Nagamura------------
    --Pete----Donovan----Gargner--
    ------Herc-------Glen----------

I don't like that formation but something is telling me that is what SS2 will put on the field.

Taking Sean's lead I'm going for the set-the-bar-low loosely based on reality prediction:

Chivas up 1-0 in the 17th minute converting on a PK; foul in the box by Tyrone earns him a red card forcing the Galaxy to play with 8 men (Ugo and Herc already sent off in the 2nd and 15th minutes respectively). But amazingly Galaxy persever and manage to draw even in the 2nd half 1-1 on a Donovan PK after John O'brien hand ball in the box.

are you calling out Landon? Herc? Kobe? or Shaq?

because if its Landon, did you see the play where he was fouled so hard he lost a shinguard? the ref didn't call a yellow, because it would have been the second one on that Fire player and he was just too chicken to do it, I think.

if its Herc, and you really think that he's falling over every time he gets touched, you should be happy to know he's probably going back to the bench next game.

i'm not saying our players don't screw up and can't play better, but phrases like "every single time" and references to our guys "bitching" doesn't show any objectivity on your part. you're just looking to be negative.

ok. our team sucks. they're going to lose 4-0 to Chivas.

because all they do is fall over and bitch.

    happy now?

I honestly think Herc fell over every single time he got touched last game.

I don't want him to get benched, I just want him to suck it up and work as hard as he possibly can so he can do for us what he did last year, provide a spark, inspiration and hope, something he hasn't brought in any of the games this year (costa rica games, and the two so far this season).

Hopefully the competition from Glenn/Thiago will be that motivation for him to just get on with what he does best; playing soccer and scoring goals, not moaning, fallling EVERY SINGLE TIME and complainign to the referee about it afterwards.

We won't lose 4-0, but we very easily could lose.

    Personally I think it'll be a 2-2 draw.
