Interesting story of Union County's county seal. Dates back to first NJ woman killed by the Redcoats.

A bald eagle. The scales of justice. A farmer and his plow.

They’re the typical symbols found on governmental seals that hang in meeting chambers, can be found on letterhead, or are emblazoned on the back of business cards.

But in Union County, they chose to go with something different — a grisly murder scene of the first woman killed in the Revolutionary War in New Jersey— who was shot in her home while protecting her family.

That very woman — or maybe her husband— is said to haunt the grounds where she lived, now known as the Caldwell Parsonage in Union Township...

And a great Revolutionary War footnote about her husband the Rev. Caldwell:

Two weeks later, the Rev. Caldwell found himself fighting British troops during the Battle of Springfield on June 23, 1780. While fighting, the Continentals ran low on paper wadding that was used to pack the power and ball in the musket.

Caldwell ran into the church, gathered hymnbooks published by English clergyman Isaac Watts and shouted "Give 'em Watts, boys!" as the soldiers tore up the pages to make wadding.

The painting by John Ward Dunsmore captioned "Battle of Springfield, New Jersey" depicts this historical moment. The original painting now hangs in Fraunces Tavern, in New York City, and a copy hangs in the Springfield Municipal Court.

Norelco? Been using one for years on my scalp, following a very short cut with clippers. Not on the road or rail, but it won't gash you... I haven't used a regular disposable in years.

While that was gross in this case the guy was traveling down to South Jersey after being released from a NYC homeless shelter. Was trying to clean himself up to meet his family. Supposedly being considerd for job at NJ Transit

Life is turning around for the homeless man who was shamed for shaving on an NJ Transit train earlier this month, with job interview offers and a Go-Fund Me campaign started to help him get on his feet.

Anthony Torres told the Washington Postthat he currently can't work because of a past work related injury and medical conditions, but that he is heartened by the potential offers.

One of those interview offers, Torres told the Washington Post, is from the agency that runs the trains that he rode during his embarrassing shave, NJ Transit.

Like I figured, the GoFundMe couple from South Jersey were in cahoots with the homeless guy who never gave her $20 for gas to get home.

The story seemed too good to be true.

The feel-good story about a New Jersey couple who started a GoFundMe campaign to help a homeless veteran who had helped a stranded driver was "predicated on a lie," Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced Thursday.

All three are charged with theft by deception over $75,000 and conspiracy.

I can't recall how many times I ended up in Manhattan after continually misreading the "Mid Town Tunnel" sign as "Mid Town Turn". Try explaining that on your expense acct. :notworthy:

Damn. Too bad that didn't happen two years ago. Jim Jarmusch would've worked that into the movie Paterson
