This seems noteworthy. Lots of good stuff in that piece for you guys, including this quote, which I have to say appeals to my extremely petty side: pic.twitter.com/7FZ7TrvThl— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) January 30, 2019
It is bitter for a player to have to drink from the Kupp of Rev? ........Shocked, I tell ya, Shocked.
as much as some people don't believe its true, the Revs have a terrible rep as being a place where management does not treat their players well. just another example of that. Sad thing is Burns and Brian will probably promoted again
I'm willing it to believe this is true. I think there may be a level of social media amplification here (for example, the recent Fagundez flareup which seemed go white hot in spite of what Diego said). I also think that winning can help with the day to day quality of life. The FO definitely needs a more enlightened attitude regarding the players that wish to move on.
It's the old "perception = reality" situation, unless you actually do something to change public opinion. It doesn't help when guys like Ron Waxman (who has been in MLS from the start) make comments from an agent's POV, but the Revs have always, always been totally tone-deaf when it comes to managing their own self image. You know that they'd be all over a PR crisis with the Patriots, denying, clarifying, spin-doctoring whatever was needed to change a negative public perception. But with the Revs, nah, no one even pays attention to them, so who cares! Case in point, with Fagundez, they should have said something like "Diego is a fantastic player and a key part of the team, and of course we want him to spend his whole career here. We realize players are presented with opportunities to move abroad, but we will not sell a player unless we receive a worthwhile offer. Nacional has not made an offer significant enough for us to consider." But the Kremlin Politburo keeps silent, letting people draw their own conclusions. Given their track record, can you really fault people for assuming the worst?
They had a "Media" person who would tweet that soccer is "boring" and was more excited about her new pots and pans set than she was about a Revs victory. I still say they should hire Ray Hudson as their "community liaison. Let him be the public spokesman for the team,a nd the amount of media exposure will explode. Of course, "serious" news should go through official channels, but he woudl be a gold mine: "They joost saynd thess Spanesh pleyur, Carols Gell, he's faan-taaaaasteck! He was at Aston Vella and he wass abso-luuuut-leh maah-jeck! Yuh gut ta coom oot ta Fox-bruh an see hem thess year, yu wooon't be dess-appointed, I guarantee it!"
Yes. Two wrongs don't make a right. Yeah, good point. They stayed silent and took a PR beating over it. Only now do we find out that Nacional was looking for a free transfer and never really made a formal offer. It also left Diego (and his agent/father) in an awkward position. The Rev paranoia really needs to go. People will be a lot more understanding if you talk to them about what everyone knows is going on (I experienced this first-hand on the red line this morning ).
What better way to camouflage your mediocrity from any unwanted attention that might serve to impact or change the said mediocrity?
Absolutely. But he who laughs last, laughs best. On the other hand, a stitch in time really does save nine, and no matter how much you lead that horse to water, you still might not be able to get him to drink!
Since this is the Burns thread, you left out the most important one: A penny saved is a penny earned!
The Revs FO doesn't leak, from what I gather. There's a Burns skill for ya. OK, Praise Hour is over. I got nothing else.
If you made the thread, "Mike Burns is bad at his job but we'll have a SSS in 12-24 Months," we'd be on LXVI...
Mike Burns has to have a copy of the video from the Orchids of Asia Day Spa. It's the only explanation at this point.
...... My faith in the Revolution broke some time ago...... My faith in there being any path, in any foreseeable future, to a team that is worth caring for is more recently broken. The whole enterprise is a sorry mess, from top to bottom.
