I'd say fire his ass but what's the point? We want him gone, the players want him gone as evidenced by the play on the field but as long as the powers that be want him we're stuck with Beerholder.
Incompetent manager hired by an incompetent/corrupt fed. I'm sure he and they will say it's just part of the process though. Similar scam they sold w/ Klinsmann. Subsequent to which they tried to save with an unimaginative/outdated hire. Then stayed in power with a sham democratic process to pacify the masses.
Sampson got his team in the World Cup with a bunch of amateurs. This is by far the worst coach the US has ever had.
I thought they played pretty well I mean you start a team with boyd, zimmerman, zardes, and trapp....and only lose 3-0 I think that is basically a win. GGG says tonight was progress so he is clearly thinking the same thing lol. What people need to keep in mind is the us doesn't have to beat mexico to make the world cup. Other concacaf teams are down this cycle those are the teams they need to beat.
Honestly, best thing he can do. USSF main goal is just to make the WC and call it a day. With Netherlands, Dest at least has a chance to win the WC with the talent they have.
GUYS WE'RE MAKING PROGRESS! IT'S JUST NOT CONVENIENT NARRATIVE, YOU SEE! “We’re making progress - that’s not going to be your (the media’s) narrative but it is internally.” - Gregg Berhalter postgame #USAvMEX #USMNT— Glenn Crooks (@GlennCrooks) September 7, 2019
But she had a LOT of talent to work with. On the men's side we have three to five decent players and a LOT of placeholders. I do not know what she could do with the low/no talent group we have. Of course it would be hard to believe she would do worse. She has more balls than anyone else being disused for the top spot.
At least we'll embarrass ourselves in front of the entire world in 2026. That should hopefully kill off all interest in the sport in this country if the 2022 campaign doesn't do it by then.
Well, he really much more has a chance to watch other players win the WC, but he could get some U-little caps to tell his grandkids about...
Better players would be great. But it is very hard to win with no ACM, no holding B2B and no deeplying playmaker. I guess Wes was supposed to #10, but he ain't that - not at this level. CP is always going to get swarmed if the guys around him are not creative attacking threats. We don't have a maestro like we really need, but there are guys who can play an AM game. Heck, Fabio J is playing at BMG. Put CP central, put Fabio in the CP role, or put Lletget there. At least he hit the single dangerous pass we played all night. We have no-one who can or will carry the ball. You can't play without at least one guy who can step up and control the game for more than 12 seconds.
I don't see Panama or Costa Rica complaining about their pool. That's a poor excuse and is defeatist. I hate that American soccer fans have that mindset. Teams have won with great tactical performances and lesser talent.
This is how the Berhalter defense starts. Question: if our pool is subpar, why are we implementing a system that relies upon technical excellence to control possession? How does this system make our difference makers better? The whole concept of “well, it’s the players” is absolute trash.
Our talent isn't THAT bad. Every player on the roster plays week in and week out against opposition superior to most of the CONCACAF teams we've struggled against, and the ones in Europe are used to a much higher speed of play. They play more quickly and decisively with their clubs, and make fewer stupid mistakes, than they do with the USMNT. All our players know how to play a disciplined, organized defense -- we should be able to trot out eleven random American USL players and do that. The problem is a coach who acts like a club coach and tries to implement a rigid system that no team is capable of putting together in 3 days of training, and that rigid system happens to misuse half of the players in the lineup. At this point I'd rather bring back Sarachan than keep Berhalter. At least Sarachan did the obvious: use a fairly common tactical setup and put most of the players in their best positions. The possession and defense were both better, with largely the same players, when Sarachan was interim coach.
