I hate the attitudes of some of teh Schalke players (like Lincoln, Kuranyi, Ailton) of the past few years. I didn't like them before but now I hate them even more than Bayern... they are now #2 behind the Yankees

Schalke is my club's natural rival and it's hard for me to say that. Schalke has never benefitted from blatant favoritism or gotten away with openly breaking rules.......

I'm a bit young and have not covered the Bundesliga as long as you have, and thus I guess I can't say I can be as mad as you are about that.

But the vibe I'm getting from Schalke is all bad now. I think they are becoming classless. But thats just me talking.

Imagine Hertha cheating and being favored so much it disgusts you and you will know the feeling I had when I knew I had to get away from Bayern.

They are only trying to beat Bayern at their own game. And they haven't broken any transfer rules yet. However, it is rumored they tampered with Meira.

    Nothing proven though.

Red Sox fans and Dortmund fans have a lot in common...we should have a fan relationship. :D

Honestly, while unrealistic, that would be COOL...admit it! :D

I would love that. But we are getting into stuff that should be on the Dortmund sub-forum.......

from Kicker online - an article from Jupp Derwall
    http://kicker.de/content/news/artik...liga=1&saison=2005/06&spieltag=2&gruppe=17974

    the highlights

    - I hope we never see Wörns or Hamann in the national team again

    - Ballack can't carry this team forever

    - From a technical standpoint Germany and Holland were worlds apart

    - Klinsmann has accomplished a lot and will be smarter after the Holland game

    - Goalkeeper rotation: has never existed, which doesn't mean it is bad. But what is its purpose. He will have to make a decision by early next year, but for whom? Lehmann hasn't improved but Kahn has gotten worse.

Hamann yeah, but Wörns in Top Shape?
RIght ... we need a good backup

    Hmm we never had "Primadonnas"
Aus Fehlern lernt man (You learn from errors)
(Kahn literally sux .. he imho belongs to the list above (Hamann and if it has to be wörns)

I can't agree. On Woerns, Germany isn't deep at center back and you don't want to go into a World Cup with no experience at that position. Seeing that Metzelder is sucking more than Jenna Jameson right now, Woerns might be the only alternative to give that back line some real international experience.

Agree. But I think he'll have loads of help from Podoloski, Kuranyi and even Frings.

    Completely agree.

Completely agree. Germany will benefit from it and give Holland a better match overall the next time.

Partially agree. The problem I have with this is that Lehmann wasn't ever as bad as he was made out to be and Kahn wasn't as good as he was made out to be.

I also can't agree with my BVB colleague that Kahn "sucks". No way.

My problem with him is that I don't think he's as good as the press and many of his fans try to make him out to be.

However, I couldn't blame Klinsmann for picking either one right now. I feel Lehmann is better, but freely admit I'm biased toward him.

That being said, I honestly cannot understand how anyone can see the latest performances of both men and say Kahn is better. I honestly cannot.

I've gotten to the point that I don't care who Klinsmann chooses. I just hope whomever he chooses doesn't hurt the team.

My problem with the goalkeeper rotation is that recently Klinsmann's quotes indicate more and more that Kahn will be #1 and I don't see how he can decide that right now seeing that Lehmann is playing great right now whereas he made many errors for Arsenal back then when Klinsmann said the competition was wide open??

Getting back to the starting 11 topic ;)

Since the central defensive position is a major weakness, and the left side is in trouble until Lahm comes back, perhaps a 3-5-2 is the way to go.

GK - Kahn or Lehmann -
it's a toss up as far as I'm concerned. Both are pretty solid, but neither is overwhelmingly great.

    Back 3 - Friedrich / Woerns / Mertesacker -
Friedrich is solid and consistent, Mertesacker looks like a solid, cool-under-pressure younster with real talent, and Woerns is still pretty solid and brings tons of experience. Huth and Hinkel and perhaps Farenhorst can back up.

Midfield - Schneider (right side) / Ernst (left side)/ Kehl (defensive mid), Frings (other defensive mid - the back needs help ;) ), Ballack (attacking mid).
Of course, Schweinstieger and Deisler would be the mercurial super subs - Schweini could play left or central, and Deisler right or central. Borowski could be the solid back up at defensive mid. Hitzilsperger could back up on the left or center.

    Forwards - Poldolski / Asamoah
Kuranyi and Klose would be as good. Frankly, this is a toss up. You could put in any combination of these four, and they would all be equally mediocre. Only Poldolski looks to be the phenom with the tremendous potential to be a star, but he is still young and unproven. I went with Poldolski and Asamoah because I think these two are the superior althetes with better speed. As I said, Poldoski is young phenom, and I've always liked Asamoah's enthusiasm, strength, speed, and pretty good skill. Kuranyi can be a crafty player that can score, but he's both slow and inconsistent. Klose is very good in the air, and decent with everything else.

If Klinsmann sticks with the 4-4-2 (which I'm sure he will), I would go with the following:

    Kahn
    Friedrich / Mertesacker / Woerns / Ernst
    Schneider / Frings / Ballack / Schweinsteiger
    Poldolski / Asamoah
