Isn't this pretty much exactly what those who wanted him out were asking for? I mean, everyone knew he was under contract, and cancelling a contract because "we want to move in a different direction" usually means you're going to pay off the contract. If they'd had specfic performance requirements and he had failed to meet those, they probably would have gotten off more cheaply. But I'd suggest that this story is really just another version of the old joke: "Why does a divorce cost so much?" "Because it's worth it."
Prob the case, though I was always impressed that Klinsmann, as a player, supposedly negotiated all his own contracts. Correct? He's many terrible things but not stupid.
Klinsmann famously was reported to have shown up at his German NT contract negotiations with a personal attorney, a tax attorney, and an accountant. He had bonus clauses in his German NT contract that the DFB was not concerned about because they thought there was zero chance in hell that those clauses would be triggered. Bonus for 3rd place at the World Cup? Sure why not, we could not even get out of the group at Euro 2004.
Don't care much about it anymore, but Shep Messing just pulled one out of his ass that I've never heard before while I was watching the RBNY match tonight. Matt Doyle tweeted about it. Before the Belgium match, up until 30 minutes prior to kickoff, he was going to bench Tim Howard. This is one hell of a story from Shep Messing (volume up). Also, fwiw I agree w/ @CangyManMSG pic.twitter.com/Ky9wce853y— Matthew Doyle (@MattDoyle76) June 2, 2019
What if, and this is totally speculation of course, Timmy voiced his disbelief/anger at the decision to leave LD off the roster immediately after it was released? And what if Timmy never let it go... even during the WC. For arguments sake, let’s say after a totally anemic offensive output against Germany (Match day 3), JK unloaded on the team and questioned the leaders (Bradley, Duece, Howard) why they “looked so incapable?”. And, HUGE what if, Timmy’s reply was something like “we aren’t the ones who left our best player at home!”. Again, not saying I know anything, but I bet that kind of dissent would have landed Timmy in JK’s dog house. I really wish I could share some of the conversations I’ve had with my boy who played for the MNT. Some of the shit I’ve heard is just mind blowing and, mostly, infuriating when it comes to JK and Sunil.
We could have been rid of him sooner and ended the Land debate as well as put his apologists to the sword
jesus christ, are you kidding? oh my god........that would have been like mike tyson beating up an infant if true.
I have to see a link for that. I mean, South Korea came in 4th playing at home. I can’t Believe the German fed thought coming in 3rd AT HOME was some ridiculous moon shot.
Tim wasn’t shy about being unhappy with Landon’s omission. It was written all over his face when Klinsmann announced the team to the final players, as shown in the documentary. He also made some comments on it.
Nah. USSF would have had to find 12 million to pay him not to coach. He just signed an extension. FWIW, I agree that benching Beckerman was a mistake given how good he was in the first three games, but at the same time, Klinsmann saw talent in Beckerman that Bradley didn't so I have to get him SOME credit. Imagine Beckerman replacing Clark in South Africa.
