With the increased traffic on the Brazil boards and the World Cup coming up I want to make sure there is a place for posters, both experienced and newbie, to consult the rules of the board and to find answers to common questions without having to add new topics to a board that will surely be very cluttered during the World Cup. Sobre o uso de português A maior parte dos usuários de bigsoccer provem dos Estados Unidos e a maior parte dos que são residentes de outros países evidentemente fala inglês. Alguns fóros têm um espaço ou sub-fóro dedicado a discussões no idioma local. No fóro brasileiro, incentivamos todos a falar inglês para promover maior participação, mas também convidamos todos os brasileiros e outros que falam português a abrirem threads em português - mas não esqueça que uma discussão em inglês atrairá um público maior neste site. É possível que no futuro seja criado um sub-fóro em português. Isso depende da quantidade de usuários que o pedirem e do número de visitas e posts indicando um interesse para tal sub-fóro. Questions about language While most bigsoccer posters speak or read English, posters are allowed to use Portuguese. As long as there is only one forum for Brazilian soccer and no further sub-forums (aside from NSR) we encourage people to keep posting in English when a thread begins in English so as to avoid confusion. It is theoretically possible that a sub-forum could be created for posting in Portuguese but this would depend on a number of factors including the amount of traffic expected and the number of users who post in Portuguese. If you are a native Portuguese speaker and have doubts about something you read in a post or the rules, do not hesitate to PM a moderator and ask in Portuguese. We will be happy to answer in our native language and clear up any confusion that you may have.
Re: Official Brazil Forum FAQ thread. Very important: Do not post spoilers! I cannot stress how important this rule is. While it is often discussed and there are certainly arguments towards abolishing the rule, it has held and it will be enforced during the World Cup. Spoilers are any indication of the result such as "Brazil 1x0 Croatia", or "Yessss!!! Brazil x Croatia result inside" Posters who violate this rule will be given yellow cards. This means you will not be able to start threads as long as you have the card. And remember - spoilers include titles such as "What a hat-trick by Lúcio!", "OMG I'm so relieved, what a tense game!" and so on. Anything that gives away the result or suggests the final outcome of the game is unacceptable, including using icons such as: or Instead, simply choose a neutral title such as: Brazil x Australia, First Round match [R] Always include the [R] tag. Also, avoid giving away results from different games in threads that. Now, this may seem silly to some, and especially to those in Brazil who have near-constant coverage of games on TV. But the rule is made for those who have to work, tape the game or watch replys later and want to keep the surprise. It's good netiquette and it's something that is done no matter how easy it might be to watch the game live. Yes, the easiest way to avoid spoiling a game is simply to avoid logging on. But many people make bigsoccer their homepage (I do for example) and the most recently updated threads are displayed on the homepage. People are not going to change their homepage just for that day to avoid one result. Similarly, if someone has seen two games already, for example, Brazil x Australia and France x Korea on Sunday the 18th, but had to tape Japan x Croatia, they should be able to visit the Brazil forum and discuss the game without having to worry about someone randomly posting: "OMG Japan won this morning" in a thread about Brazil x Australia. Spoilers within a thread should use the ["result"] tag (remove " for use) Here is an example: Japan x Croatia result follows: [result]Japan 1x1 Croatia, final[/result] The World Cup will be strictly moderated and the [R] rule will be observed. Re: Official Brazil Forum FAQ thread. Visiting other boards BigSoccer is a huge community, one of the largest web forums in the world. Most every country in the World Cup, if not all, has it's own dedicated forum with moderators and an active posting community. Don't hesitate to visit other boards, always remembering to follow the same basic rules everywhere on BigSoccer. Some forums are particularly strictly moderated, such as USMNT News and Analysis Of course, no forums will tolerate trolling. If you are unsure of what constitutes trolling, put yourself in the shoes of a regular poster in that forum. In the Argentina forum, posts such as "Damn, I can't believe you lost 4x1!" especially by a Brazilian, would be regarded as trolling. Just as I and the other moderators would consider a similar post here, after a Brazil loss, to be trolling. When you do post in other forums, make sure you are adding something to the discussion. Something like "I was surprised we won 4x1, but frankly your defense wasn't all that bad..." followed by actual sensible commentary on the game would be much better. The same applies to World Cup sub-forums. We are in Group A and the forum for Group A is a home for all 4 teams and for all posters who want to talk about the Group A games and scenarios. Do not think of it as a second Brazil forum where you can say "Brazil will win, we are the best" all the time. (Also, World Cup forums will be strictly moderated). That doesn't mean anything World Cup related, but anything World Cup 2014 related that doesn't rightly belong in a specific sub-forum. Group Play – For discussion of group play match-ups. Country specific discussions (lineups, strategy, call-up news, etc.) should take place on the country specific boards. See below. Fans and Travel – For travel and “light” fan focused discussions. World Rivalries – Tell the other guys what you really think of their teams. Anything goes ... Well, anything within the TOS, that is. Americas - CONMEBOL and CONCACAF and country forums. Not Soccer Related - In case you're bored. Or just don't like soccer (what are you doing here? ) Brazil - NSR – A sub-forum within the Brazil forum for all things Brazil, but not soccer.

The World Cup is less than a year away so I am updating this thread to remind all users to read it and to go over some rules for the forum that are particularly important as we get busier and busier. Please review the above posts as well as the basic player topic thread. As a reminder the main section of the Brazil forums focuses on the national team. Star players also have threads here. Some threads don't really fit in a specific sub-forum but are welcome here. Posters are always encouraged to suggest sub-forums - they can only be opened though if we convince admins that they will see traffic. Most importantly we will start taking a zero tolerance approach to posts that need to be cleaned up. We want the Brazil national team threads in particular to be free of clutter and as such we will adopt an approach similar to US N&A and other forums besides bigsoccer.com What does this mean? It means that posters should not reply to trolls, nor should they reply to insults directed at them. I know many of you do not like reporting posts and prefer to stand up for yourselves, but that's not how things work on this forum so please - report a post, do not make the thread worse by replying to it. We expect that once qualifying is over and especially once the World Cup is within sight, this forum will see lots of visitors. Please welcome them but also help us keep the discussion here not only civil and polite but of a high quality.

Do not repeat the same thing over and over. If you made your point in an earlier post and someone disagreed or someone else joined the thread later, that's not an excuse to post the same thing again. Do not make excessively long posts. This format does not go well with that. Be succint. This includes quotes. If you have one line or two to say, don't quote 40 lines ahead of it. Edit quotes if you absolutely need them for your short post. Finally, I can't say it enough, reports bad posts, don't reply to them.

These are not rules but they are pieces of advice that can make threads in general and your posts in particular more readable. First: READ THE THREAD Do not post in a thread without reading other replies first. If you feel a thread is too long to read in its entirety do a search. Are you wondering why Ronaldinho didn’t make Brazil’s final 23? Click on a thread you might ask this in but read the thread instead of asking. If it’s too long click on “search this thread” and type in Ronaldinho. Want to find a stream for a game? Use the search function. If you cannot find an answer to your question, or if the news you are about to post has not been covered, then by all means post it! Reading or searching through a thread first makes sure that your contribution to the thread is not redundant. Keep in mind that sticking to this also means that less posts will be made in some cases, making threads more readable. Only post if you’re adding something new to the thread. While in-match threads are one possible exception to this rule, this can be applied to all other threads. If you want to say thank you, send the poster a PM. If you want to say “I agree” or “I disagree” don’t leave it at that – say why. If you’ve already said you agree/disagree and explained why, don’t post to say the same thing, even if you’re frustrated by another poster’s reply. In short, forums are not intended as a venue for you to go back and forth in “Is too”, “Is not” style arguments with others. Every post should add something to the thread. Posting “you’re right”, “no way” and variations on those may not lead directly to infractions but are frowned upon. Only quote what you're replying to and do not write novel-length posts Do not QUOTE long posts when replying to someone. If you are replying to a specific point, edit the rest out. If you are replying to the thread in general do not use QUOTE, use reply or quick reply. Going off-topic is covered in the rules and is not allowed, but you should aim to make your post clear and concise and to avoid lengthy posts unless you know that it is appropriate for your subject (eg player profiles). Having said all this, use the report post button only for things that violate the rules. I cannot emphasize that enough! The above suggestions are intended to encourage better posting but will not be enforced as rules since they are general forum habits that will serve posters well on any internet forum but that might not apply for in game threads for example.
May 2014 Update for WC 2014 As the WC is nearly approaching, we'd like to empathize a couple rules that we will be enforcing during the WC. We also suggest reading the posts above for any questions about what is allowed and what isn't. For the most part, we are fairly lenient with our moderation, but we'd like to make some rules CLEAR: Stick to the topic indicated in the thread title - We will warn any members first if they go off topic. If they continue to go off topic, we will delete the post and issue warning points (accumulation can lead to a yellow card). No flaming or personal insults - Especially during the WC, there will be instances where disagreements occur and where trolls may try to get under your skin (we will handle them, please report). We do not take flaming or personal insults lightly. You will be warned with points for your first offense and subsequent offense will lead to a yellow card. No trolling - This is mostly directed to members who are not regulars at the forum. If you come by and post something like "Haha, Brazil sucks!", "Spain is the best. Brazil is awful!", etc., it'll be deemed as trolling. Remember, this is the BRAZIL forum. If any trolling occurs, remember also to report the post and DO NOT respond to the troller. Feel free to create new threads, but make sure they don't fit in with another topic - We know that sometimes this can be a little tricky, but in order to reduce clutter here, we ask you to use your best judgement when creating threads. Please look for another thread where your post can go to before creating a new one.
