It was quite a sensational goal though, you don't expect that from Kiessling, really a moment of magic...

As for Adler, I agree we should wait, but even I think Neuer is being touted too much early on, he's only had the #1 for a bit now. I think he's due to make a bad error soon.

I saw it. I was screaming my approval in the pub. I was also screaming, "It's about f#cking time!!" One of the guys I know who claims he went to school with Kiessling was in the pub too. He takes every opportunity to say, "See, see??!!"

And as I said, my answer was "it's about f#cking time!"

The problem with him is, he can never consistently show those "flashes of brilliance......."

Actually, Neuer has already convinced me, but it sure as hell took more than one match for him to do it. That kid is not only fast and instinctive, but so tactially aware. I'm amazed. Most keepers don't become as tactically aware as Neuer seems to be until their late 20's, some even their early 30s.

That's one of the reasons I always tell people goalkeeper is the only position on the pitch where an older player is almost always the better player.

Of course, the case with Neuer and Rost was definitely an exception.

The thing is, will Skibbe now allow Adler to challenge Butt? Knowing Skibbe, I don't think he will, but he will keep Adler in mind should any other opportunities come up.

Admittedly I've only watched him about 5-6 times so you maybe right about Neuer.

René ADLER is one of the most talented ‘keepers in Germany. He has great reactions, can organise the defence and is comfortable with the ball at his feet. He deserves the chance to show everybody how good he is.
    and he also looks cute:)

for those who did not watch the game

    report from web-site:

    http://www.bayer04.de/en/index2.htm

"It was just one of the countless shots Adler saved on an impressive Bundesliga debut. The goalkeeper played a major part in Bayer 04’s feat of taking all three points from the match in the Veltins-Arena.

Stefan Kießling, who came on as a substitute on 72 minutes made an excellent run in the dying minutes and claimed the only goal.

Michael Skibbe decided to send on a single striker in Sergej Barbarez to begin with and Tranquillo Barnetta replaced Andrej Voronin.

Leverkusen worked extremely hard in defence and made life hard for Schalke by closing the home side down in midfield."

    SKibbe said before the game:

Skibbe believes the tie will be “close” over both legs. “Small things will decide on which team progresses to the next round,” said Skibbe.

Skibbe wants his side to lay the foundations for a place in the quarter-finals in Lens and therefore he will look to similar tactics as in the last few games. “We want to keep things tight at the back and keep the opposition busy. And we obviously want to score one or two goals.”
