We all love Alessandrini, but the guy is made of glass. He has not been durable in the last two years.

I share your reservations on Chicharito, but I'm just as worried about our defense. Seattle lost almost all their attackers at one point last season, we almost (should have) beat them with 10 players, but their defense was great all year and that allowed them to stay in contention, beat LAFC and win MLS cup. Defense wins MLS cups, it's what we should all be really concerned about.

That’s not very many players considering what other teams do for their internationals. Also those players all received their green cards under Bruce.

PS Kamara achieved his green card with Columbus.

Be prepared to be disappointed. Five out of you six “needs” are for upgraded starters. I can’t imagine we have the cap space or the ability to get non-internationals in those spots.

Those were just off the top of my head. I think if you go back guys like Cien and Moreno also got green cards with LA.

You never know with older European keepers. They definitely needed an upgrade at GK. I hope this is their Culducini.

And Tyler Miller is out of contract. LAFC didn't paid him about $78k last year and I'd guess they didn't think he was worth much more. Should we be considering him?

Ciani was only with the club for 18 months. He was also rumored to be cut throughout his time with the Galaxy. Doubt they were spending the time resources to get the worst center back in the league a green card.

The only Moreno I can think of was the early 2000’s draft pick. If true, not a badge of honor for the clubs green card record.

I think he meant Mauricio Cienfuegos.

I used to think the Galaxy were on top of every competitive advantage they could pull off but I feel like that left with Tim Lieweke.

We had Gio for 3+ seasons and he never got his green card. Allesandrini played 3 seasons with us, no green card.

Thinking about the last 3 years, I can't really point to too many egregious examples because we haven't had many players for 3+ seasons. That's a bad side effect of rebuilding each year. Maybe I was too harsh in my original assessment of the FO on this issue.

This year, hopefully JDS, Rolf and (god forbid he stays) Jorgen can all get green cards.

I wouldn't count on it. Remember we kind of took a flyer on Cudicini since he had been a multi-season bench warmer for Tottenham when we got him (behind Friedel and later behind Friedel and Hugo Lloris). LAFC is getting a guy who I assume was starting last season for Feyenoord.

Good point about the lack of international spots being a big bottleneck.

The cap space I think could be worked around. Available payroll will likely go up with the new CBA and better defenders than Feltscher, Steres, Araujo, Bingham (and probably the aging Gonzalez) can be found for 200-350k with thorough and smart scouting.

This^^^ If we get him I expect Chicharito to be the least of our problems.

Yep, I was referring to Cienfeugos. Also agree the club hasn’t been the same since Leieweke – of course that sweeps under the rug Tim did a lot wrong (Sampson, Hernandez - the first one, Bo, et. al.,).

All that said I think trying to divine a team’s prowess with complicated immigration issues like Green Cards is a fool’s errand. There are so many complicated factors in obtaining permanent residence starting most importantly with the individual’s willingness to apply. The team can’t make a foreign player apply for a green card, and while it is a huge benefit to have your employer pay it’s sometimes not worth it unless there is an expectation of actually becoming a permanent resident. One of the rules with Green Cards is you have to come back to the United States at least once a year or you have to apply for a reentry permit and if you’re gone for more than 1 year you can lose your permanent status altogether. For someone like Romaine even Gio it’s entirely plausible he would fall foul of those restrictions. Why go through the hassle if it’s just going to be revoked?

We signed our Galaxy 2 keeper to a first team contract it seeems...

I can't say I watched much Galaxy 2 so not sure how likely he is to scratch out an MLS career. It's kinda cool he's been with the club since the U-13 level.

100% agree. This is the key thing. With Chicharito we will be able to get consistent scoring from our entire attack. His arrival can bring back a balance in scoring that this team hasn't seen since the days of Keane, Donovan and Beckham. That was a time when we had multiple attacking players that could rack up 10 or more goals between them while your superstar could get at least 20.
With Ibra you could put 2 or more guys on him and then hope that you can defend enough to keep the rest of the team contained. Ibra was so bloody awesome though that he couldn't be contained and could carry the team on his back. With Chicharito that necessity should change immediately.

After watching these highlight reels, I am officially really excited.
I can't wait until this signing is officially announced.
Tiki Taco is about to return to this team.
Chicharito, Pavon, Kljestan, Katai, Jona, Llegett, and Alverez are going to be fun to watch.

I'm glad about Lopez's signing. Very talented goalkeeper with great reflexes, who's rewarded after a lot of years in the organization.

I'm speaking about long-term but I think he can be our starter one day.

Anyway, this signing probably validates my theory that our GK chart next year will be 1. Bingham, 2. Vom Steeg, 3. Lopez.

All that said, that doesn’t stop Atlanta from getting Barco a green card; even though it’s no secret that he might be sold as soon as this summer.

All your referenced players are all from a bygone era, and I don’t think it’s coincidence that the Galaxy haven’t been able to get a Galaxy player their green card since Bruce has been here.

I bet the deal is done already. They are delaying the announcement for our marketing team to fly out and film some announcement signing video like we did with Zlatan and Pavon.

I am sure that is what's happening at this point. They want to get him in a uniform and make a commercial and the whole nine. The marketing team is about to milk this cow good.
