Bruce's head shake kills me. Porter is like, "That's right That's right I'm bad!!" Bruce is like Sam Jackson, you can almost hear him cursing in his head like, "M*thaf@$a"
Just to recap today’s press event: Zlatan was there. Ola was there. Romaine was there. Jona was there. Gio was not there.
THe fact that he said this gives me real hope that his brother is out of here. I can't see Gio staying in LA after this season especially when Bruce returns. Zlatlan Speaks Alessandrini Speaks Klein Speaks
I don't understand why so many people assume that Greg Berhalter would leave a Columbus which has new (and hopefully) better ownership and team that he has built to his desires for the Galaxy. He has 5 years of history there which more than equal to his 3 years as a player (1 as a player coach with the Galaxy). Can someone explain the draw (I assume its more than LA weather with its much higher cost of living).
Sources: The LA Galaxy have "serious interest" in hiring Mexico director of national teams Dennis te Kloese as head of soccer operations. The sources also indicated it's highly unlikely that Bruce Arena will be hired in that role. https://t.co/s5jFXxyXtH— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) November 7, 2018
If this comes to fruition our academies are going to get a huge jumpstart. Not to mention, he’s got a solid track record of hiring successful coaches in MLS. Bruce is a soccer coach first and foremost. He had a ton of success as a GM when MLS was a bit different. I don’t know if he has the overall progressive vision for everything that’s required of the position these days. However I do hope that they bring back Bruce in an advisory role to the FO. Jerry West found tons of success doing that for the Warriors and now in the same capacity for the Clippers.
I think it signals that the Galaxy find that market very important. However, perhaps they’ll try and appeal to it not with a current expensive NT player like Gio, but by widening the search for academy players, that will certainly include Mexican Americans, that perhaps will one day go on to represent the MNT first team.
Based on just the info in that article the Kloese guy sounds exactly like what the Galaxy need: a successful, ambitious soccer executive with a track record of scouting, recruiting and developing talent. Scouting personnel is everything and we have been poor at it for a long time. Maybe this guy could turn that around. Plus I like the way the Dutch play. I also was happy to read that Klein's plan is for the new GM to find and hire a new coach. If Klein is willing to delegate all soccer related decisions to better soccer minds and also hires a top notch GM then the Galaxy might have a bright future sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed!
From everything I heard, Vagenas was a real cancer behind the scenes and was at the heart of the power struggles. A smart exec doesn't have to be knowledgeable and good at everything; they just have to know how to surround themself with people that are. If Klein is smart and can put his ego aside enough to step aside and let someone else take the lead and limelight, he can be good president. I get the impression Klein would be more than happy to do that. Vagenas, apparently, had the mindset that he was smarter / better than everyone else and could not release control. But we'll see.
I don’t know he was at Chivas when they weren’t very good, then at ChivasUSA when they were even worse.
What the twittersphere is saying is that te Kloese is directly responsible for the recent Mexico YNT that have been extremely good. I remember hearing an interview with te Kloese about a year ago on a podcast. I think he had a big impact on Tigres' big jump into the elite team they are now. Just the fact we've reportedly looked into him is a sign that Klein is at least trying to keep up the appearance of doing a good job.
Wet dream is to hire te Kloese and Curtis to run the soccer operations (don't know who would outrank who) and hire Hugo Perez as academy director. Like Klein said we need a team of people and those are a couple good minds that I think can rebuild the whole organization and build for the long haul.
