In my opinion, he has always been too limited of a player to be an international. In other news related to the Klinsmann rumour, it looks like he might be bringing his old pal Guido Buchwald as his assistant and his link-up man to Japanese football (link). If that's the case, it would definitely be good news because Guido has been an Urawa Red both as a player and as a manager. Buchwald led Urawa to 4 trophies in 3 seasons as their manager, especially the J-League title in 2006 and 2 Emperor's Cups to cap a 59.18% victory ratio. By the time Guido left Urawa, the foundations were laid for them to win the AFC Chmpions League on the following year.
i’m sure gotoku will change his mind in a few years. he’s never really played well for the national team though.
About Sakai, I just think he wants to focus on his career club. He's the captain at SV Hamburg and the team was just relegated for their first time-ever. He needs to be there. About the next coach: Dragan Stojkovic for me, thanks. No Wenger, no Klinsmann. I like Queiroz, but I don't see him leaving Iran.
Harsh to call him a clown when you don't know his reasoning. Jakarta retired all together from football at 29. Everyone is different
I think Gotoku will be back. He said that he’s been working toward the goal of winning a regular position in the NT for years, but stagnated instead of improving as a result of slogging through relegation battles year after year in an atrocious HSV team. I still don’t believe the Klinsmann reports, but he’d definitely call up Gotoku, as Jürgen loves German-Americans playing in BL2. He was probably on the USMNT’s scouting radar at some point.
The FA held a press conference upon the team’s return to Japan, whereupon Tashima confirmed that Nishino’s term as manager will conclude at the end of July.
Before you rush to ridicule Gotoku it might be insightful to read this short piece, by one of Japan's best football analysts/writers. https://news.yahoo.co.jp/byline/kawajiyoshiyuki/20180705-00088192/
I don't know. I don't really need a hyper manager nervously walking up and down the technical area. That just feels un- Japanese. Plus he has just been exposed as a bald fraud in this world cup.
I wanna se Nagatomo in WC 2022. He was so great. Hope he can keep it up, like he was born again in this WC.
Honestly speaking, except for his reign at Germany at the 2006 WC, he never really did great anywhere else imo. He was not good at Bayern and decent for the US. From what others have said about him, he is a pretty stubborn and hard to work with.
I think he would be great as an assistant or head of youth development because he discovered many players for the USA. He what failed in was that he's not the best with tactics.
Pierre Littbarski shares his take on the World Cup so far with Jon Kabira, as well as the rumors surrounding Japan and his ex-teammate Klinsmann. Litti speaks English in this interview, but slips into Japanese when he gets excited, lol. Littbarski says that Klinsmann expressed strong interest in the Japan job when they spoke on the phone 3 weeks ago.
He has a good relationship with Hidetoshi Nakata; coaching him at Parma, and recently he gave him the chance to manage some of Galatasray's coaching session (when Prandellli was the head coach there in 2014).
JNT overperformed, the defence overperformed, Yoshida has no reason to blame himself or to cry about. It seems him and Shoji were the most devastated after the defeat, there's any Gen interview out there?
