It's on Sigi, but could another coach have reasonably done better in a single off-season? For instance, Sigi tried to get Ousted at GK but couldn't make it happen. Arena was able to revolutionize the backline using players (Franklin, Omar and AJ) picked up in Superdraft and I feel those days are over. For perspective, other players picked up in those draft years include Brek Shea, Matt Besler, Geoff Cameron, Chris Pontius, Sam Cronin, and Stefan Frei, guys who went on to be solid to great MLS players almost right away. Maybe Hilliard-Arce is of that caliber; I think most of us wouldn't mind seeing him get another shot.
.@AlexiLalas on the State of The Union podcast says LA Galaxy hold Hamburg’s Bobby Wood’s rights.— MLS Transfers (@MLSTransfers) May 22, 2018 We don't need Wood but at least someone will have to give up something if they really want to sign him.
Pretty sure Bobby Wood said he didn't want to come to MLS. Pretty sure Hamburg got relegated, so maybe he's changed his mind. He'd probably be a high TAM/Low DP player so I'm sure we can get a good chunk of change. Or we can just trade the rights for Bobby Wood if they take Gio off our hands as well. Seems fair.
Honestly I'd give up Gio and Zlatan and bring in Bobby Wood. Someone to put in an honest day's work. Maybe Zlatan will work his way back into my good graces like Beckham did. One can hope.
The real question is whether Bobby Wood is better than Kamara. Our roster is best suited to playing with 3 in the midfield and 1 forward up top and 2 wide players. Bringing in another forward is only going to cause more of the same problems Granted I'd give up Gio for a box of half eaten stale donuts, but I think we're better off getting as much money for Bobby Woods rights and bringing in either a fullback or CB that will command the back line. (Cough cough Omar).
William Yarborough (probably spelling that wrong) wants to leave Mexico and come to MLS. I know nothing about him. Would he be a big upgrade over Bingham?
But if we are going with one striker, we do need more than one, even if they aren't on the field at the same time. Injuries/callups/etc.
Since he plays at Leon (with Landon) I've watched him a little bit this season. He looked solid to me, I'd take him over Bingham.
Geoff Cameron also wanting to come back this summer from Stoke, who has been relegated. We could sure use him. But hearing he wants DP money.....
Trade Gio, do whatever it takes to get Cameron. Probably the single most important move we could make.
I’d take a hard pass of Cameron. I know a single player isn’t responsible for a team, but Stoke coughed up 68 goals last season and finished a meager 2 points above a team that was relegated months ago. The few games I saw of his he was absolutely torched as well. He also seems to have an overinflated opinion of himself which is one thing if you’ve got the resume to back it up, but not a good look when you’re biggest personal accolade was Houston’s Player of the Year and your biggest team accomplishment is losing the 2011 MLS Cup Final.
I have not seen him play for years, so thank you for the analysis. If we want any hope of saving the season we definitely have to hit it out of the park with our midseason defensive pick up. We can’t screw it up, yet again.
To be fair he it was Harry Kane and Dele Ali doing the torching … I’m not sure many in MLS wouldn’t suffer the same fate. His overestimation of his talents rubs me the wrong way (don’t like it with Zlatan either, but at least he has reason to be impressed with himself, current situation aside). I probably don’t have the most objective opinion of him.
Well, scratch that. http://www.goal.com/en-ae/news/inie...ter-agreeing-japan/1ab04o9nkk73f1aeat72a0qmeo FRICK!
From a PR standpoint, if you have to sell one or both of the Dos Santos brothers to pick up a defender, it would be better to buy Omar Gonzalez than Geoff Cameron. Not sure either would be the most cost-effective acquisition though.
No. No more old European players. I want players that I know give a shit about playing well here and aren't going to suddenly realise that the travel and artificial turf are taking too much of a toll on their aging knees.
Zlatan clocks in at #25 in the top 100 most famous athletes. Jona was … okay, but Gio was … http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/23519390/espn-world-fame-100-2018 #beatingadeadhorse
Sure, but it wasn't like other MLS teams were selling Zlatan Galaxy jerseys at their stadium... Oh wait....
