U17 training camp (May 28~31) members: http://www.jfa.jp/attachment/5b03e345-fff8-42e0-8801-7bb1d3093d95/20180522_u17w_member.pdf I have not been familiar with these members, but Ohsawa Haruka and Yoshizumi Warai often appear in Nadeshiko League this season and Tanaka Tomoko scored at the last game.
I am not much familiar either, but I can say that most of the JFA members have already scored in this season (Chihiro Tomioka, Reina Shirowa) and one has even scored two (Mai Kadowaki, who scored her second this week-end too).
Manchester United appointing Casey Stoney would be a very smart move | Suzanne Wrack | Football | The Guardian Included in this piece is an article about improving women's prospects in football....hashtag ....what if
Roster for New Zealand (10th June) GK Ikeda, Yamashita, Hirao DF Sameshima, Ariyoshi, Utsugi, Kumagai, Takagi, Miyake, Shimizu, Ichise MF Haji, Sakaguchi Moeno, Nakajima, Naomoto, Sumida, Hasegawa, Nagano FW Kawasumi, Sugasawa, Iwabuchi, Tanaka, Masuya Naomoto, Sakaguchi Moeno and Nagano as playmakers - Sakaguchi Mizuho resting (or rather left to work in Beleza meanwhile)
Absolutely....great news The plot thickens.....Ultra World Soccer Tweet.....out for 6 to 8 months ...knee injury Do you know of any TV coverage?
Fuka Nagano is indeed something that was expected and wished by about.... everyone on this thread, I guess. Although maybe not so soon. She's still young, but I guess it's worth integrating her into the Senior Team already, in the case she would look so good at Under-20 WWC to earn a place in the Senior Team for WWC 2019. I anyway wonder how is she faring in South Korean league (we don't get many updates from there) and if Takakura sent any observers to get a feeling of how she is playing right now. A little surprised by Moeno Sakaguchi: she's doing very good in Nadeshiko League, but I had the impression that her emergency call for Asian Cup would have remained a one-of, since Takakura hadn't given even a single minute of playing time to her at that tournament. Madoka Haji gets back, despite her team, Vegalta, having abysmal performances in the league so far. Let's see if her passing-game can be as neat as in some of her previous matches with NT: I anyway notice that, appropriately, she is now listed as MF and not as FW. Sakaguchi (Mizuho)'s absence (and injury) are quite worrying, since we saw at Asian Cup that she's a player that can always save our day, no matter how bad she had played until that moment. 6 to 8 months are a lot: will she recover in time to be in full form for WWC? I can't believe it was a technical choice: you don't leave out the hero of last Asian Cup. As strange as it can seem, I have to believe she had committments with her club who didn't want to release her (is this an official FIFA date? ), although it's true that 1.FFC Frankfurt don't have much left to ask from this season actually. Maybe, she's just busy in finding some new home, different from Frankfurt? Finally, I have to notice that Hirao keeps her place (is Takakura already set up with this trio for the World Cup?) and that, at the moment, there are no signs of other calls from Nojima, apart from usual Takagi.
I had the same doubt about FIFA date, but then I saw Kumagai and we all know how stricts are in Lyon with that thing. Maybe she is slightly injury or something. Or maybe she is searching a new team, with all respect to Frankfurt she deserves more than that team right now.
Man Utd. ? It would for certain make Manchester Nadeshiko quite happy (or even very happy as I get the feeling that he's more United than City fan )
Well spotted eagle eyes Hope she comes to NW England Although I am not a native of Manchester (but I have lived here for 32 years) I do lean toward the red side of the city because a relative played for Man Utd. I would gladly travel most anywhere (except London) if there was a chance of watching Kumi every week
Quite worrying you say.....I would go so far as to say it's more like the end of the world. My small green flatmate on the left hasn't stopped weeping all day.
This just in: 「完治を目指してほしいです。引退後に身体が動かない、お酒を飲めないといった影響を残した、元日本女子代表選手は何人もいます。 なでしこジャパンにとっては重要な選手。一気に若い世代に更新されるかもしれませんね。」 I read something about "retirement". What's going on?! https://www.sponichi.co.jp/soccer/news/2018/05/23/kiji/20180523s00002014218000c.html
Your link does not have the quote above. Without context the quote above does not make a lot of sense. Basically Sakaguchi injured her anterior cruciate ligament on her right knee and it will take about six to eight months for it to recover. This means she will not return until next year. The injury happened during the match against Albirex. This is horrible for Sakaguchi whom I believe still has a lot to offer Nadeshiko. But now Nadeshiko need some other players to step up and take her place.
This is indeed awful and worse than I thought. Sakaguchi, if I am not wrong had another serious injury in her career in the past (another ACL if I am not wrong), before 2011, when she had tried to play in the USA, as Sawa and Miyama were doing at the time, but she had been stopped by her injury the same way as it happened to Kawamura recently (but the club hadn't waited for her recovery and had just waived her; after that, she never tried to go overseas again and she had her whole career in Japan). We have seen other players have a record-recovery from an ACL before a big tournament (Maruyama comes to mind before Olympics 2012), but anyway it was difficult to have them back at their 100%, and it will be moreso at Mizuho's age... Thus, maybe, Fuka Nagano's call (despite her young age)?
It will be difficult but I believe she has the dedication and determination (subject to there being no complications in her recovery) to return to her midfield role in plenty of time for next years WWC. In the meantime current squad members should look upon it as an opportunity to demonstrate if they are up to filling this woman's boots. I for one will look forward to the return to the field of play of my idol of many many years. Get well soon Sakaguchi san.
Thanks for explaining! I'm trying to find the post i got it from it was a community on Facebook. I guess it was the poster's own commentary and not really something from the article. He or she is probably afraid she'll retire out of frustration with her injury and the timing of it.
Mid-week games for NWSL: - Chicago Red Stars didn't play. - North Carolina Courage won by 3-4 an away game in Orlando. - Seattle Reign lost an away game in Houston by 2-1 in injury time. Naho played until 64', Ustugi was on the pitch for the full game. Reign retain 2nd plave anyway. Highlights:
And what about Saki? Another time Women's champions league winner. I didn't watch the match, but it had to be very exciting. 0-0 at 90 minutes. Then in ET Popp scores first at 93, then Saki was subbed at 95 and Popp was double yellow at 96, then Lyon won 1-4. Congratulations to our dear Saki
I watched most of the game and actually it was Harder and not Popp who scored for Wolfsburg. The extra-time was as much exciting as the regular time was a little boring. OL, anyway, dominated the whole game, and could have scored a goal in regular time, but without goal-line technology it's not sure that the shot had passed the line. Shanice Van de Sanden, Saki's sub in extra-time, assisted 3 out of 4 Lyon's goals, and was in general devastating on the right-side (she was on the same levels she had reched for her NT during Euro 2017). I hope I'll be able to post highlights later.
Tomorrow's games: Nadeshiko League Beleza vs Mynavi 13:00 Nittaidai vs Nojima 13:00 Cerezo vs Jef 15:00 Nadeshiko League 2 Nippatsu vs Ehime 13:00 Bunnys vs Harima 14:00 Challenge League West Konomiya vs JFA 12:00 Nagoya vs Cerezo Girls 15:00
Kumagai had excellent first half of the match - she worked hard in destruction and interrupted many of opponent actions, on top of that 2 or 3 of her opening passes turned into most dangerous Lyon attacking actions in 1st half. I'd risk to say that If Pajor had been assisted by Kumagai instead of Blasse, Wolfsburg could've been up in first half. In 2nd half she played in much deeper role, rarely crossing the half. After Harder's goal it was obvious that Pedros will need to change DM for AM to chase the goal thus her sub for vd Sanden 3rd UEFA CL Cup won...WWC winner and runner-up, Olympic medalist...imho she's not only best Japanese player in this decade but one of world top 3 players as well. Congratulations Saki Kumagai. Third straight @UWCL title with @OL ! 👏 pic.twitter.com/U1lahSHcjA— AFC (@theafcdotcom) May 25, 2018
And don't forget that, since about a month, she's also Asian Champion. She had missed that title the other time around, when OL hadn't released her in 2014.
At the moment, I only found these highlights; they aren't very long and the spelling of French names by the German commentator is atrociuos , but they anyway have all of the key-moments: the goal denied to OL in 2nd half of regular time, the second YC to Popp leading to RC (it could have been direct Red as well, in my opinion: useless, brutal sliding-tackle aimed to the ankles, with the ball already miles away ) and all of the five goals. You can also see part of the celebration, with Saki getting to look silly while trying to catch the confetti. I hope the video is not geo-blocked, but since it is not in Italy, I assume it should be visible for all of you too.
