It's not about the money, it's that it's not the right move for the team. Zlatan doesn't play a position of need and will only be a short-term contributor -- and yet, not one that will have a "Lodeiro"-like effect on our squad. I rate Zlatan and he does more than score goals, but right now we don't have an elite midfield or an elite playmaker by MLS standards. We've had those things going into the MLS Cups that we've won. AND it's about the money. You can buy a loooooooot of stuff for that money and it feels like we cut a lot of assets in other areas (i.e. coaching all the way down the line) to free up funds for this move. Seems we are doubling-down on being short-sighted.
We have dos Santos, Jones and Lletget who are all NT players that play in advanced/creative roles for their countries and should definitely be capable of "elite MLS level" playmaking. We REALLY need to get more contributions out of all of them.
Agreed and I would add Zardes to that list too. If we are going with youth more responsibility and pressure falls to them. They need to deliver.
So you're questioning the tactics employed by the coaching staff and underlining that this is exactly the same failings we saw from Los Dos the last couple years. Hmmm, wonder if anyone "important" is noticing this...
Yes, watched plenty of G2 games and the senior team seems to be playing like their junior counterparts. The constant is Onalfo. Not sure if the players can't play a more progressive brand of football or if it's the coach's purposeful deployment of bootball. I'm sure it's the latter.
What's interesting is Curt and some of the players have said that they want to play/play attacking soccer and move the ball around
Muñoz even said in his start of season interview that Los Dos would be playing more vertically than he really likes.
Lleget out 4-6 months. http://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2017/03/28/la-galaxy-midfielder-sebastian-lletget-undergo-foot-surgery What a bummer.
I hate losing Seb and feel bad for him. I also hate that this might give Curt an "injury excuse" lifeline.
I dont think they should. The organization has told us that Curt and the G2 players are ready. Well now is the time to show that
So I guess Ema is a starter now. Who will see more minutes? Mendiola in theory but he hasn't made an appearance yet right? The Villareal brothers? Now or never for those three. Not terribly confident here.
It would not surprise me to see the Galaxy play Zardes at right mid, Ema at left mid and with McBean and Gio up front. This would also be putting Gyasi at his USMNT position.
It's still valid if we decide not to start Ema or Zardes for "impact sub" purposes. I think McBean has a lot to do to earn the right to start over either of these guys, however.
http://www.espnfc.us/story/3093036/...d-recruits-join-la-galaxy-if-you-want-beaches Jose Mourinho to Man U recruits: "If a player wants to move to London, enjoy London -- we don't want you,'' Mourinho said. "If the first thing you think is where you're going to live, well, think Los Angeles. "Galaxy would be the first choice and then Vitoria Setubal, go to the beach every day. There are beautiful places to live and to play." Thanks for the compliment, Mo! Is he mad that Zlatan is leaving them for us???
I argued in preseason that our lack of proven, consistent goal scorer was going to be a problem this season. So how are we doing offensively after 2 home games and 2 road games vs winless bottom feeders? We are averaging 1.25 g/gm, which puts us in a 3-way tie with Chicago and Montreal for 12th-14th place overall. That wouldn't be that bad except it flatters us since it includes no road games against good teams. But it's been shown repeatedly that over a small sample the # of goals scored includes a big luck factor and future offensive output is better predicted by shots on goal. So how are we doing on that metric? Here are the teams ranked from top to bottom on shots on goal per game: Code: Rank Club SOG/Gm 1 Houston Dynamo 6.3 2 Portland Timbers 5.8 3 Atlanta United 5.3 4 Columbus Crew SC 5.2 5 Minnesota United 5.0 6 San Jose Earthquakes 4.8 7 New York City FC 4.8 8 Philadelphia Union 4.8 9 Sporting Kansas City 4.0 10 New York Red Bulls 4.0 11 D.C. United 4.0 12 New England Revolution 4.0 13 Chicago Fire 3.8 14 Orlando City SC 3.7 15 Seattle Sounders FC 3.5 16 Vancouver Whitecaps FC 3.5 17 Montreal Impact 3.5 18 Real Salt Lake 3.4 19 FC Dallas 3.3 20 Toronto FC 2.8 21 LA Galaxy 2.5 22 Colorado Rapids 2.0 You know what this proves? That Colorado is in big trouble!
