Our sophomore season kicks off tomorrow. Hard to really know what to expect. We really only played scrubs in preseason, and there is a lot of new players without MLS experience. But it is the Fire. I get the feeling that us losing 3-0 is just as likely as us winning 3-0.
Pretty weak 11 on paper. Really wonder how much Reyna has actually improved the team in the offseason
Still have to give him props for the finish though. Although yeah Chicago did their best keystone cops impersonation on that one.
I thought the team played well over all, I'd rather see Mullins or Poku over Khiry but Shelton had a solid game and I thought the midfield did well except for Pirlo who was awful and honestly if I had my way wouldn't be on the field in this formation the defense will get better I think once they have time to gel.
I like Hernandez but he needs to pick it up this season or its his last. Luckily I think White would be a good replacement when Iraola or RJ get healthy. The other option is Mena who is at least faster and has better physical tools but prone to mental mistakes.
Pirlo needs to sit, I'm hoping Italy takes him for veteran leadership and that gets him out of our hair for a bit.
I'm hoping we don't see Hernandez or White again this season. I think we will see Bravo at CB sooner rather than later, and hopefully Iraola is better than last season. Brilliant was pretty terrible as well but it's his first game in a new league, so I can't be too hard on him.
I kinda like White at the back, but he's no more then depth in my opinion. We should aim for a DP level CB when Pirlo is gone, and someone under 30 please.
here at HotFooty we're saying a prayer for Brillant this sunday. Guy needs a good game or i think he might just go back to Belgium on Monday.
Switching to a back three for this game. Worried about the lack of defensive width, but interested to see how this does.
Villa with a brace in the first 25 minutes. NYC's movement going forward is already infinity better than last season.
Except giving up the late goal NYCFC is doing OK so far . Pirlo is not bad today , the French guy is taking too much time with the ball , the field doesn't look that bad it looks a bit less congested compare to last yr.
Attendance was over 30k tonight. Pretty darn good for a sophomore year coming off a terrible season. Tough to drop two points like that, but I am not too upset. I think the back three is the right formation going forward. It gives players like Mix and Pirlo so much more freedom compared to a back four. Which is likely why Pirlo looked like a completely different player compared to when Kreis was the coach. Also really hope to see Mendoza in the starting 11 soon over Khiry or Taylor. He already looks like a very nice pick up.
Thought attendance was awesome, wish we could have taken all the points but I'm fine with the tie. Thought Khiry had an off game and was impressed with Mendoza who I would start over Shelton the next game. Tony Taylor I like and should stay in the line up. Brillant was solid the first half and shaky the second half hopefully he settles down as the season progresses. All in all the team is improved over last years and hopefully as the season progresses they get better.
I really hope someone makes a clip of De Blasio getting booed by the entire stadium That was even better than the game itself
