Sawa-sama is now on TV for the guest for CWC final.
Full results later on
You're really great!
I'm okay with that. No need for a 2nd round of voting in my opinion.
Extended replays were great.
Excellent video, Lechus!
You get no complaints from me. All 10 excellent selections and order!
Those WWC goals in particular were so very important to advance to the next round and Ogimi's against USA was good for pride.
Already looking forward to 2016 GOTY.
Well, the only reason for a second round could be if it could generate any interest from international posters outside this thread. But anyway, I don't think results could change much: probably Sakaguchi's goal vs Netherlands would win hands down anyway. After all, we all recognized greatness just after we watched that action at WWC and that goal was inserted by FIFA in the shortlist for Goal of the Tournament. I am curious to know details, but I suppose that goal won by a quite large margin (it was anyway 1st in my chart, no doubt).
Not only I think that the winner wouldn't change, but I guess that a second round of votes wouldn't change anything else in a radical way: some goals could just switch around some positions, but basically the rankings are very sound and, though they differ a little from mine, I can totally sympathize with these choices. I was in doubt for some positions myself, and I don't mind seeing them changed around.
By the way, I could bet that this year the very selection of the ten goals was quite similar among all of the voters, and, given the low total amount of goals (including PKs and own goals), it wasn't too much difficult to imagine that. 90% of the selected goals were the same that I chose (only difference: I preferred Kawasumi's goal vs France at Algarve to Sugasawa's header vs Cameroun at WWC, since in my opinion Yuika was left too much free to jump and score undisturbed, although I had noticed the athleticism and accuracy of that header and that goal was put in my "honorable mentions").
The other goals in my selection were the same, although the order was a little different (in particular, I liked better Ogimi's goal vs Italy than the one at WWC and they were switched in my order: they were both nice, though, and I can see the argument that the one in a WWC final, although lost, was more important that the winner in a friendly match).
All in all a very good selection, a very good video and a very good performance from our friend Lechus7, who made Nadeshiko Thread's GOTY a success once again!
We'll see in the next days if everyone's agree about the decision to avoid a 2nd round. In that case, I will be curious to see the full results.
Tomorrow's games again:
Empress's Cup semifinal
Vegalta vs Inac 11:00
Beleza vs Albi 14:00
GOTY list made me a good memory for 2015.These goals brought me back to those days and nights for Nadeshiko's matches.
It's a bit surprising for me that #17 were out of Top10.These two are really crutial.I remembered I was fairly nerverous and trembled with (VS England) from start till end.
Hope Inac & Beleza could meet in finals.Beleza is a "big opponent", suiting for Sawa's retirement ceremony. If these two teams could qualify as expected, finals should be exciting and magnificent
It's not easy for Inac to conquer Vegalta&Beleza in a very short period.I once watched a NadeshikoLeague(Inac VS Beleza),Inac is a weaker side obviously.Kyokawa's absence means a lot to Inac.
I guess Lechus7 (and others) made it quite clear in previous years' GOTY installments that everyone is free to choose whatever standard they want to select goals for Goal of the Year: you can choose the most important ones, that were key for the whole season; or those who have a more emotional charge involved; or those that were meaningful because of a particular "story" (first goal in Senior National Team for Yokoyama, and it's a screamer; foul on Ando and Miyama's PK, and here is the moment when the Andobear sub-plot starts; etc...).
But (although I could be wrong) I guess the more popular parameter to choose goals from people on this thread is an aesthetic one: people tend to chose "the more beautiful goal" (once again, this could mean different things for different people: an elegant and technical team effort? An accurate and powerful middle-range shot? A swift and savvy counter-attack? An acrobatic proof of athelticism?). Whatever this aesthatic parameter can mean for different people here, I guess few consider a PK or an own-goal an especially "beautiful" goal and I guess that's the reason why the semi-final goals got so few votes (I could go as far as to imagine that, since And G voted Laura Bassett's as his best goal for 2015, there was also a little bit of an ironic intention in it and that he wanted to underline that Bassett's was the kind of "beautiful" shot that he wished and he would have expected from a Japan's FW; but I don't like backward reasoning, so I am going to suppose that he simply chose that goal because it was someway the most important one of the season and because it was a so incredible ending for a very thrilling WWC semi-final).
For my part, I don't always have an aesthatic reason to chose goals: I like to mix it up with other parameters, but I will admit that, anyway, aestathic is quite prevalent for me; I seldom chose a random scramble in the box or an own-goal, no matter how important or thrilling that goal was.
Due to a miscommunication from both of us, #5nadeshikofan ranking points on GOTY table are in fact different from actuals. With #5nadeshikofan's help and some small sacrifice, situation is now resolved and ranking stands unchanged.
Blissett, I think you are "Chomping at the bit", to give comments to the top 10 GOTY. I know I would like your commentary, so go for it!!
Based on the last 3 voting sessions, I would say the preference is for goals from outside the area (Uetsugi, Nagasato, Sakaguchi). But please, more commentary!!
My criteria for this selection are quite simple; beautiful or unpredictable.
For example, since ordinary Japanese players can't score in those kinds of situations like Yokoyama or Sugita's ones, I didn't expect their goals at all then.
I like goals out of a well organized game situation with everyone where they are supposed to be, like the Sameshima goals last year vs. Canada and here goal vs Cameroon this year. Chance shots look nice and fullfill the purpose, but proving that players act like a team is more what I like to see.
DF Kinga Kai Tanaka Sameshima
MF Kawasumi Ito Miki Sawa Nakajima
FW Ohno Takase
DF Sakai Yamamoto Chiba Ideue
MF Kakazu Tahara Kawamura Nakano
FW Inoue Arimachi
Kaihori super saved Kawamura's great shot ('35).
Ohno scored with heading from CK ('39)!
At half time:
Vegalta 0-1 Inac
679493808371974145 is not a valid tweet id
Nakajima scored ('61).
Vegalta 0-2 Inac (Ohno, Nakajima)
The old strong Inac has returned in a sense. Every player except Takase seems to keep good conditions and of course they had strong concentration through the whole game maybe in the name of in behalf of Sawa.
My POM is Kawasumi.
Deserved win for INAC, they were all excellent today. All they have to do now is deliver a similar performance in the final.
DF Shimizu Iwashimizu Muramatsu Ariyoshi
MF Uetsuji Sakaguchi Hara Nakasato
FW Tananmina Momiki
DF Sayama Kitahara Nakamura Kojima
MF Saeki Sakaguchi Yamada Kamionobe
FW Ohishi Yamazaki
