They say Nakazawa told to JFA that he want to retire from NT. He is still 28 year old. It is unexpected.

Lineup for the U-21 training camp was released today. 18 of them will be selected to play against China U-21 NT on 8/7 in China. This is seen as a warm up for Olympic qualifying which starts at the end of the year.

Yanagisawa and Takahara don't need to retire. I doubt they'd be on Osim's list anway!

Takahara will get more first team experience at Frankfurt. If he lives up to the "Sushi Bomber" nickname, he should be on the list.

From recent run of form, I think Tatsuya Tanaka and Seiichiro Maki are gonna be on the team. I'd be shocked if they weren't. And I think Osim is gonna use 3-5-2. He usually goes with 5 or even 6 MFs and puts 3 on the back line when he was at JEF, and MFs are definitely Japan's biggest strength, so I would think he would do that on the NT, and I don't think you could put only 1 FW on top for Japan, so I'm looking for 3-5-2.

Isn't time for Osim to anounce the Asian Cup qualifier squad now?

WTF?! They were gonna announce the team today, but now it will be on the 4th. The game with Trinidad is on the 9th! Damn, talk about leaving it late! It better have a lot of chances from WC 2006 if they're making us wait this long. In fact, it better be f'n revolutionary.

he already said it wasn't going to change much.
what are you making such a big deal about? be patient.

I would say you can expect some new guys, since none of the overseas players, Gamba, or JEF players will be in it. That is why he is having so much trouble. It could be a completely different team than the one that players against Yemen.

Re: 2006 Official Japanese NT Thread [R]

At long last, the first players of the Osim era, who will play T&T next week:

    GK Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi (Jubilo Iwata)
    GK Norihito Yamagishi (Urawa Reds)*

    DF Alessandro Santos (Urawa Reds)
    DF Keisuke Tsuboi (Urawa Reds)
DF Marcus Tulio Tanaka (Urawa Reds)*
    DF Yuichi Komano (Hiroshima Sanfrecce)

MF Hayuma Tanaka (Yokohama F Marinos)*
    MF Yasuyuki Konno (FC Tokyo)
    MF Daigo Kobayashi (Omiya Ardijya)*
    MF Makoto Hasebe (Urawa Reds)

    FW Kazuki Ganaha (Kawasaki Frontale)*
    FW Hisato Sato (Hiroshima Sanfrecce)
    FW Tatsuya Tanaka (Urawa Reds)

He said this was his "core" of players that will probably play in the Asian Cup qualifiers as well. Gamba Osaka and JEF United players were not chosen because of the A3 tournament going on. Expect 7 more to be on that team (probably with some JEF and Gamba players).

    * players are ones that are getting their first caps. Except for Kawaguchi, Tsuboi, and Santos, no one has more than 9 caps (Komano).

BTW, if the Zico era was Iwata-centric, man, what's with the Reds and Osim? 6 Reds on the team! My initial impressions are 1) back line is basically Urawa Reds. 2) Not really familiar with many of the names in the MF. This will be a true test to see just how deep Japan is at MF. 3) Finally! a new front line! Ganaha and Sato deserve their spots for their scoring this season, and Tanaka looks like he hasn't been out with an injury for a year. No complaints here. 4) It's pretty much major house cleaning from WC 06. Only 3 starters left from that team and 4 total.

Against Yemen, several players will be added from Gamba and JEF(and maybe Kashima) for sure, but against T&T I am not sure.
    Ono is out for sure!

Re: 2006 Official Japanese NT Thread [R]

I think only players from Gamba,JEF (and maybe Kahima) will be added to the list against Yemen because they are currently playing A3(and Shanhai international), so Osim did not initially select them. But Ono is Urawa player, so I think he will not be added.

    Jungo Fujimoto would be cool

The squad's official. It's on every Japanese news site, including the link I posted. The Asia Cup team will have a few more, but not much more, about 7.
